About The Owner
Doug is a retired businessman who traveled the world for a living; Barbara a retired editor, retail manager, and Jill-of-all-trades. We both enjoy traveling, staying in foreign countries long enough to see the sights and absorb some of the local culture.
Both of us are very involved in community volunteer work. Barbara a fund raiser for the Hoodland Women's Club, currently attempting to bring in funds to construct a new community center.
Jed, our German Shepherd, doesn't let us forget his daily frisbee session or walk. He keeps us company during the day while Doug gardens, pastes together our 1920's house or works in his shop, and Barbara gardens, writes, prepares feasts or does needlework. We are both avid readers and music lovers.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1993
Why The Owner chose Welches
We chose this property because it came with the house on a beautiful twelve acres of land on the Salmon River. We have traveled a fairly large swath of the Earth and think this is one of the most beautiful places in it. It also is only an hour's drive from the attractions of Portland in one direction and the Columbia River Gorge in another. Barbara grew up spending summers in the family cottage on the Salmon River near their current dwelling.
What makes this cottage unique
Being secluded at the end of a dead end gravel road, having riverfront acreage with a swimming hole, a place to watch salmon spawning in autumn, a shopping center only five minutes away and a resort just across the river.
