Away from the bustle of town in a small beachfront residential community. Surrounded by peace and tranquility. Original art, sculpture pieces, oriental carpets. Luxury touches at a very affordable price. Secure WiFi broadband internet connection throughout the house.

The best snorkeling in East Hawaii is just a few steps away at the Wai 'Opae Marine Sanctuary. Reefs break the waves beyond the tide pools so even small children can float in the calm waters and see the multitude of colorful tropic fish.

It is the perfect spot for a few days or a long term stay.

The house is up on stilts with all living areas on the second floor, accessible by stairs. You can relax outdoors on the lanai gathering area or sit in the living room and enjoy the fresh salt air through the two french doors that open the living room to the lanai. The private garden below has fragrant Plumeria, bananas and pineapple.

Both bedrooms also face the ocean. The master bedroom with a queen bed opens on to the enclosed end of the lanai and features an outdoor shower accessible from the lanai or from the bedroom. It also has a private bath with a classic claw-foot tub and laundry facilities (full size washer and dryer), and a walk in closet. The loveseat in the master bedroom unfolds to a double foam bed. The second bedroom has a double bed and is across from the hall bath with stall shower.

The kitchen features a gas stove and includes all needed for preparing family meals, simple to elaborate.

The dining table can be expanded to seat 6.

Every room has a fan, cross ventilation and guide lights for comfort and safety.

Prop mgr/owner is a retired college teacher and counselor who also spent some years as a chef after retiring from school.

Wife is a CPA practicing locally in Pahoa.

We love our Kapoho home and take pride in presenting one of the best rentals in the area for an affordable price.

We love to snorkel and watch the fishes, and Wai 'Opae is one of the best sites on the Island, certainly the best in E. Hawaii.

My sons and I had a wonderful 6 days at your Kahi Ko 'Ola Uhane. You have thought of everything anyone could possibly need here and more!

We loved the tidepools, coral gardens, Champagne pond and the little town of Pahoa.

We will miss the cute geckos that live behind the mirror and dreser that come out to visit. We will let all our friends know how lovely your place is.

EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS!!!!!!!!!

GREAT HOME. WELL EQUIPPED! Peaceful little community, completely walkable. Beach a block away with some of the best snorkeling ever!! Fragrant jasmine bush in the front yard. TOTALLY COMFORTABLE BEDS!

The OUTDOOR SHOWER was a GREAT TREAT, we used it exclusively, big shower head, nice hot water!!! Large expansive deck, perfect for a family or adults. GREAT LOCATION ON THE ISLAND. Perfect to hang out and relax or adventure out and come back to rejuvenate. LESS THAN 5 MINUTES TO ALANUI HOT PONDS. I cannot say enough about what a great value this property is, the owners were available and helpful and our stay was

Great rental!

This place was truly wonderful. The lanai looks out over a lush tropical backyard, the tidepools are only a short walk away, and the neighbourhood was very quiet. We followed David's directions for snorkelling at the tidepools (and avoided the crowded public area), and it was fantastic. - we saw more types of fish than I can remember, urchins, beautiful coral, and even a sea turtle swam by! The house is equipped with a ton of snorkel gear, water shoes in all sizes, beach towels and mats, etc. - everything you need.

The outdoor shower on the lanai is incredibly refreshing both in the morning or in the evening. And you can watch the geckos scamper and play around you. That alone made staying here worthwhile.

We didn't see it listed in the ad, but were pleasantly surprised to find the charcoal BBQ under the house. We grilled our dinner most nights, and even grilled fresh pineapple - yum!

The house is a bit of drive from the nearest grocery store / town area (part of its charm is that the neighbourhood is secluded), so if it's your first time arriving you might want to get groceries in Pahoa, or even the Foodland store up in Kea'au depending on where you're coming from, before driving all the way to the house.

Overall - a great stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to friends or family looking to stay on the Big Island!

Owner's Response: Aloha and Mahalo for the recommendation. You gave good advice to future travelers, both for the tidepool snorkeling experience and the grocery shopping. We do encourage new tenants arriving to stop at our favorite Hilo store, the KTA supermarket, if they are coming in from Hilo. It is right on the way to our home from the airport. Additionally, the Malama Market in the Pahoa Marketplace at the entrance to the Village is the local place of choice for your food needs while at the house.

Wonderful Experience - We Stayed A Month

We always stay in the Kona area, but this year we wanted to explore the east side. Glad we did as this was a totally different experience.

If someone had blindfolded us & driven us to the house & put us on the lanai, we would have thought we were in the middle of a jungle in the middle of nowhere. We would have had no idea we were in nice residential subdivision. From the lanai we could see a couple houses hidden in the trees. From the master bedroom we could see a house through the trees a couple lots away, but it blended in with the surroundings. This area is 'natural' Hawaii, complete with jungle, bugs, sounds of nature.

What to expect: A caring and helpful landlord who calls to ensure you have arrived & to enquire whether you have any questions. Any problems are dealt with right away. Vases of flowers in every room, daily newspaper, no traffic noises & no AC noise (as we are currently experiencing in the condo complex in Kona), a well-outfitted kitchen, snorkel gear, water shoes, large beach towels, ceiling fans & floor fan, a fabulous private outdoor shower....shower under the stars. Just hang towels over the dividers for extra privacy if you have others staying with you. Walk-in closet in the MB. Briquettes BBQ, CDs, books, games. Mosquitoes, ants, geckos, no-see-ems. Remember, you are in the tropics. Take the floor fan on the lanai to keep you cool & to keep the bugs away. For the ants, we just sprayed them with Windex - better than an aerosol bug spray. Keep food in the fridge, not on counter or in cupboards. No garbage pick-up - dispose of your own garbage. Just take it with you & dispose of it at the Transfer Station in Pahoa or in a garbage can at a park, etc. For long-stay visitors: take briquettes, shampoo, laundry soap, tissue, Tpaper, kitchen garbage bags, soap, etc..upon arrival there are enough supplies for a couple of days. This is common practice for long stays in condos and homes. Due to the high humidity, some metal items have rust. Webmail works, but problems with Skype. This is a common problem - we experience this issue at the condo in Kona. 5-minute drive to Ahalanui Hot Pool. The subdivision is flat, so easy walking around the area. Gate on lanai...great for little ones.

We had friends visit us & they thought the house was wonderful. We have been telling other friends about the house & they are very interested in possibly booking next year. We would definitely go back!

Good times

Dave's place is a great place to get away and check out the quiet east side of the Big Island. My family had so much fun there relaxing, fixing dinner in the kitchen, lounging in the living room or on the deck and playing guitar or listening to Hawaiian music, walking around the neighborhood looking at other unique homes and the beautiful flowers, hiking the edges of the nearby ocean and swimming. We especially loved the outdoor patio shower, partially enclosed yet right outside and the old fashioned bathtub in one of the bathrooms. We really enjoyed our stay.

Love Kapaho! Love David's place. Exquisite flower arrangements and lovely artwork. So comfortable and spacious. Fabulous outdoor shower. So much fun getting the local paper every morning from the mailbox. David was super responsive to anything we needed. Very thoughtful.

Sweet community with lots of great walks and access to snorkeling. not far to great markets, Hilo and Volcano National Park.

There were just two of us but it would be easy to share with another couple or with children.

Just to be sure it is clear, the markets in Pahoa and Maku'u are not in walking distance-- one must drive to take advantage of their fresh produce and crafts.

Seriously Disappointing

Sadly, this stay was quite disappointing. In fact, we left 5 days early due to non-existent internet access, hot water issues (no hot water the first couple days), intense humidity (no AC and insufficient fans) as well as insects all over the kitchen and dining room. The bugs were so bad they were often found in the food we were preparing.I wish the property was cleaner maybe there would have been fewer bugs. Also, if you have teens who like Netflix, online games, facetime or if you require internet services, you will not be able to maintain a connection here. One final note: bring your own toilet paper, garbage bags and any other essential items you may need for a stay over three days. Oh, and if you are traveling from Hilo - get groceries from the Foodland (use your phone # for a significant discount) in Hilo or in Keaau. There isn't much for options in Kapoho.

Owner's Response: Aloha: When I called the day of arrival, I was informed that everything was fine. The house was clean. I was not informed of water heater and internet outages immediately. When I arrived to relight the pilot and reboot the router, there were obvious housekeeping issues. I was able to restore hot water and internet,. I heard no more from this tenant until I went to the house on the scheduled date of departure and found a note stating that they had left early. These are folks who would best be served by a full service resort in an urban area. Kapoho is for people who want to experience Hawaii country life. This as a rare rating, from a woman who obviously wanted a Waikiki experience in our tropical paradise.
