Our home is a perfect get-away and will guarantee a relaxing visit on the Big Island of Hawaii. We are in the Kona Paradise subdivision, at the bottom of Kaohe Road, just a short walk to Pebble Beach. We have fantastic views of the ocean and coastline from the entire house, including the lanai. Morning coffee on the lani, watching Hualalai and the ocean view, spatular!

Enjoy the cool ocean breezes while eating a fresh plate of papaya and mango and sipping a hot cup of 100% Kona coffee on the quiet lanai. The beautiful hillside will beckon a morning hike.

Our 2-story home is clean and spacious with an open floor plan. It has three bedrooms, three baths, living room, dining room, office, lanai, laundry and kitchen on the main floor and the garage and parking below. The house has been professionally furnished and will remind you of staying at a Four Seasons Resort. The office has wireless high speed internet and privacy.

The spacious master bedroom has its own sliding door onto the lanai, a California king size bed, walk-in closet, ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers.

The second bedroom has a California king and the third has an Eastern King, both have their own bathrooms with hair dryer, one with an outdoor shower, one with a tub and each with a television.

The bedrooms, living room, dining rooms and bathrooms all are equipped with ceiling fans. The entire house is cooled by delightful ocean breezes rather than air conditioning. There are two sliding doors onto the lanai. The comfortable lanai (16x14) is easily accessed off of the living room and the master suite.

The kitchen has brand new stainless steel appliances and is fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, table linens, cooking utensils, blender, coffee maker, french press, coffee grinder, toaster, griddle, rice cooker, waffle maker and baking pans.

You will find fantastic views and an enjoyable patio dining table and 6 chairs to enjoy quiet mornings or sunset dinners.

We offer our guest the use of wireless high speed internet, our two-person kayak, paddles, life jackets, snorkel gear, beach chairs and umbrellas.

About Property Manager, Melinda

I grew up in Northern California and moved to Hawaii in 1994 when my husband became the Resort Manager at the Four Seasons Hualalai. My husband was born and raised on the Big Island and therefore, the Big Island became our 'home'. We raised our daughter, now 23, in the close knit community of Captain Cook which will always be home to her. When my husband unexpectedly passed away while on a business trip to China in 2011, I decide to move back to Sacramento to be closer to my family and aging parents. I am also following my passion for collegiate athletics and am the Director of Community Relations at Sacramento State, my alma mater. Hale 'Ikena will always be my home away from home and the place that I plan to retire to when the time comes. In the meantime, I would like to share it with you.

Aloha! This is Melinda, I am the property manager. I live just above Kona Paradise on a 5 acre property. My husband and I were organic lettuce farmers for the 'Big Island Hotels' for 23 years. Now we are farm consultants and manage a few proplerties in Kona Paradise. We are happy to help Cheryl with her home and you to enjoy your stay here in South Kona. This is a beautiful place and I am happy to share it with you.

Why Property Manager, Melinda chose Captain Cook

My husband and I were one of the first property owners in Kona Paradise having purchased the land in 1981 and finally breaking ground in 2003. Our dream home was completed in 2005 with many of the design elements inspired by the Four Seasons Hualalai - the outdoor showers, slate tile and decor in particular. The comfort of the home and the peacefulness of Kona Paradise is something we particularly enjoyed.

What makes this house unique

Our favorite features of the house include the view of both mountain and ocan as well as the outdoor showers. The aquarium-like snorkeling in the bay is breathtaking and the sound of the whales at night are simply magical.

We absolutely loved our stay at Hale 'Ikena! This home was fabulous and in a perfect location for the view of waves crashing along the coastline. Seeing and hearing the ocean from the lanai along with watching dolphins and whales was exactly what we hoped for. The Kona Paradise location was beautiful and a short distance away from the crowds of Kailua-Kona with wonderful snorkeling and scuba diving from Pebbles Beach only 4 blocks down the street. We would absolutely rent this house again and recommend it to our family and friends. We miss it already from the winter wonderland of Utah.

Great Quiet Stay in Captain Cook

This property was updated and clean. It also had a nicely stocked pantry to help us in the kitchen. The manager was very friendly and helpful. Our family of 6 was quite comfortable and we enjoyed sunsets every nights on the lanai, occasionally watching and listening to the wales as they passed on the coastline. Being so close to the beach, we also enjoyed the sounds of the ocean day and night. The only negative was the very steep hill down to the property and the beach. However, it allowed for an amazing unobstructed panoramic view.

Wonderful holiday home

When we first walked up the stairs from the garage, our jaws dropped in awe!

This is a beautiful house, so spacious and comfortable and it has every amenity you could wish for. The kitchen was very well stocked with equipment, utensils and condiments.

We took great delight in sitting on the large patio watching the waves as they crashed into the vast shoreline. Sighting humpback whales almost every day of our stay as they journeyed along the shoreline was an incredible experience.

There is a nice black pebble beach at the end of the road where you can snorkel, kayak or swim. To the right of the beach is a pathway that leads along the shoreline that provides great views of the surf pounding into the lava rocks.

We stayed in the house for a week at the end of February. It turned out to be a perfect get-away from the traffic and tourists elsewhere, with privacy and peace and quiet.

Whenever we called Miranda, she was a great help to us.

We would not hesitate to stay here again, or to recommend it to others.

Hale Ikena hous in Konsa Paradise

This mangers Melinda and Harvey were an absolute delight to work with from the moment I was looking for a house till we finished our vacation to the Big Island, they are great people. The house was everything and more than we had expected, the fantastic pictures only tell part of how nice this place is. Kona Paradise is a little remote but then again what isn't on the Big Island. Great black pebble beach at the end of the road in Kona Paradise.

Beautiful home spectacular views

We have stayed in the Captain Cook / Kona Paradise area several times over the past five years. This home was by far the best place we've rented for several reasons. First of all and very important when renting a place in Hawaii you need to have a on site property manager. Melinda manages this property and does it with patience confidence and knowledge. Melinda is awesome!

The house itself is stunning. The furniture is beautiful and comfortable. The beds and bedding are dreamy and inviting. The kitchen is a cooks dream. It is fully stocked with anything you could want. We made every meal except for two at the house because cooking in the kitchen with the ocean view was fun and spectacular especially during sunset. The floor plan lends itself to having an ocean view of the Kona coast from almost every room. It is open and bright and the trade winds flow through every room.By far the best feature in this house for us was the outdoor shower. We never even used the indoor shower at all! The outdoor showers are huge, very private, beautifully decorated and landscaped.

Pebble Beach at the bottom of the property is very close and you can snorkel, swim, paddle board and kayak without leaving Kona Paradise!

Our stay was scheduled for one week and then we were going to stay at a resort but we loved the house so much we asked Melinda if we could stay longer. She rearranged her schedule and the cleaning schedule so we could stay longer. We cancelled our resort stay and we couldn't have been happier.

We have already reccommended this property to many friends and we are already planning to return to Kona Paradise in April.

For those visitors that feel that the Captain Cook area is too far from other activites, please know that any short amount of driving you do is well worth the peacful quiet, lush vegetation, and private beach. No resort compares to this property at all.

We love to snorkel and two step is our favorite spot it is just a few minutes from the house. We also enjoy going to the Volcano and Hilo and staying in Kona Paradise makes this an easy day trip. We go to Kona to shop and stroll also and this is an easy short drive. Hana Hou is our most favorite restaurant that serves great Hawaiian food but even better deserts and it is a short drive south.

We have been to every Hawaiian island and we have stayed at many resorts. This was our favorite stay on our favorite island. Cannot wait to come back in April!

Conveniently remote with Great Views

The View was a pictured...and better. Great view of Sunsets and comfort of home atmosphere. The home was conveniently remote from traffic and centrally located on the Island for trips to Kohala District and Hilo, yet close to Kona area.

The home was clean and there were no maintenance issues.

Constant updates and contact by the property manager (Melinda) was reassuring from the moment we considered the rental and was a decisive factor in our choice.

This property receives my endorsement for anyone who is looking for a larger home rental on the Big Island. Professionally managed and a homeowner that maintains the property is a great starting point. The views at any time of the day from the living room and deck are an added plus.

If you plan on short day activities or staying in and enjoying an evening for dinner and a great sunset. This is it.

Fabulous Experience!

We really enjoyed our stay in South Kona. It was remote enough to feel away from it all but still close to all we wanted to do. The beach at the end of the street was awesome as well. The house was perfect for our family of 6 adults and 1 child. Everyone fell in love with the outdoor showers! My niece was excited to have her own room- a day bed in the den-and the kitchen was stocked with everything you could ask for. Thanks to Melinda and Cheryl for making us feel so welcome!

For Triathlon, We are 35 min. from Kailua…longer from swim event. Volcano National Park is 70 miles to the south with great hiking and views of lava and volcanic plumes. Weekend farmers markets, Kona coffee farm tours and must take home nuts and chocolates from Kona Coast Macadamia Nut & Candy Factory.
