Owner and Georgia Real Estate Broker who loves the outdoors wants to share my paradise with you. I am a small business owner, a frequent traveler, a sports enthusiast and a nature lover. I know once you step on the property, you will fall in love with it like I have.
I am currently in the midst of a personal sabbatical, working at jobs I love, meeting everyone I can and will soon write about my experience in the loft of the cabin. In the meantime, please enjoy my Daves' retreat while you can.
Leanne Walasek purchased this cabin in 2002
A short trip from ATL will find yourself in the middle of the Chattahochee National Forrest. Once you visit, it will become very obvious how lucky I was to find this cabin.
I recommend coming prepared with at least a few days of groceries. Once you arrive, you will not want to leave. Even though the nearest grocery store is but 15 minutes away, you'll want to leave civilization behind for a least a few days.
First order of business after putting up the groceries is to pour yourself your favorite beverage and sit on the front porch swing. Unwind. Relax. Decompress.
Next, familiarize yourself with the house. Pick your bedrooms. Become one in the treetops as you gaze out the giant loft windows. Make yourself at home. You will soon find how easy that will be.
Peak at the basement. Plan your downstairs game time. Maybe a little wager at the pool table. Bring your Wii or X Box to hook up to the gigantic TV. The kids won't surface for hours.
Next fix yourself your favorite meal. My favorite, a big spaghetti dinner. The open kitchen and living area provides a great gathering spot. Of course, hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill is a crowd pleaser. If you bring your own wood, you can use the fire pit in the middle of the gravel driveway (away from cars!). There are plenty of lawn chairs to sit and roast marshmallows.
Take a hike down Daves Road. If you continue past the house, this will lead you up Gork Hollow to the top of Picklesheimer Mountain. There are beautiful views up there. The walk is peaceful, through the tall pines and oaks, passed the mountain feeder creeks embraced by dense ferns. You might even come upon a few deer.
Be adventurous and explore the area. Embrace the north Georgia mountains. Fish, hike, shop, dine, raft, and do some scenic driving. Make sure you visit all the websites listed. With the numerous things to do, you might run out of time if you don't plan!
OR you can just stay at the cabin and relax!
My Mom, my husband and I spent 10 days around Christmas at this cabin and had a blast! We loved the big fireplace, and built a fire almost every night. A couple of days it was really chilly and rainy, and we kept it going all day! Leanne was a pleasure to deal with, and addressed all of our concerns before our trip. There was plenty of cupboard space to store all of our groceries, something we had an issue with when renting other cabins. We were amazed that, being a pet-friendly cabin, it was immaculately clean, with no "dog smell" whatsoever! The covered patio was a great place to store the wood, and kept it nice and dry. On the nicer days, we enjoyed sitting on the porch and reading or just watching the world go by. Drove into Blue Ridge a number of times, a nice 20 minute drive to a quaint, lovely town. Took the Blue Ridge Railway trip and loved it! A nice grocery store (Ingles) had everything we needed, and we had to visit Mercier Orchards for some fried pies! We also went to Helen, GA (only about an hour away) and had a delightful time. Dillard House Restaurant, in Dillard, GA, is only about an hour away, too, and well worth the trip. We had 2 disappointments...that it didn't snow and that we didn't see any deer! Guess we'll have to stay again to get one or the other!!
Leanne's home is just wonderful. The cabin is so beautiful as is the property. We had plenty of room and comfort to entertain our visiting family. We will definitely inquire about staying again. Everything was perfect!
My husband and I, and our two dogs, truly enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The property is lovely and the setting very private, yet close enough to the delightful little town of Blue Ridge to easily run in for a meal, groceries, etc. We had a few small issues on arrival and the owner was very responsive and a pleasure to deal with. We highly recommend this property, and would not hesitate to return.
Cabin was exactly as listed! Awesome porch to enjoy a cup of joe and listen to nature wake up. We highly recommend it and plan to stay again real soon. Property owner is easy to contact and work with.
Very nice place has everything needed, very secluded but not far from amenities. Our family enjoyed the stay would come come back again. The owner was very easy to deal with. Thanks for the stay.
My family and I had a great time! Wish it would have been warmer but sitting by the fire was cozy. Loved sitting on the front porch. Wish we could have stayed longer. Nice view.
