We have 2 dogs that travel with us and they LOVE the beach. This house was built by my wife's father and it has a lot of sentimental value.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1965
The new Oak Island bridge is close to this house, so Wilmington is only 30 minutes away and North Myrtle Beach is only a 45 minute drive.
Southport is only 10 minutes away and Bald Head Island is only a Ferry ride away. Both places are fun & unique !
Karen K has so much potential. It is in a great location but needs lots of work. The house was clean but there were lots of repairs needed. Broken lamps, stained curtains, splitting paneling, and loose boards on the stairs and balcony. Furnishings except for electronics and the bathroom appear to have come from the 1970's. The bathroom door got stuck and we had to call the maintance out to replace the lock and rescue someone from the bathroom. They came promptly but still for the amount of money you pay this should have never happened. All in all, the location and view were great but it needs some work and updates.
We really enjoyed our stay at "Karen K"! It is right across from the beach and you can see the ocean from the front porch! It is great that they let people bring their furry friend with them. You can always improve at something. They could use some updates to the house. There were only four of us so it was perfect! Eight people can sleep but there is only one bathroom. On the plus there is a shower on the bottom to use when you get off the beach. Did not give five stars because of needing the updates and remodel. But still was really good for us!
We really, really enjoyed our stay in this Beach Cottage. The home was clean, convenient to everything the island has to offer - plus easily accessible to other areas (Wilmington, Southport, etc.). We have a small dog and she loved the porch to watch all the action at the beach access just across our yard. The home has everything needed if you want to cook - which we did several times during our two-week stay. It is a wonderfully kept beach cottage that has been updated where needed without losing the integrity of an orginal beach home. The store across the road is convenient and the Elks lodge behind the house had the best Fried Chicken on Sunday afternoon which we ordered "to go" and ate on our front deck. This is a great location if you like a central location to the pier, the point and the town. The owner is great to work with and made planning our time very easy.
Can't wait to make plans for our next stay at Karen K!

We had a great vacation at Oak Island. This beach cottage is located in the perfect spot. We could sit
on the front porch in the afternoons, with our cocktails, and just admire the great view. The beach access is directly in front of the house & we could be on the beach in 1 minute. The house is pet friendly and our lab had a great time on the beach. Oak Island is a residential type of beach, so there are no hotels, only cottages. If you want good seafood, there are plenty of restaurants within a few miles. There is one seafood restaurant located at the pier, which is about a mile away, so you could walk to it. I would definitely recommend this house & you cannot go wrong with Oak Island!
Our family just got back from spending a great weekend at Oak Island...The house is located in a great area...very close to the beach and getting to wake up and walk out on the porch to a beautiful ocean view was awesome....the house is a traditional beach cottage...had all the comforts of home and everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable....the best part of all was that our little doggie got to go with us and play on the beach...I would deff. recommend this house to others and would deff. stay here again...Thanks so much for sharing your little slice of heaven with us...
We came down to Oak Island and planned to stay at Karen K. We arrived and the property was dirty, dog hair on every surface, paint chipping and peeling off exterior windows and doors, and the yard was littered with trash and cigarette butts, and there was a serious ant problem inside and outside the house. Pickets were missing from the front porch railing. The house also sits on one of the busiest corners of Oak Island, with continuous traffic throughout the day and night. We had small children with us, and the corner was frighteningly busy. In fact a moped and a car collided at that corner the week we were to stay there. Also, there is a very busy convenience store directly behind the house. I am sure this rental suits many types of people, but if you have small children, this may not be the one for you.
