We had the pleasure of spending two and a half months at Yaax Che this year, from mid January until the end of March 2013. The owners website is very well done and the information is accurate and informative. We found both the owners and the property managers to be readily available, easy to deal with and very friendly. They were there for us no matter what the situation called for, be it a phone, directions, area information, beautiful new cookware and blender, translating, whatever we needed help with. Following are some of the reasons we would recommend this rental.
1. The home was very clean, and well-maintained, up to our Canadian standards
2. Bright, spacious and quiet, charming screened windows
3. Shaw direct tv and galaxy music, also a radio and cd player
4. Weekly pool cleaning was included in rental
5. Enclosed front yard provided privacy and wind break
6. Both a shady deck and a sunny deck
7. Miles of deserted beach to walk
8. Buying (and catching our own!) fresh fish from local fishermen on the beach
9. Unlimited supply of water from a well on the property
10. Drinking water delivered right to the back door
11. Shady tiled carport
12. Shallow water in the gulf for safe swimming
13. Progreso and Chixulub, lots of local flavor, close enough to purchase the essentials
14. Wonderful Merida, close enough for shopping, culture, exploring and dining
For the length of time that we are there, we are just looking to be warm, relaxed and comfortable. Yaax Che provided all three. Really, all we had to do was buy provisions and “move in”! We would highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for this type of vacation. We would recommend renting a car. Unfortunately, the dates we needed were not available to us for 2014 or we would definitely be renting this casa again.

Wonderful, tranquil retreat

We stayed here for 2 weeks during December 2010. What a phenomenal place! We drove from Merida after renting a car (both the rental and the drive were fantastically easy), and settled in to this wonderful, roomy beach house. The place is bright and airy, and you can walk for miles up and down the essentially private beach. The neighbours are extremely friendly, but also respect your privacy. The pool was crystal clear, and the pool boy who stopped by weekly was also extremely courteous.

Heading out for groceries, we hopped in the car for the short drive into Progreso. What a magical place! If you are looking for a real authentic, old world Mexican village unspoiled by retail intensification - this is it. No fast food, no outlet stores...just quaint restaurants and stores (ie. excellent and inexpensive), and a terrific farmers market. We went back several times to explore the town. People are extremely friendly, and the town is very safe - even after dark. If you speak Spanish you will certainly fit right in, but in a pinch you can usually find someone who speaks English.

There are many attractions within a short drive (30 minutes or less) including ruins, museums, & parks. Several major landmarks are just a bit further. We even spent a day up the road at an all inclusive resort - they allow you to purchase a day pass (relatively inexpensive) if you feel like taking a day off from cooking (or feel like a massage.)

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was exactly what we needed to recharge our batteries. If you have the time, either upon arrival or before heading home - spend a night or two in Merida as well. The hotels are remarkably quaint & luxurious, the restaurants sublime, and the architecture, culture, and history of the city are mesmerizing.

Yaax Che is Excellent !!!!!!!!!!!

We could not be happier with our stay at Yaax Che'. The owners were fabulous in their communication and were extremely prompt to answer our questions and follow up during the rental reservation process. The house is superb!
We spent early mornings drinking our coffee to the most spectacular sunrises I have ever seen. Our evenings were spent viewing the sunsets which were equally amazing. The house is comfortable, cool, fully equipped and meticulously kept. The kitchen is spacious and the beds are super comfortable. The pool is a delight to cool off in during the day. The location is ideal. It is quiet, safe and convenient to Progreso. The ocean just behind the house is calm and perfect for swimming, snorkeling or fishing. We saw many interesting sites by driving the area in our rental car. Uxmal and Celestun are not to be missed !!! We also visited many small towns and other coastal communities. We could not be happier. This place is paradise on earth !!!

A trip to remember!

What an adventure!

One of my favorite things to do was shop. Who would have thought that I would need to bring an empty suitcase for all the clothes and shoes I bought in the department stores in Merida. We drove the 35 minutes to Merida almost everyday to check out different stores, restaurants and local attractions.

This is a vacation like no other I have ever been on. It was completely different than an all inclusive resort - you buy your own groceries, cook your own meals (that is when you aren't eating at a beachfront restaurant in Progresso, or at a restaurant over looking the square in Merida), and you clean up after yourself (I even made a trip to 'lavanderia' to do laundry. I promise the memories you make here though are so much greater.

You need to wear shoes when you walk on the beach, but the shells you'll find and the animals you see are fantastic.

Something else I really enjoyed were how friendly the locals were. Nobody stares or gawks but everyone tries very hard to help even though I admit even a spanish phrase book didn't help much, but when you do a little pee dance they point to where the washroom is.

Relaxing is not how I would describe my trip, however all of the sightseeing and shopping were things I wanted to do - I think I only spent 2 out of the 14 days at the house without leaving.

Another thing I really enjoyed was drinking tequilla (which is and Im not kidding cheaper than some brands of water down there) on the patio at night after a long day out, and knowing exactly what to expect - nothing, just the quiet sounds of the waves, crickets, and lizard love songs!

Speaking spanish on the trip would definitely be a plus, since no one speaks english . This trip is not for everyone, like I said this is very different from an all inclusive, you have to fend for yourself, but that is what makes this part of Mexico so special - and between you and me I'm happy it's not for everyone otherwise it wouldn't be the way it is.

A beautiful relaxing getaway!

I stayed at Yaax-Che (named for a sacred Mexican tree) for a week with three girlfriends. We had a great time, and it was fun to pretend we lived in a beautiful beach house in Mexico.

We loved the open concept feeling to the house, and the bedrooms were huge. Some rooms also have hammock hooks so you can also sleep in a hammock. Hammocks are not provided, but we bought hammocks as souvenirs and tried them out.

The house is clean and well maintained. No problem with hot water for showers too. Some taps were a bit old looking (but charming).

The beach has beautiful white sand and the water is shallow and really, really warm - a bonus. Not too many people on the beach so we practically had it all to ourselves.

We spent most of our time relaxing, swimming, playing games, cooking, and shopping in Progreso and Merida. A car is a must for getting around, picking up groceries, etc. Also, pay attention on the highway so you don't miss the sign for the property - look for the Yaax-Che tree.

This was a special holiday for us because we got to spend a lot of time together just hanging out and relaxing. If that's what you like too, you'll love this place. Make sure you go with people you like :).

Finally, the owner of this property is really nice and easy to deal with, so have no worries in booking.
