About Kris Rogers

We are hard-working professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area. Kris is a Radiologic Technologist and Don is an Engineering Project Manager. We were attracted to the beauty and tranquility of the area.

Kris Rogers purchased this house in 2010

Why Kris Rogers chose Mariposa

Our honeymoon was in Yosemite and we have shared a love of this area. We loved the open concept, exposed wood beam ceiling in the living room, the slate floors, and granite counter tops. We saw the potential in this property from the immediate yard area to the more remote areas that are picturesque and great for future trail development.

What makes this house unique

We love looking at our mountain view, the beautiful sunsets, and the visiting wildlife. While drinking coffee on our covered patio we enjoy watching the hummingbirds. Sunsets are enjoyed with a glass of wine while seated in the Tuscan bistro area. Other activities include working on the property, hiking, playing bocce ball, putting, and riding bicycles and motorcycles.

Couldn't have asked for more!

Couldn't have asked for more!

This trip was over Thanksgiving to make it easier for my grown children to take the time off, but it was my 60th birthday present to myself and the house just made it perfect! The home was large and clean and had all the amenities that one could want, plus that being in the country feel and a million stars at night. I truly commend Kris for what she has done with the outside too. Lots of lovely gathering places so we could break up into small groups and the same was true of the interior.
We had 7 adults, on person couldn't make it so we should have had 8 and it suited us all perfectly. Thanksgiving dinner was perfect. A more complete list of cooking gear would have made me bring less, but I would have been unsure doing Thanksgiving dinner anyway!
The proximity to Yosemite allowed us to explore one day and then another day in Oakhurst and Mariposa was wonderful for the shoppers in our midst!
Thanks so much for the memories your house let us make!

Tranquility and Beauty above it all!

  • 5 of 5
This was our second stay at the lovely Howling Wolf Lodge, and we found new landscaping and outdoor amenities for everyone to enjoy. The home is extraordinarily spacious, yet still has a cozy feeling. The interior amenities are luxurious and every comfort has been remembered: thick, fluffy towels, comfy beds, tasteful decoration, interesting artwork. The gourmet kitchen has everything one could need to enjoy great meals, and the owners have provided games, TV, DVD player, and air hockey, to name a few of the items to pass the time. Of course gazing at the view or taking in the natural setting are favorite options. This was an adult siblings getaway, and a couple of us had to work remotely - the wifi was excellent and enabled us to do this without a problem. My Verizon phone had perfect reception too. We were also able to explore the area thanks to the wonderful binder the owners provided with ideas, menus, brochures, etc. We went to the coffee roasting company, several shops in town, and a driving excursion. I am also very grateful for the instructions provided in this binder; as they made operating the electronics and appliances easy! I stay in vacation rentals a few times a year, and this is by far my favorite of any I've visited!

Beautiful home, beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5
Our group loves HWL so much that we've met there three years in a row. This lovely home truly offers something for everyone: spacious rooms for gatherings, gourmet kitchen for foodies, plentiful areas inside and out (deer!) to retreat or read, a big screen for the football game, and jaw-dropping sunsets. It's hard to describe ambiance, but HWL has loads of it. It IS as spectacular as the photos describe. Can't wait to return! Thank you Kris and Don for another great howling experience!

Relaxing, Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for 4 days for a multi-generational family getaway. The house was sizeable and comfortable enough to ensure that everyone felt they had space and ease; from the 3 year old to the 70 year olds. The drive into Yosemite was a bit long, but we knew that and were prepared for it; plus it was a beautiful drive. It rained one of the days we were there and we happened by chance to take the 3 year old on the train ride. However at the train ride's altitude it was snowing; such a beautiful winter-wonderland. This is a beautiful home in beautiful surroundings; we hope to be back soon!

Perfect Two Family Accommodation

  • 5 of 5
Our two families (aged 16 to 55) thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at HWL in July. The property is spotlessly clean and very well maintained. We felt very comfortable and at home the moment we walked through the door. This was our base while visiting all the attractions in Yosemite and surrounding area. Would definitely recommend this rental to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in this area.
The only negative point I could make is that surprisingly there wasn't an iron & ironing board to smarten up our creased clothes - although Kris tells me she is in the process of addressing this. Still a fantastic find!

Extended Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5
This was a great place for my two siblings and spouses, my niece, my husband and me to retreat after a family wedding in Napa. The accommodations at Howling Wolf Lodge suited our needs perfectly. The main attraction that brought us to this region was Yosemite. When searching for lodging in this area we were hoping for a nice place where we could cook some meals and relax after our days of hiking and exploring this beautiful park. The drive to Yosemite from HWL was about an hour away which we were aware of before booking our stay. Although a closer place would have been preferred, HWL was certainly more than we could hope for. It was a secluded location yet easily accessed off a main road. The house and grounds are well-kept with a beautiful view at sunset. The listing pictures are accurate in appearance and the house was more spacious than we expected. We were able to cook our meals and pack lunches for our hiking excursions. We appreciated the coolers available for day use which were a welcome touch for those of us who came from a distance and could not bring one along. The Pioneer Market in Mariposa provided a great small town store with friendly service which satisfied our grocery needs. Although we were tired at the end of our adventurous days; HWL was a wonderful haven where we could relax, recuperate, and enjoy being with family. Thanks to Kris and Don for sharing their lovely vacation home which provided a marvelous experience with many memories of our stay in the Yosemite area.
