First and foremost, welcome to my newly renovated little slice of heaven.

Call My Bluff was built in 1947 and was originally a fish camp. Fishermen came to relax for a week or weekend of fishing and preparing and eating their catch. If you look above the bed in the bedroom, you can see where the stove pipe was vented through the top of the cottage to heat the fishermen. Up until the winter of 2014, the back porch was screened-in exposing the bathroom to the elements. Even though this was the quaint original structure, there were some things that needed to be modified to make this a cottage comfortable for all seasons.

Enjoy the new outdoor shower, private porch with new case windows, insulation and new windows throughout, steps to the 70’ dock below, upgraded furniture, kitchen cookware and flatware, new steps and handrails to the roadside entrance, new shady umbrella for the dining table on the riverside deck and a 32” smart TV with cable and wireless internet.

Bring your book, a fishing pole and some summer beverages, and you should be equipped for your vacation getaway at Call My Bluff Cottage on the Neuse River at Minnesott Beach, North Carolina. If you are single and need a retreat or if you are a couple seeking a romantic getaway, this is for you! For small families, it is a cozy spot if you love the river and relaxing on the screened-in porch, set for privacy and relaxation. Fishermen welcome. No pets please.

The cottage rents for $825 per week, $325 per weekend, and $100 for each additional night. The cottage will accommodate 4. Go to www.vrbo.com to view Call My Bluff. Enter the #359773. If you would like to see the larger cottage next to Call My Bluff, go to www.vrbo.com and enter the # 245297 to view Journey’s End Cottage which accommodates 8. Journey’s End is the oldest structure along this stretch of the Neuse River. Old but equipped with everything that you need to make a week or weekend vacation optimal.

Relaxation, fishing, a sunset walk on the waterfront, meals with a view of the Neuse River, kayaking, shopping, and dining in Oriental, Beaufort or New Bern.

Perfect Escape

My fiancé and I needed a quick trip away before school starts for both of us (he's a teacher and I am a grad student) Call My Bluff was a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a quiet trip. I would highly recommend for couples needing a romantic getaway. Private and serene...and a great place to watch the sunset on the dock! We will be back!!

Much Better than the Photos

  • 5 of 5
July 2nd to 6th 2014: My wife and I wanted to get away for a few days together to escape household duties and the encroachment of work schedules. The cottage is perched on a bluff allowing a long restful view of the Neuse River. We arrived the evening before Hurricane Arthur. We woke in the morning, had coffee on the deck overlooking the river. The cottage as you can see from the photos has a small footprint but is so well layed out that it feels very large and comfortable. It is as restful as the views. One thing we liked very much which is a small detail is that hanging hooks have been placed throughout the cottage. This is perhaps an odd detail but very convenient and something that is ingenious. It gave us places to hang clothes etc so that they could be easily found. I tend to lose things easily. The interior design could not be more pleasant. It is rustic but I use the word in the best sense in that you can see and feel the origins of the cottage yet all amenities are there. We cooked in the kitchen for all meals and found it to have all the right pans and all the best utensils. This was a very nice surprise and is not always the case with rentals. The airconditioning worked well although it was cool enough to sleep with the windows open one evening and listen to the sounds of the river. Remember, this is NC in July. This too was a nice surprise.

We brought our 15' skiff with us. We put it in at Oriental and spent two days motoring around the creeks and took a trip down to Minnesott beach. It was part of the total escape from day to day reality.

I think I mentioned hurricane Arthur. It did get very windy, the electricity went off for an hour or so, but the cottage felt very solid. It has seen much worse and Arthur was a wimp. The morning after could not have been more beautiful.

We spent the evening of July 5th on the dock. We could see fireworks displays in Beaufort, Havelock and New Bern. We will return to " Call my Bluff" as soon as our schedules will allow.

Owner's Response: This cottage has been renovated to a higher level of design maintaining the character of the original fish camp. The hooks serve as a convenient source for storage and organizing.....thank you for noticing that design aspect of Call My Bluff. It has been fun making this cottage efficient and desirable to those who vacation here. Knowing that renters plan to return is exactly what makes imroving Call My Bluff worth while. Thank you!!

Relaxation!!!

  • 5 of 5
Lots and lots of rain... but it made for great sitting on the screen porch and enjoying a cup of coffee :) Didn't do any cooking since we had cousins in Terry's other house next door where all the meals were made. Loved the outdoor shower!! The squirrels were delightful..they love cheese nab crackers and apple pieces....

Nothing Better!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at this wonderful "Slice of Heaven" for a few days after Memorial Weekend. I have no words to explain our happiness with this cottage, the location, and Terry herself! This cottage was so much more than a simple place to stay on the river. It allowed us to "step back in time" but also have all the modern conveniences that we could have ever needed! The decor was splendid; combining rustic, comfort, modern colors, and nautical touches. The kitchen was wonderfully stocked and very enjoyable to cook in. The view was beyond perfection from all locations, including, inside the cottage, the screened in porch, the deck, and the pier! You couldn't escape the wonderful views (not that you would ever want to)! We enjoyed the outdoor shower and loved traveling around the area, exploring different coastal towns but also being able to take a quick drive and enjoy our favorite restaurant in New Bern! This cottage is a perfect place for anyone who wants a romantic getaway; younger or old, new marriage or 50th anniversary. If you are considering this cottage, do not hesitate to stay here. It is everything you could ever want or need!

Owner's Response: One of the best parts of having a great cottage getaway is sharing it with others that seek a retreat or getaway in a unique setting. Call My Bluff has been a labor of love and holds many fond memories for the previous owner as well as those who have discovered it's charm more recently. It's nice to know that it has this pleasant effect on couples, singles and families alike.

Little Piece of Heaven on Earth!!!

  • 5 of 5
Call My Bluff was the perfect stay for my husband and myself. We were celebrating 27 years of marriage and wanted to just get away from all the hustle/bustle and stress. There is no doubt that we found it here. The cottage is so quaint and the view of the river just topped the place off. We have already recommended this place to everyone back home and our daughter and her husband have already planned their trip to stay in November for their 6 yr anny. We enjoyed going into Oriental, ate lunch there, only about a 15 min drive. We made a couple of trips into New Bern where we found several great places to eat and did a little site seeing, only about a 30 min drive. Our favorite part of the trip was just hanging back at the cottage where we left the doors open and enjoyed the wonderful view and breeze off of the river. There are not enough words to say about this place and we have no doubt that we will be returning again and again. There is a larger house also located on the property that we are hoping to stay in with our family in the near future. Last but not least, you will not find a nicer owner to deal with on a rental. Everything went very smooth and she was extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing your little piece of heaven on earth with us!!! Can't wait until our next stay.

Just what we were looking for!

  • 5 of 5
I told my husband I wanted us to spend Memorial Day weekend where it was peaceful and quiet. "Call My Bluff" was perfect for us! I felt like we "went back in time" to a much simpler life. We had everything we needed or wanted. I enjoyed cooking in the well organized kitchen that had everything imaginable you could need. We are looking forward to taking our family to the bigger cottage next door in just a few days. Thanks so much for sharing a little heaven on earth with us!
