DESERT BEAUTY, CLOSE TO CITY, QUIET AND PRIVATE

Tucson Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Tucson Glass Cottage: open-concept living in the desert

This architect-designed original home was completed in early 2013. High sloping ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass walls, polished concrete floors, custom poured concrete feature walls, bamboo drop ceilings, beautiful recessed lighting and myriad 'Architectural Digest' touches make this the perfect spot for the discerning traveller seeking an urbane hideaway in the Sonoran desert.

The panoramic floor-to-ceiling glass walls mean you will be completely in touch with the desert landscape. Saguaros and other cacti surround you. Quail, rabbits, javelinas, coyotes may wander by. You will wake up on the bedroom to the sun rising over the Catalina Mountains to the east and can view the sunset over the Tucson Mountains from the dining area.

Covered quartzite stone decks facing both west and east. Acacia chairs and table on the east deck, bistro table and chairs on the sunset deck. Lounge chairs for sunny afternoons. Driveway parking for one car, a second car can be parked in a pull-out immediately across from the Cottage.

One half of the Glass Cottage has a Poliform queen size bed; Wassily-style chairs and a Frank Ghery cocktail table and 'Wiggle Chair' in the sitting area facing a working acorn fireplace; dressing room with ample drawers and hanging space; huge two-person glass shower with stone floor and stunning views to the west; vanity area with bamboo sink on cantilevered concrete counter; and a separate and fully enclosed toilet room. Facing east, you will wake up facing the sun rising over the Catalina Mountains.

A few feet away across a covered breezeway, the other half of the Glass Cottage contains the fully equipped kitchen with beautiful tiled countertops; a custom-designed trestle oak dining (or work) table, with 6 chairs; a Danish swivel reading chair and Damson reading lamp; and a leather flip-down sofa, ideal for an afternoon nap. Facing west, you'll be treated to the sun setting over the Tucson Mountains as you prepare dinner.

Tucson Glass Cottage shares 3.3 acres with only the owner's residence, some 100 yards away and oriented to ensure privacy for both homes. The Cottage is accessed by a private gravel road, shared only by the owner's home. The acreage is in the center of a group of 6 similarly large plots, far from traffic.

This is the perfect spot for an individual or couple seeking real tranquility and a touch of luxury in a magical desert setting. Yet an easy drive into the University area, downtown, and into the magnificent Saguaro National Park.

When a house is more than a roof over your head

  • 5 of 5
The Glass Cottage is an extraordinary find. More than a cottage, it is an exquisite fusion of space, light, design and taste. We’ve been devotees of VRBO’s for some time. This is once-in-your-life place. Sited in the desert, but easily accessible, the Glass Cottage is splendidly appointed. It’s elegant, minimal and hospitable at the same time. It was like being suspended in the desert with nothing to interrupt your experience of its essence. We never failed to get a slight rush when we approached this delightful set of glass prisms at dusk. There is no more beautiful place watch the sun sink (or rise.) The sky, stars, mountains, cacti, quail, are as visible from the inside as the outside.
The interior is just as compelling, only a different composition, and an exquisite complement to the natural habitat. The choices of color, texture, shapes, materials, are stylish without being pretentious.
The owner and his caretaker manage to be invisibly attentive. Their presence is manifested in the front end, before you arrive. They epitomize the reasons why we love to rent from owners. I would recommend the Glass Cottage as an integral part of anyone's vacation experience.
Too many superlatives can call the credibility of a review into question. But we can’t invent a negative. Seldom has the physical design of our living environment made such a positive impact on a holiday.

Unique Home, Amazing Desert Experience

  • 5 of 5
The Glass Cottage was our home away for two, two-week periods this year. The house, with its striking art, is itself a work of art - a balance of raw steel, glass, concrete and wood - surrounded by natural Sonoran desert. The way the house is situated, the sun rises on the bedroom section and sets on the kitchen/lounging side, allowing views to be enjoyed through floor to ceiling glass or from two well-positioned porches. Every afternoon when the sun strikes the northwest corner of the house where two thick panes of glass meet, it creates a prism, sending all the colours of the rainbow across the porch and onto a nearby Creosote bush.

Tucson’s weather was perfect for winter-weary travellers and we particularly enjoyed its prolific metal art throughout the city on garden walls, gates, building facades, interiors. The kitchen at the house is well-appointed but we managed to sample several restaurants - notably Pastiche on N. Campbell and Tasteful Kitchen on N. Stone Ave, a vegan restaurant to be appreciated by non-vegans, as well.

During our time in the Glass Cottage, we watched the desert bloom, coyotes pass through, birds come to forage and one memorable night, were entertained for several minutes by a herd of Javelina under a full moon. It was a special time.

Spectacular, book it if you can!

This is a dream. Utterly isolated, yet near amenities. Great day-time views of the mountains and night time views of Tucson's city lights. A lot of thought went into the design. Great cookware, and high quality stove. At the end of a gravel road, so there are utterly no interruptions of any sort. I am honored to be one of the first guests at this spectacular glass cottage!

Down a private gravel road to 3.3 acres of gorgeous and unspoiled Sonoran desert, shared only with the owner's main home (some 100 yards away). The panoramic floor-to-ceiling glass walls mean you will be completely in touch with the desert landscape -- saguaros and other cacti. Quail, rabbits, javenlinas, coyotes will wander by. You will wake up on the bedroom to the sun rising over the Catalina Mountains to the east and can view the sunset over the Tucson Mountains from the dining area.

Just minutes from the house you will be at the entrance to the magnificent Saguaro National Park (West) with endless hiking trails, climbs of varying difficulty, and the not-to-be-missed Sonoran Desert Museum.

All major shopping needs and a major cinema complex less than a five minute drive away. Five minutes also takes you to Hwy. I-10, from which it is a 15 minute drive to the University of Arizona, 20 minutes to downtown Tucson, and about an hour to Phoenix.
