ARKANSAS RIVER FRONTAGE PRIVATE/ROMANTIC WATERFRONT

Buena Vista House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Summer reservations are filling up fast! The Arkansas River is running full and looking good for an exciting summer season of rafting and kayaking. As the warmer months approach, our reservation calendar is filling up; but there are still some open dates. This house will fulfill all your needs and expectations. If you decide to cook, the kitchen is fully furnished to make all meals; eat outside on the deck as there are very few insects to bother you. Read a good book on the deck or stretch out on the couch; take a nice hike and then relax in the hot tub. From the house, you'll see rafts and kayaks on the water and you can find many outfitters to take you down the river too. Trails are drying out and open for spring hiking; the hot springs are incredible this time of year. We're located one and a half miles away from downtown BV and it is usually drier and warmer than the high country. If you don't bring your own bike, you can rent them in town. Try a town cruiser to explore downtown areas and the river-park trails or rent a mountain bike to see the beauty of the mountains and have some exciting fun on the extensive system of trails in the area. Whether you want to be energetic and participate in activities or just relax in the hot tub, the choice is yours as every opportunity exists close to this property. Rentals and guides are available for you to fish, ride bikes, go horse-back riding or four-wheeling. Enjoy all of the outdoor activities during the day and star-watch at night! Many people love to hike on a full-moon night because it is so bright and clear in the clean high-altitude air.

Of course, you can just come to the mountains for serenity and quiet; the river is incredibly beautiful right now and wildlife viewing (deer, elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, wild turkeys, occasionally the reclusive mountain lion) is always a delight. We're located in a snow/rain shadow of the 14,000-foot high Collegiate Peak mountains which surround the Arkansas Valley. Rainfall is usually not very heavy close to town where we're situated; however, afternoon thunder showers are common, so bring a light raincoat just in case.

As it continues to get warmer, hiking is perfect in early spring with warm breezes and plenty of warmth from the sun to help you enjoy a picnic or nap. The Barbara Whipple trails which leads into a vast system of endless trails is 1.5 miles away from the Casitas. Gorgeous open vistas of the mountains and wildflowers make the spring/summer landscape breathtakingly beautiful. This time of year offers more opportunities for relaxing and taking short day trips to other towns or ski areas. Aspen is an hour's drive away once Independence Pass opens and it is a ride not to be missed! Excursions into town for browsing, eating, drinking coffee or wine are leisurely and fun and many fairs, concerts and art shows are welcome diversions.

You will not believe how gorgeous the stars are in the clear night sky! The Milky Way is right overhead and the Big Dipper is easy to find. Sitting on the back deck and listening to the river is a soothing and gentle way to prepare for a good night's sleep. Nights are always cool and the only air conditioning needed is an open screened window.

After taking advantage of outdoor activities, come back to the comfort and beauty of the river house. The hot tub is so enjoyable and the cool mountain air provides a brisk contrast to the heat of the water that stays in your body long after you soak in the tub.

No matter the season, Arkansas River Casitas is a very unique and romantic property; the house is a gem on the river! Sit in the hot tub on the private multi-level deck and watch the river go by. The sound of the river is magical all the time and if you happen to wake up in the middle of the night, the melodic river sounds will lull you back to sleep. This modern two-bedroom home is romantic, intimate and beautifully furnished with elegant yet simple decor. Cozy and clean, it has everything you need for your visit. Take time to walk down the gentle path that leads to your private stretch of river or just sit on the deck gazing at the gorgeous Collegiate and Buffalo Peaks. Choose to stay home and fly fish (catch and release) or go one mile up the county road to fish on public BLM land with uncrowded stretches of the river. From Spring to Fall you can picnic on your private waterfront or get active and hike, bike or ride horseback to the National Forest trails. Raft the beautiful Arkansas with one of many professional rafting companies; bring your kayak or rent one and take a lesson. Check out the historic district of Leadville which boasts the highest golf course in America! There is also an incredibly beautiful nine-hole golf course in Buena Vista that is perfect for a late afternoon or early morning round of golf.

The lovely house sits back off of a county road on 1.25 acres and is only a mile and a half from the town of Buena Vista which has coffee shops, restaurants & cafes, art galleries, a golf course, brew pubs, a new whiskey distillery/bar, churches, museums, tennis courts and a well-known river park where many people launch kayaks and rafts.

Short day trips are fun and easy and you can explore two very different towns designated as historic districts. Salida, only 25 miles south, is considered to be one of the best all-around art towns in the United States. Often compared to Santa Fe, N.M., it is lovely without the expense, crowds and attitude of other art towns and has innovative studios and art galleries as well as some of the best restaurants in the county! There is a movie theater, major shopping stores (such as Walmart), wineries and a brewery which is open for tours.

Leadville, which is 25 miles north of the Arkansas River Casitas, has a different flavor and is famous for its mining history and wild-west attitude. It houses the not-to-be-missed U.S. National Mining Museum with rooms full of gems, gold and silver artifacts, mining equipment and an authentic mine reproduction. There are real mine tours available in the area and restaurants, shops and unique antique stores in which to search for bargains and treasures.

Several locally-owned restaurants in all the towns invite you to dine out; but you may want to come back to the river and grill a steak on your very private deck overlooking the river. Arkansas River Casitas is a great location for access to fun and adventure in the Arkansas River Valley and Rocky Mountains. Walk or ride your bike into town and sip an espresso on the patio of the local coffee shop, have lunch or dinner and peruse shops and galleries, take a watercolor or quilting class. Get active and take a kayak, rock-climbing or horseback lesson or rent a boat to fish or cruise on Twin Lakes. Visit the two major hot springs resorts and soak your muscles and bones in the healing water.

Other towns within a short distance from the house are: Breckenridge-60 mi., Copper Mt.-56 mi., Aspen-(in summer) 44 mi. and a little farther away Vail & Winter Park-121 mi.

With all of these activities, you can easily be tempted to roam, explore and enjoy the outstanding areas surrounding this vacation home. However, in the end you may want to just stay home, relax and enjoy this small jewel on the river.

Keywords: Romantic & Fun home right on the Arkansas River. Exquisite private river frontage for fly fishing, kayaking, rafting and lounging on the multi-level deck. Sit & dream as the river flows by below you. Location is rural and secluded, yet very close to trails for snowshoeing, skiing, hiking/biking, lakes and the delightful mountain towns of Buena Vista (1.5 mi.), Salida (25 mi.) and Leadville (30 mi.). This delightful vacation home will entice you to stay and forget all your cares and worries. Let the sound of the river lull you to sleep and the sunshine wake you. Explore old mining towns; go to Leadville or Breckenridge (60 mi.) for the day. Come back to peace & quiet where you will sleep like a baby and wake up refreshed to enjoy warm sunny days and more adventures!

Originally from Baltimore, MD, I fell in love with Colorado on a ski trip here in 1968 and vowed to return to the place where the sky is incredibly blue, the sun shines with warmth at least 300 days a year and the air is clean and fresh. I finally fulfilled my dream and moved to Colorado in 1972 and though I wandered away for awhile, I returned and moved to Buena Vista in 1998. Personal circumstances compelled me to move away from my home on the Arkansas River and its incredible peace and beauty and I don't live here permanently anymore; yet I derive great pleasure in sharing this lovely home with others who are looking for a peaceful and lovely home on the river. I hope you can visit soon!

Linda Effird and Mary Giammari purchased this house in 1998

The river, peace, privacy and quiet with incredible mountain views make this house a sanctuary.

Mostly I love to sit on the deck in the hot tub, sleep with the windows open at night and listen to the river. While watching the river flow past, it's easy to lose yourself in its sights and sounds while looking watching various birds and other types of wildlife who call this home. The house sits back off of a county road on 1.25 acres and is only a mile and a half from town where coffee shops, restaurants, galleries, brew pubs, churches and museums are located. The surrounding areas have something for everyone and you can walk or ride your bike into town to have lunch or dinner, peruse shops and galleries, explore the Arkansas River Park and ride back trails to ghost towns, go rafting, fish, hike/climb, go horseback riding and then visit local hot springs. It's endless what you can do here but mostly I, and people who visit, just want to relax.

Several ski towns are within a day's drive: Breckenridge-60 mi., Copper Mt.-56 mi., Aspen-(in summer) 44 mi. and a little farther away Vail & Winter Park-121 mi.. Salida, CO is frequently compared to some of the best art towns in the U. S., including Santa Fe, N.M., and it's only 25 miles away. It also has a movie theater and major shopping stores.

With all of these activities, you can easily be tempted to roam, explore and enjoy the outstanding areas surrounding this vacation home. However, in the end you may want to just stay home, relax and enjoy this small jewel on the river.

WONDERFUL IN EVERY WAY!

  • 5 of 5
I'm writing this review because we were just there last month and I'm already trying to see when we can return. This cottage is private, funky, comfortable and extremely relaxing. The sound of the river literally washes away all of your stress. The massive rock formations that border the river in the back of the home are really stunning! Next time we will be bring our bikes and ride into the downtown area on a nice day...so close. The mountain views from the porch on the front of the house will take your breath away every time. The deck and hot tub make this place even more perfect. I'm thankful we are in driving distance to this little gem in BV! Thank you for sharing your property:).

FANTASTIC CABIN

  • 5 of 5
We rented the Casita for four nights as a base for trout fishing in the Arkansas River and nearby mountain lakes. What a beautiful place! The Casita was well finished and well equipped. Although the cabin is in a rustic setting, it has all the modern conveniences of home. The deck overlooks the river and is very private. You really can hear the river running by the cabin all day and night. I highly recommend this cabin.

PERFECT PLACE FOR OUR BUENA VISTA VACATION!

  • 5 of 5
We couldn't have picked a better place for our mini get-away. This home is well kept, immaculately clean, super comfy beds, beautiful kitchen and living area, very private. We loved the location and being right on the river. Owner/manager was readily available to answer any questions. We loved it here and would love to return someday.I forgot to mention the wonderful hot tub under a full moon!. We would recommend kayaking on Cottonwood Lake..its a beautiful drive there and the lake is quiet and serene....pack a lunch, enjoy the peace. We also enjoyed a day at Mount Princeton Hot Springs. They have beautiful pools, hot springs, and excellent food (although dinner can be a bit pricey...the salads and appetizers are excellent...as is the food at the pool side cafe). In Buena Vista the Pizza Works has great pizza and we heard the Asian restaurant in town was excellent, but we didn't
make it there. Highly recommend this home!

PERFECT GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
A wonderful spot for unwinding! Photos couldn't begin to do justice to the beauty and drama of the natural setting. Especially loved sitting star-gazing in the hot tub on the completely private deck, with the Arkansas River rushing by just below.

Accommodations were very clean and comfortable. Easy to prepare meals there, but don't miss breakfast at the Evergreen Cafe in town.

Highly recommended.

RIVER FRONT, TRANQUIL, PRIVATE - AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for a week, and could not have been more amazed. Photos do not do it justice! The deck is beautifully constructed to be totally private, yet have views from all angles of the Arkansas River below. We fished right in front of our home in the evenings. Opening the windows invited the river sounds throughout the house. Home is well appointed and clean, with all the necessities - we unpacked a few toiletries and needed nothing else (we didn't even need to bring our coffee bean grinder - the home has one!). Very tranquil, yet only 1.5miles from Main Street. Highly recommend this - we will be staying here again.
