Discover the unspoiled beauty of Nicaragua's Pacific coast, unwind and enjoy life at a slower pace, and practice your Spanish with the locals!
The architect-designed houses of Quinta Mar y Estrellas are located on Playa Hermosa in Huehuete, part of a 20-kilometre-stretch of shoreline, between the charming fishing village of Casares to the north and the Chacocente Nature Reserve to the south. The houses provide all the comfort of high-end accommodations in a natural setting, using sustainable energy sources such as solar panel electrical systems and solar hot water heating. A constant breeze and celilng fans help to keep the rooms cool without air conditioning. As local visitors have said, it's a luxury beach house designed 'con sabor Nica!'. All of the furniture in Quinta Mar y Estrellas is made by local artisans.
MAIN HOUSE: The airy Kitchen is fully functional and opens onto the Living room with panoramic ocean views. It boasts a full-sized refrigerator-freezer and gas range, as well as a clothes washer. Enjoy a breakfast of tropical fruit or a meal of freshly-caught fish in the stunning Dining area, a large screened-in patio made entirely of exotic hardwoods with a beautiful cathedral ceiling handmade of sugar cane. The large refectory dining table seats 12 people and is handmade from antique recycled woods. Learn about the tumultuous history of Nicaragua by choosing a book from the small library in the Living room, then head through the Dining area onto a raised terrace leading to a large shady Rancho, where hammocks and beach chairs are readily available for reading, napping, sea turtle-watching and other such strenuous activities!
The private Master suite on the third floor allows for sweeping views down the Pacific coast towards Costa Rica. Its small private access bridge lets you take a last look at the fantastic spectacle of stars before you retire for the night... no light pollution here! The unique King-sized bed/desk was custom-made for the room, again of tropical hardwoods. Individual bedside spotlights let you read your favourite novel to the rhythmic sound of the surf. The master bathroom includes a full tiled shower with abundant hot water and water pressure. The Guest suite in the main house has a beachfront view and is equipped with a Queen bed and a Twin sofa-bed, a closet and a private Balinese-style shower suite open to the stars!
GUEST HOUSE: Two identical guest Bedrooms share a large separate main Living room with full kitchen and Dining area, opening onto an outdoor terrace with a private dipping Pool sparkling under a shady rancho. The upper terrace of the Guest house is the ideal spot for magnificent sunset viewing during the cocktail hour! The Bedrooms are each equipped with a Queen-sized bed and a Twin bed, a closet and a full Balinese-style shower suite with a beautiful handmade cement tile floor, polished cement countertops and white walls highlighted with tropical wood trim. They include toilet, sink and a plant-filled shower area without a roof, so that the sunshine or stars are part of the shower experience!

As Canadians living in Montreal, we were looking for a place in the sun to spend winter vacations with family and friends. After visiting Costa Rica and going up and down the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, we found this lovely, quiet beach and decided to build a home where we could be in close communion with the sea and the stars!...hence Quinta Mar y Estrellas. We are happy to make it available to vacationers seeking a relaxing beach vacation in a country as yet relatively undiscovered by tourists.
The advantage of staying in our part of the coast, as opposed to popular developed areas such as San Juan del Sur, is the opportunity to live with the Nicaraguan people and to experience their way of life. Shopping in the market, participating in a village hipica on a Sunday and deep-sea fishing with the locals will introduce you to some of the most friendly and serene people we have met in our travels, in spite of their tumultuous history and relative poverty.
Easy day trips also allow you to discover the natural beauty of Nicaragua's volcanoes, typical towns and villages and authentic handicrafts, as well as its beautiful colonial cities, Granada and León.
We had a great vacation. Warm climate, gorgeous sunsets, relaxed atmosphere, side trips...The stay in Huehuete was very pleasant, the houses are beautiful and welcoming. We recommend the nice long beach walks...

My wife and 6 kids decided to do something completely off the grid for once. It was my daughters last Thanksgiving while still a college student so this was the year. We researched CR, Mexico and the Virgin Islands. Never really thought of Nica until our travel agent went there to investigate a resort. I thought that would be interesting...Nicaragua. Well I did my research and putting a surf beach, fairly close to Managua and a surf shop nearby we found Mar y Estrella. We all loved being off the internet, w/o cell service and socializing within ourselves, and of course surfing as a family. The beach was like Newport, Corona or Huntington Beach in So Cal must of looked like 100 years ago. Nobody there with perfect waves all day long. The caretakers and cook were wonderful and hard not to befriend immediately. Day trips fishing and volcano exploring at Mombacho and neighboring Granada were nice to break up the serenity of sitting on the beach or taking a siesta in the hammock. Louise was easy to work with and has given me countless tid bits of extra info and tips.
1. Driving anywhere will take you twice as long as you think.
2. "Some" spanish is not enough. Someone needs a minimal conversational spanish to get anything except for Granada
3. A four wheel drive is recommended, any rain and dirt roads become like wet rubber cement
4. You learn to share the road with ox drawn carts, loose chickens, goats and pigs
Sunsets were unbelievably beautiful, Dinner at Hotel El Casino in Caseres is worth the small drive (ask for Patrice, the owner) and Nica people are wonderfully friendly and we were treated very well
Execelente instalaciones muy buena atención del personal cargo una bella playa para bañarse y lugar presente una execelete seguridad.... Muy recomendado para descasar y disfrutar... Recomendado a mil
This is a beautiful house with an extraordinary beach. I have been there in two occasions and I plan to keep visiting this house. I truly recomend this place to enjoy with family. The best of all is the locaction of the house in a beautiful and private beach of Nicaragua with easy access.
An amazing place to relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches of the Pacific of Nicaragua. Great view, long walks on the beach, incredible sunsets, a nice place to stay away from the noise and stress of the big cities.
We stayed at Quinta Mar y Estrellas the first part of April. It was a truly magical experience. If you want thirteen dining options within a five minute drive, it is probably best to try somewhere else. That does not mean however that you cannot have a great meal at Huehuete or Casares (for the nearby options). Also, the kitchen has everything you need, to provide for yourself. But if you want to have an “all to yourself” beachfront experience in a beautiful home in a beautiful setting, put this house on your shortlist. My traveling partner thought everything about the house was very tasteful and it was obvious a lot of thought had been put into it. We stayed in the main house and had originally tended to sleep in the tower. But after staying the first night in the main level bedroom, we just simply couldn’t imagine waking up to any better dreamlike surroundings. It was a great base from which to explore that corner of Nicaragua. The caretakers were very nice and the house was clean and comfortable. The highlight of the house was the elevated shaded perch at the end of the elevated walkway. Magnificent!!!! Hours upon hours were spent there, being mesmerized by the sight and sound of the mighty Pacific Ocean rolling in. The beautiful beach was essentially deserted other than sparse locals using it as a foot/cart/horsepath. The house, the beach, the place all left a mark on me and I truly hope I can return!
This was the second time staying at the Quinta Mar y Estrellas. This vacation house has become for me and my family, the place where we meet every year. The weekend at the house met all my expectations (again), the property was clean and really well-maintained, it has everything to make u feel at home: nice wooden furniture, a full equipped kitchen, a rancho with hammocks and the caretakers were always there when needed. Besides I like the fact that the owners care of ecology: solar panels for electricity and hot water, used local resources for the decoration and construction of the house and help to preserve the sea-turtles by protecting their eggs from being sold. It´s incredible to have such peace, nature and the most beautiful sunset views just 90 minutes from the capital. The beach is perfect for the kids to play and bath, there were not many people, it was like having our private beach! My family and I had a great time in Quinta Mar y Estrellas, and we are looking forward to our visit next year.
