Here's the bottom line: This is not a typical rental property; it is our gracious and refined home, with extensive gardens that provide a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience in a quaint seaside town. We rent our home, selectively, during the summer while we spend time at our lake cottage. Most of our renter come back year-after-year to enjoy our delightful home. We would love to have you start the same tradition.
The master bedroom suite has an oversized king bed with its own full bath and two sinks. The second bedroom has a queen bed, and the third bedroom has two single beds. There is a queen Murphy bed in the finished basement.
My family and I just spent the holidays here in Portsmouth, and thanks to you sharing your wonderful house, it was a total success. This is a such a nice home -- thank you so much for letting us spend the week!
We are a professional couple in our mid-50s, who work in downtown Portsmouth, and enjoy travelling in our free time.
We have lived and worked in this area for decades, and when this property came on the market nearly 20 years ago, we jumped at it. It is one of the nicest homes in Portsmouth, and we have loved living in it and raising our children here.
One of us loves gardening and the other loves cooking and history, and this house is a perfect fit for both of us. The gourmet kitchen is a chef's dream, the front and back gardens have grown over the years to be truly amazing spaces, and the home is a short walk to historical downtown Portsmouth.
Portsmouth, NH is routinely ranked as one of the -- if not the -- most attractive small towns in America. Recently, the Chicago Tribune described it as 'perfect' and 'one of the nation's most kid-friendly, walkable, food-centric, historic, livable and romantic cities.
Our home is a century-old brick-end colonial on a dead-end street, just a short walk to the shops, restaurants, sights and sounds of the downtown. Portsmouth has something for nearly every visitor, whether you are visiting for the salt air at the many local beaches, the vibrant art and music downtown, the shopping across the river at the Kittery Outlets, or just taking in the immersive history of the town.
Portsmouth's local attractions are too numerous to mention in one paragraph, but some of the highlights include:
The Music Hall, a 900 seat theater from 1878 that showcases music, dance, theater, and film every night of the week.
Strawbery Banke and Prescott Park, the site of the first settlement in New Hampshire (and the nation's third town), which is now an historical village filled with interesting stories and architecture. Across the street, Prescott Park is a beautiful public garden running along the waterfront that features a music and arts festival every summer.
The U.S.S. Albacore, a pioneering submarine built and launched at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1950, is now preserved in the North End for visitors. Children especially love exploring the interior of the ship.
Portsmouth also has a substantial number of well-maintained historic colonial and federal era homes in the downtown. They are all available to view, and many people choose to visit them as a walking tour. More information is available from the Portsmouth Historic Houses Association.
