Very relaxing beach cottage. Two bedrooms with queen beds and a living room couch that converts to a queen bed. One and one half baths. Very difficult to maintain stress here. Lovely beach location. Once you have stayed here, you will return.

Three generations of our family enjoy our time at Dillon Beach. We love the long walks on the beach. Surfing, skim boarding, walks on the beach, fishing, crabing and claming. It's all here.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2001
We have been coming to Dillon Beach for over thirty years. We always returned to vacation here. So we decided to buy the 'Sea Captain.' And, now it's a family treasure. We come much more often, and stay longer.
When we stay at the 'Sea Captain,' we walk all the way down the beach to Lawson's Landing and have coffee with some of the locals. Great exercise and fresh air. Staying in the 'village,' as the locals call it, is like a throwback to previous times. It's kind of like being removed from the rest of the world.
We were pleasantly surprised that this was nicer than the pictures show. It was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. The only PROBLEM was that the pull-out bed was AWFUL! The springs were poking up and there is a bar going across the bottom that hurts your back. This rental is misrepresented as sleeping 6...It actually sleeps 4 comfortably. A 5th person could sleep on the couch if they aren't too tall. We had to cram 3 people into one bed. Also, there was no dial tone on the land-line and only Verizon works out there, so be prepared. The ladies that handle the rental are kind and laid back, which I appreciated. Other than that, the view was nice and we had a relaxing weekend. We enjoyed walking down to the beach everyday!
We loved this vacation rental. It is very clean and well-furnished, and it is right in the heart of the village of Dillon Beach. It is very well suited to people with dogs since it has dog-friendly floors and furniture. The interior of the house has recently been re-painted; it’s quite lovely and has nice artwork on the walls. The kitchen had everything you need to make meals (great pots and pans, sharp knives, etc.). The kitchen table seats 4. The living room is equipped with a large, comfortable leather sofa (seating 3-4) and 2 wooden chairs (so, that room seats 5-6). The house has both a front and back deck. The front deck has a pretty good ocean view which is also visible in the house with its huge front windows. (Some homes in the village part of Dillon Beach don’t have a view at all, so we appreciated the view.) The back of the house has a much larger furnished deck with a fence that is about 3.5 feet tall. We had large dogs with us, so we kept them on leashes: they’d easily go over a short fence (one jumped it immediately). A very small (Chihuahua-sized) dog could escape through the gated picket-fence area. However, for us, it was just fine with the leashes. The two other DB homes we’ve rented didn’t have a back yard at all, so we were genuinely happy to have the space and privacy. It is a plus and one more thing we liked about the house.
Since the house is in the village, it is a very short walk to the beach (unlike homes way up on the hill, which generally require a car drive down plus an $8 gate fee to get on the beach). The house is a short walk from the convenience store and a cafe, too. Having stayed at Dillon Beach for the past 4 Thanksgivings (and having camped at Lawson's for many decades before that), I would definitely recommend homes in the village for convenience.
For those who haven't been to Dillon Beach, it is a wonderful destination. Well-behaved dogs can go off-leash at the beach. If you stay at this or any house in the village, you can pop over to the beach several times a day. We like to walk through the beach to the marina and walk back through the campground.
We rent homes quite often and would definitely recommend this home to small parties (2 couples or a family of 5). Again, it is well-suited for people with dogs/kids, and that made it a great fit for us – and it will again in 2015. Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us.
This was the perfect spot for some of my coworkers and myself to escape for some much needed r&r. The house was just as pictured upon arrival. The first thing we all agreed on was that we are definitely going to make this a yearly trip that we take and that we will definitely be choosing this lovely home again as long as our group doesn't end up getting any bigger. The views of the ocean were breathtaking and serene and we even saw 4 deer trotting down the street. The home was fully stocked with amenities and we couldn't have asked for a better, more relaxing place.
This was also the first time that I had ever booked a rental home for a trip and the property manager Carolyn made it a breeze and such a pleasant experience. I highly recommend this home for a peaceful get away.
Our first impression upon entering The Sea Captain was how clean it was. My wife and I had pre-planned who would clean the bathrooms, kitchen, etc., but surprised to find it was ready for relaxing. All the usual kitchenware, and bathroom supplies were readily available. Yes! Even a hair dryer. There is also a TV with a few channels, a small collection of DVDs, and a few board games/puzzles that were available for play. The beds and sofa were comfy, but majority of our indoor time was spent at the large kitchen table.
The front deck was a spacious spot for our little ones to enjoy lunch and the fresh sea air. Our daughter was so excited to find a collection of beach buckets that she told us not to unpack the ones she brought along. The rear deck was large and fairly private. We worried where our dog would fit in, but the back was plenty for her. There is also a bathroom between the kitchen and the rear deck where she was able to sleep at night.
We only had two problems during our stay. First, upon pulling into the driveway, you'll find a strip of sandy dirt on the passenger side that dogs apparently use for their business. We weren't sure if this was a neighborhood dog or the previous vacationer, but there was quite a few piles and not a lot of space for loading/unloading.
The other issue was the heater did not work while there. This was forgotten about until needed at night, but found it was too late to call for maintenance. Fortunately, we had taken extra blankets, so it was not much of a factor.
Vacationing with little ones is a lot of work for mom and dad, but with its proximity to the beach, The Sea Captain gave us an opportunity to do more than we'd be able to during one of our usual day trips to Dillon Beach. We would happily stay at The Sea Captain on future visits and highly recommend to others.
It was a small "OK" place compared to other Dillon Beach rentals.
We paid extra for linens so that we could just relax when we got there. We've stayed at many other great VRBOs that charge for linens - the beds are usually made up for the price you pay. After a long journey we arrived at this place to find a big plastic garbage bag of linens tossed on a bed and had to make all the beds. The "fenced in" back yard was ... not. The whole area is a deck that is partially fenced. I do not recommend this place to dog owners unless your dog is hairless, or you bring your own vacuum. We paid an ample cleaning fee with the rental. We spent more than an hour cleaning the small house and followed the cleaning instructions. I went through with their vacuum twice . The rugs are old and like velcro, and their vacuum did not not work well. Weeks later when I finally got my deposit check, they had deducted an additional fee for pet hair. I have been taking my dogs to VRBO rentals for 20 years and cleaning up after them. This has never happened to me before. This place really isn't worth the hassle. There are plenty of other nicer rentals with much better appreciation for their renters.
This cute little cottage is a great place for a getaway. Close enough to the beach to walk and hear the surf at night. It has a lovely view of Tomales point. The cottage and beach allows dogs so my small dog had a ball running and romping in the water. Has a TV but the ambience of the cottage makes you want to just read or play games. If you owe yourself a weekend (week) of R & R, this is the place to go.
