About Mike and Maggie Van Dame

We are newly retired and live in Northern California. We grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and Ontario, Ca.

Mike and Maggie Van Dame purchased this house in 2013

Why Mike and Maggie Van Dame chose Paso Robles

This property is a classic a Paso Robles charmer and has located us closer to our daughter and son-in-law who live in Paso Robles and to our family in the southern half of the state. This is the perfect house for all of us to get together at various times during the year. Our family loves wine and for years we have made wine tasting a family tradition. We have visited all California wine tasting areas and love the central coast area the best.

What makes this house unique

This property caught our eye the minute we saw its sunny exterior. The large covered front porch is a perfect spot to sit and relax in the afternoon. We enjoy watching the deer walk by (please do not approach the deer or feed them). This home makes you feel you are in a rural area when you are in walking distance to downtown.

There are several outdoor entertainment areas and patios. The backyard is completely fenced for privacy.

The inside of the home has a unique layout as there is a bedroom and bathroom at each side of the house separated by the living room. And of course the picture window in the living room showers the inside with light.

This home is a classic. We love it.

Lovely House

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed staying here in this Paso Robles home. It was perfect for two couples, as it has divided bedrooms with private baths and queen size comfy beds. The house was clean and comfortable and perfect for our wine touring, restaurants, shopping, and close to down town at the square. We had a nice bottle of wine when we checked in and enjoyed sitting out on the patio relaxing while enjoying our wine. The kitchen is equipped with all your kitchen needs in addition to spices, sugars, coffee, etc. We would definitely recommended staying here for your Paso Robles stay. Thank you Maggie for sharing your wonderful home.

Fun Weekend at Casa Del Sole

  • of 5

We met several family members in Paso Robles for the weekend. Five of us were at the house and the others in hotels. Everyone met at the house for dinner and breakfast. The table has a leaf and extra chairs are provided on the hall closet. The kitchen is perfect. All the spices were right there in the cupboard! The house was so clean. Beds comfy with nice linens. Although it was a bit cool we spent the afternoon on the patio. Which is large and private. Later at dinner we were toasty in the house. So comfortable and quaint with tasteful decor. This was the perfect location and we will be back.

Charming home!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed in many rental homes from VRBO and Home Away and this by far was one of the best. Looks just as it does in the photos! The home is spacious, comfortable and is fabulous for two couples as the bedrooms/baths are on separate sides of the house so you get your privacy. The kitchen is very large and well laid out and stocked with pretty much anything needed to cook. Only negative about the kitchen is that the coffee maker should really be replaced. It took at least 1/2 hour to brew a 10 cup pot. It was PAINFULLY slow! We didn't have much of an opportunity to take advantage of the patio as we were out and about during the day and it was too chilly to utilize in the evening during our visit, but it was very large and private. Overall a fantastic base camp for a visit to Paso Robles as it is located so close to not only wineries, but to the downtown area. We highly recommend this home and look forward to a return visit for a longer stay. Thank you Mike and Maggie for opening your home to us.

Beautiful, Bright, Clean Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We really loved this cottage - immaculate rental! Description was exactly what we got. There were four of us (two couples) that rented the cottage for a weekend of wine tasting. Located in Paso, a nice walk to the downtown core where there was plenty of choices for dining. In the cottage we each had our own bedroom as well as full bathrooms. Always a plus when there is a group of four or more. It was bright, clean, well equipped, plenty of info on wineries and what to do. The heating worked really well, best left at 68 degrees as once the house heated up one of the bedrooms got quite hot. It rained the whole weekend we were there, which was quite refreshing and the reason for the heat turned on. Maggie, the owner was very quick to respond to any questions I had while making the arrangements to book the cottage and even after. We plan on coming back again and hope that the cottage is available. A great stay. My only complaint... the coffee maker took far too long to brew. At the end of the stay we found another one that we wished we would have used instead. Thanks Maggie and Mike for opening up your place to strangers.

Perfect location, perfect hospitality!

  • 5 of 5

My two sisters and I stayed at this lovely house for a week. The host and hostess thought of everything that would make our stay comfortable, including ample towels and linens, lovely soap and lotions, and even a bottle of wine to enjoy on our arrival. The location was terrific, being within an hours drive of wineries, three California missions, Highway 1 coastal towns, Pinnacles National Park (awesome!), and Hearst Castle. Paso Terra and Artisan in town were great places for dinner, and the Amsterdam Coffee House was a wonderful way to start the day. Thanks for your thoughtfulness in providing all the amenities to make this our perfect reunion spot!

Cozy place and convenient location

  • 5 of 5

We had a really fun week of wine tasting in the Paso Robles area, and also did a Friday evening tour of Hearst Castle, and daytime jaunts to several nearby towns. The house has everything you need - we cooked several meals there, and it's a perfect setup for two couples. We liked being able to walk to downtown Paso Robles, and we did some bike riding in the hills by the house. The owners clearly care about providing you with all you need to have a good experience. We would definitely stay here again.

Wine tasting is a favorite pass-time of our family and we never tire of the selection of wineries in the Paso Robles area. We are located on Pacific Ave at the gateway to Peachy Canyon Rd just a short drive to the west side wineries. There are a many other wineries in the Paso Robles area, each offering its own unique wines and amenities.

The California Mid-State Fair is a huge attraction in Paso Robles. The fair dates for next year are July 14 through July 27, 2014. There are plenty of great events and music for all to enjoy. You can take the shuttle to the fair which is in walking distance of Casa Del Sole.

We enjoy Friday night concert in the park downtown while sitting on the grass (bring a blanket). Wine and beer is available for purchase. And if you prefer grab a table at one of the great restaurants with outdoor seating and delight in the perfect meal while listening to music..

We love the outdoors and would like to encourage you to visit Montana De Oro State Park and the state parks of the San Luis Obispo coast. You will find Hearst Castle and many other amazing parks and attractions in this area.

There is so much to enjoy in this area and we will be adding more favorite places in the future.
