I am a full time potter and an avid outdoor enthusiast. Besides whitewater kayaking and skiing I love to bicycle and have traveled by bike across Australia, New Zealand, England, Tasmania, Ireland, Scottland, Wales, the Isle of Mann and the Northeastern US. I also love to hike and dream of someday getting the tiime to Hike the entire Appliachian Trail as a thru-hiker

Robin Morris purchased this chateau / country house in 1999

The Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania is an outdoor mecca. It boasts the best whitewater kayaking and rafting in the Eastern US, has the longest rails to trail bicycle trail in the states and an amazing array of hiking and mountain biking trails. We are surrounded by 4 State parks and our four ski resorts keep us active for the winter season.Being adjacent to Ohiopyle state park we have a front row seat to all of these things. We are secluded but close enough to the small towns of Confluence and Ohiopyle that anything we need can be easily obtained. In addition, we are located close to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob and these along with the other cultural attractions available just an hour and a half away in PLittsburgh we feel we have the best of all worlds

Wonderful Thanksgiving Getaway

My husband and I stayed at Paddler's Lane Chalet over the Thanksgiving holiday in 2013, and I'm finally getting around to writing a review of Paddler's Lane now that the hub-bub of the holidays are over with. First, we choose Paddler's Lane because we wanted some much-needed rest and relaxation at a location that would be peaceful, serene, and far away from the hustle-bustle. We were not disappointed in our choice with Paddler's Lane. The chalet is gorgeous - the photos truly don't do it justice. And the location right on the river is perfect. The train traffic, while definitely noisy, didn't bother my husband and I. In fact, we found it interesting and a bit of a novelty to watch the trains go whizzing by. We slept just great - the bedroom we used (the river side bedroom) was comfy. The bedroom on the other side of the chalet looked to be equally comfy/cozy. Everything from the bathrooms to the kitchen (and everything in between) was spotless. We didn't meet Robin but we fell in love with Dan. He was/is the perfect host - friendly without being intrusive. As well, he was very attentive to any need. Truly, we can't say enough wonderful things about Dan. We both said that he's the type of guy you'd love to have as a neighbor and hang out with. Just a really good guy. The same goes for the chalet itself - the furniture was all very comfortable, the tvs were great, the fireplace ROCKED (we had wonderful fires every night), and there are a ton of DVD movies to choose from to watch. The area is really charming. Confluence is even smaller than we had anticipated, but again, we loved that. And if you want/need a "larger city", Uniontown is a very short drive away. We went to Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob and had a WONDERFUL time - even a visit late in the season such as our's was super. One last suggestion - go to The Stone House Restaurant and Country Inn for dinner - the food was simply amazing and it's not far of a drive. We will definitely be coming back to Paddler's Lane in the future - we want to explore the beautiful area in the summer or early fall when we can make use of the hiking trails and all the water activities available in the area.

This was my first time staying at Paddler's Lane Bed & Breakfast, I enjoyed myself very much. The location is perfect for hiking & other outdoor activities. I was very impressed with our with room and the hospitality we received. I would love to stay there again when we're in the area.

Great place to get away

We have stayed at Paddler's Lane several times for family reunions as it is about half way between where we live in Maryland and our son who lives in Pittsburgh. We like to cross country ski and the Laurel Highlands are nearby, this chalet makes the perfect place to stay...out of the way but nearby to many activities. It is modern, clean and has a full kitchen. You need to bring all your food supplies as the nearby grocery store is in the small town of Confluence and may not be open when you need it. The chalet has a small out dated TV, which is not a problem for us as we don't go there to watch TV, but if that is important to you, then you will be disappointed. The views of the river are great and the sound of the water mingles with the trains that pass nearby. You will hear the trains any time of day, and the chalet provides ear plugs in the bedrooms if the sounds of trains disturb you. The only suggestion I have is that my husband and I noticed that the matresses can use changing as the bed we slept in is starting to cave in the middle, the first time we noticed that as our backs hurt the next morning. Hopefully there will be new matresses on the beds when we come next time, as there will surely be a next time.

Owner's Response: We always enjoy these folks when they come to stay. Co-incidently the (three year old!) television was replaced with a new wall TV just a few days after their last stay. Free Wifi.....check. Flat screen wall TV......check. New flat screen TV in each bedroom......check.
On another note we do replace our mattresses regularly and will check these again. They are tricky things to figure out as what is perfect for one guest is not quite what another guest is looking for. Amazingly, I get a call or email every month or so asking about the brand of mattress we use because some of our guests think they have the best nights sleep on them they have had for years. We'll continue trying to anticipate our guests needs. They are the reason we are here!

A Perfect Night

I travel a lot for my work and this year it looked like I would not be getting home in time for my anniversary celebration with my very beautiful life partner. She suggested that she could meet me in the Pittsburgh area the day before our Anniversary and we could find a place to relax and celebrate. We found this Chalet and B&B combo owned by Robin right on the Yough River. Robin was very kind and accommodating. The place was isolated, very clean with a great fireplace and stack of wood! Imagine going from not possibly being together - to having a riverside chalet near hiking trails and Falling Water! What a perfect anniversary we shared in front of a blazing fire sipping wine. Thank you Robin!
