The perfect cottage for a retreat or family get away

This cottage was so perfect for my birthday retreat. It’s settled between a lagoon on the back side that is fed by the Sound and just across the street (kitty corner) is the public access to the beach. There are incredible views of the Sound from the front (from a covered porch with cozy furniture to lounge on) and lovely views of the lagoon in the back (from the sweet yard and the upstairs bedroom)- there are birds of all shapes and sizes everywhere. Everything from hummingbirds and swallows to hawks, herons, and eagles. Stunning. And so quiet at night! Lovely!
Things I loved: a sweet bike ride to the farmer’s market on Saturday (which is a must see), walking on the beach (which is super long during lower tides), plenty of space inside and out to perch for reading or writing, waking up to spectacular sun rise over the lagoon, evenings on the beach, and the sights and sounds of the birds all day long.
Things to know about the cottage: it’s originally a family beach cottage, and it has that feeling. Like kids have run in and out with sandy feet and women have sat on the porch with iced tea and lemonade while the men barbequed burgers in the back. It’s older, which makes it that much more charming, and it’s pretty darned adorable and very clean. There is a super comfy leather couch and chair in the living room, a sweet little kitchen with all of the kitchen things I could ever need, and a little dining table. There’s a lovely area for sleeping quarters upstairs with incredible views of the water front and back. The windows upstairs all open up for perfect sea breezes, and there are curtains to separate the sleeping areas for privacy (a full/queen bed and three twin beds). The back yard is delightful- covered patio with a grill, a large round table, and lots of areas to lounge around. There’s also a fire pit that is pretty rustic right next to the lagoon which would be great on a colder night.
I will definitely be back to this little home by the sea. It’s a sweet and charming place where memories are meant to be made.
