Palisade Tree House is a brand new custom-built log cabin that nests 3 blocks(5 mins walks) from Serene Lake. The cabin has an open floor plan with many unique handcrafted details that echo Asian philosophy and sensibilities. The use of local resources and green building techniques are evident throughout the 2200 square-foot living space.
The cabin’s main floor has a large open 2-story-high living room, dining room, and kitchen area (with a BBQ on the front deck), as well a guest bedroom and guest bathroom. The spacious master bedroom, also on this floor, features a master bathroom with walk-in shower and soaking tub/Jacuzzi, along with a private deck. The upper level has two bedrooms, a sunny bathroom with walk-in shower, and an open loft (favorite hangout for kids) which looks over the main floor.
All together, the cabin has 4 queen beds and 2 twin beds.
Serene Lakes is a hidden gem just a few minutes from many amenities. In the winter, there are 5 ski resorts nearby (Royal Gorge’s extensive, well-groomed cross-country ski trails are in walking distance and Soda Springs, ( 4.7 miles or 10 mins drive)Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, and Boreal are just minutes away).
You can also snowshoe, sled, or snow tube right in the area. There is an empty lot next to us and a closed street . a favorite place for the kids to play and tried out our different collection of sleds and snow toys.
In the summer and fall, Serene offers many family activities such as kayaking, canoeing, sailing, fishing, or just taking a dip in the lake. We have a four-person canoe parked at the beach. There are many nearby bike and wilderness trails that lead to beautiful, pristine areas. Most nights you can gaze at the Milky Way right from the front deck.
No smoking. No pets. No wild parties. Palisade Tree House is a great place for family and friends to gather for outdoor adventures or to just kick back and relax. Something for everybody!

This is a really lovely, comfortable cabin! It stayed warm and cozy for such a spacious place, beds were comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped. Communication with the owner was seamless. We came for the cross country skiing which normally is fabulous in this area but because of the poor snow conditions we walked and went snow shoeing instead. I look forward to trying again next year and this cabin would be our first choice place to stay- it was one of the nicest vacation rentals we've stayed in!
My family and I had the privilege of staying iat the Palisade Treehouse. The home was spacious, comfortable, well kept, exactly as portrayed in the photos. We had everything we needed and more. The owner was excellent, responsive, helpful in every way. We had a relaxing time with so many options of activities all around us. We will definitely go back again. Thank you!
We booked the cabin for Labor Day weekend & had a wonderful stay! The cabin is bigger than I expected and has a open floor plan that allows for maximum comfort & socializing! The kitchen is fully stocked with whatever you may need (dishes/cooking supplies, spices, coffee, condiments, etc), the dining room table is huge (there were 8 of us & we still had more elbow room then we needed) and the great room was cozy & nicely decorated with a pellet stove that kept it toasty warm.
We had 3 families stay here & never felt cramped. My parents stayed in the Master, my husband/I and our baby stayed in the room next to the Master (2nd floor) and my sister's family (2 adults & a 5 yr old) got the 3rd floor all to themselves! Word of advice, in retrospect I would have had my sister's family with the 5 yr old stay on 2nd floor & us on the 3rd because you can really hear all the movement at nighttime and our baby got woken up several times to the sound of my niece running around & talking.
We came to the house directly from camping so it was nice to do some laundry (detergent included) upon arrival. I was impressed how organized the cabin is and everything is well labeled as well labeled and a binder is provided with all sorts of info as well (directions for thermostat, washer/dryer, pellet stove, etc).
The owner Tom was super easy to work with; we communicated via phone & email. He was quick to respond & provided the contracts & keys promptly. We also had a last minute change of plans and needed to add another day. He quickly made a new contract & we were able to come a day early without any issue.
We LOVED spending time out on the deck and enjoyed BBQing as well. You can walk to the water but the swimming beach is about a 15-20 min walk, so if you have a lot of "gear" I'd recommend driving. It's less than a 5 min drive. There is a canoe that comes with the cabin, so we didn't have to rent anything either.
All and all, I'd recommend this cabin to anyone who will have multiple families and/or young kids.
We just had a fantastic 7 days at the house. Everything worked, it was clean and organized. No issues with anything. Instructions were clear and hassle-free. Owner always communicated quickly.
Beautiful open spaces that made it delightful.
We had a family reunion with 10 of us in the house very comfortably. There were 5 adults and 5 children that were 5,4,3, 2 and 6 months. And there were 10 other adults in two other houses in Soda Springs. We alternated dinners and had 20 people several times for dinner. We used the lovely deck for the children and some adults as well as the large table and didn't feel over crowded.
Appreciated the land line for local calls (I had a phone card for long distance calls) as I had zero cell service through Verizon the whole time.
Loved to location - biked, kayaked, canoed, and hiked while we were there.
The kitchen was so organized and equipped. I've rented VRBO homes before, but this was amazing.
Three great, thoughtfully arranged bathrooms that were beautiful.
And there were many extras - media to watch, games to play, fun canoe available at Serene Lake, nice WiFi and also a washing machine and dryer.
We all loved it and the house was a blessing to us!
We stayed at the Palisade Tree House with a group of friends in early February. It was perfect - a beautiful, well-kept house, just minutes on foot to Royal Gorge x-country and Soda Springs downhill resorts by foot.
The kitchen was especially well-stocked, great for anyone who loves to cook. I didn't even have to break out the knives and tools I'd brought from home! The kids had a blast sledding in the adjacent lot, and the adults made use of the shovels and snowshoes provided.
We'll definitely be back next winter, and hope to try the house out in the summer as well.
Property was clean and well-maintained with spacious accommodations. We brought our own kayaks and used the available canoe at the lovely lake, enjoyed daily bike rides, barbecuing and the kids loved swimming. Took a trip to nearby Tahoe City to do repelling and ziplining at the new Tree Top Adventures at Granlibakken. It was fabulous! The owner was wonderful, answering all questions and providing many homelike features in this retreat, including a jet-spa tub. So relaxing!
