The cottage is located 11 km south-west from Güstrow, at the margins of the Mecklenburg Switzerland. It is close to a farm house with restaurant (fresh fish and wild delicacies, vegetarian dishes), on a large property, by the Upahler Lake. In this idyllic region, you have the possibility to hike, swim, and hunt, watch the wild animals and bike, ride and relax. By the lake, there are two places where you can swim. The hiking trails start directly by the house and continue in the wood covered surrounding (bike tours are a choice). You can watch the white-tailed eagles, cranes as well as deer. Within 10 km, there are several lakes with boat rentals, fishing possibilities and canoe tours. Favoured trip destinations would be: Güstrow, Schloss, Barlach-Atelier. There are hot springs and natural parks. Schwerin is an old town with a castle. Warnemünde has a huge beach and a lighthouse. Heiligendamm ist he oldest Baltic Sea resort in Germany. In Sternberg, there is the Freilicht Museum.

The cottage by the lake is located 11 km south-west from Güstrow and ca. 50 km away from Rostock, 180 km north from Berlin, ca. 170 km east from Hamburg (at the north margin of the Mecklenburg Lake District and Mecklenburg Switzerland). The house is next to a restaured farm house, it has a parking lot and a view upon the large Upahler Lake. There is no car traffic. The idyllic landscape is hilly, and it has a lot of woods and lakes. Even in the high season, there are more than 40 vacationers in the village. This way, Klein Upahl offers a relaxing alternative to other resorts that are overcrowded in the high season.
