Enjoy Beech Mountain from 4700 feet at Blueberry Hill. Nature all around at the end of a mountain road allows for peace, serenity and a 40 mile view into Virginia and Tennessee from the wrap around deck. Take long walks, climb Grandfather Mountain, ride on the Tweetsie railroad or hike in the woods. Shop and dine in Banner Elk at the foot of the mountain,or have lunch at Fred's General Store down the road at the top of the mountain. Bring your mountain bikes and hiking shoes. Watch the sun set with a full view 40 miles around. In the morning, wake up to birds and the clouds beneath you in the valleys and the crystal blue skies all around.
Keywords: Mountain top views, above the heat and humidity, wrap around deck, game room, family room full kitchen. Fire place for summer evening fires, really!
We have owned 5 homes on Beech Mountain over the years and finally built our dream home in the perfect location at the end of a quiet road. Nature is everywhere and by August we are out picking wild blueberries in the fields around our house. With fishing, golf, tennis, mountain biking and hiking all around, how can you now enjoy yourself. We are older now so this is our first year offering our precious home for rent. We sure hope you fall in love with it like we have.
The Owner purchased this house in 1996
We built Blueberry Hill to escape the summer heat and humidity and to enjoy the spectacular views and fun activities found around Beech Mountain
We love to drive around the beautiful area and visit Mast General Store in Valle Cruces, or go to the craft festivals, or climb Grandfather Mountain or just sit quietly on the deck and watch the hummingbirds dive at feeders.
After a long drive from Florida and fog covering the mountain as we wove our way up to the house we were thrilled to see such a beautiful home, exactly as pictured, only better. It was the size of a house, yet the cozy family feel of a cottage. Everyone had space to move around and we thoroughly enjoyed the game room downstairs with a pool table, shuffle board, darts and even an old labyrinth. It was very clean and well maintained.
The kitchen was well appointed with just about anything you would need to cook and bake, including coffee makers, waffle makers, baking dishes, etc. I am only 5'2" so I found the counters a little high, as they are about 5 or 6 inches taller than normal counters, but it wasn't a problem.
The view was lovely, even in winter, as we were able to watch the fog roll around on the lower mountains and valleys, or sometimes totally encase us. We were fortunate enough to wake up one morning to a wonderful winter wonderland with fog/water having frozen all over every branch, it was beautiful.
We skied 3 days at Beech Mountain, and rented our gear from Beech Meadows, the owner was very helpful and the prices were good, they even sell lift tickets at a cheaper price. Our kids enjoyed sledding for free at the sledding hill beside town hall. The first few days were rainy, so we ventured over to the towns of Boone, and Valle Crucis and were told to stop by the General Mast stores, and the attached Candy Barrel. Definitely a fun store to visit, with a lot of history. We also visited the Linville Caverns, which were interesting for everyone. There are plenty of hiking trails all around this area that we would have liked to explore, but due to the rain we only did a short trail right near the house, then when the weather was cold enough we skied.
Overall a great Mountain retreat, we would recommend to anyone!
We used the house for Thanksgiving and would agree with Art’s review below. There is internet, however it is password protected which may has caused problems. There is also Direct TV in the home and a DVD player. The house pictures are 100% accurate. It is in a great neighborhood! If you are there for the Holidays, the house is next door to a Christmas tree farm. So bring your stand and decorations! The owners are extremely nice and very easy to work with.
We plan to rent again
We just returned with two families staying for a week in June. The house was much better than expected. It is very large for a three bedroom....really a four bedroom with the loft...there are 3 futons up there that can sleep 3 (but really only children, teenagers, or college age). Surprisingly, the loft has a full bathroom, which is very unusual. Each of the 3 other bedrooms has a full bath, plus a half bath on the main level.
The kitchen is very large and the best equipped of any house we have rented. The whole house has the feel of a private family home rather than a rental. The storage space is huge with a large foyer/mudroom and spacious laundry room. Downstairs is another large space with game room, 3rd bedroom, garage, and workshop.
The view is phenomenal....the most expansive I've seen renting several houses on Beech Mountain. Decks encircle all 4 sides of the house. Access is very easy with no entrance stairs to climb. It is at the end of a very quiet gravel road....almost no traffic to create dust.
I remind that there is no air conditioning, but it isn't needed at this elevation. There is no internet as well, which may be a concern for some.
Overall, I would highly recommend it....we had 6-8 people for a week and did not feel crowded at all. With the 4.5 bathrooms and the large size of the other rooms, it feels much larger than a 3 bedroom
My wife and myself plus another couple who are longtime friends spent a
enjoyable week at this attractive and well cared fof property. The vuews from their decks are outstanding.
This home is a dream come true! I have enjoyed coffee in the morning as the sun comes up, watching the clouds rising out of the Smokey Mountains, which are visible as far as the eye can see and a cocktail at night as the sun goes down. The birds dance around a bird feeder and the flowers are abundant in flower boxes. The constant breezes and lovely woodland aromas are all around you. This is an enchanted spot, immaculately clean, comfortably decorated, with every amenity for a wonderful vacation. The lower level has a wonderful game room , perfect for entertaining the young and old. I LOVE Fred's General Store which greets you as you reach the top of the mountain road. This place is an experience in itself. We shopped and lunched in quaint Blowing Rock, visited beautiful Grandfather Mountain with its wildlife in abundance and swinging bridge and most memorable, grilled the most beautiful and delicious yellow trout, which we bought from a trout farm near the base of the mountain. If you love solitude and want to experience God's wonders but want to be near shopping and interesting go-to places, this is the place for you! The hardest part of this place is having to leave!!
