Cory and I came to the Big Island for a vacation and fell in love with its tropical beauty and rugged lava terrain. We were welcomed and embraced their Aloha spirit. It is wonderful to be able to pass that spirit on to our guests.
The Owner purchased this house in 2005
The minute we saw it we knew we had to have it. It spoke to our heart and soul.
We love the privacy the surrounding tropical vegetation gives us. We are mesmorized by the array of birds- watching the doves 'dance', the Red Cardinals that come right up our lava wall and sing to us, the crashing of the waves on the lava cliff walls. The most clearest sky with the full moon and stargazing - you can almost touch it. We are in awe of all that surrounds us.
Well, I was just here about 6 months ago and am back to spend another week in a home that feels much like home. It's just a great central location to see the eastern side of the Big Island.
House of Paddles has been made very comfortable with wi-fi and all of the up to date electronics, tv, dvd, cd, etc.... It is a high value home that is well maintained and Cory is right there to answer any questions you may have.
I enjoyed the home the first couple of times and am sure I will enjoy it again in the future. Mahalo, Cory
The house was everything that it was advertised to be on the VRBO site, and we would definitely come again! Cory was very responsive to our needs. We did have a frog right outside our window, and luckily we travel with ear plugs just in case. They were definitely needed!
House of paddles was a awesome fit for us. My wife and I shared the home with our Cousin and it worked out well for the 3 of us we had a lot of room. I have worked 6 days a week year round since 2007 and really wanted a place to lay around and do nothing and this was it. I love too cook and be creative and the kitchen and outside grill allowed me to do that. We ate well. we enjoyed the house and plan to return next year. This is the first house we have rented that I can say I spent 70 % of my time at. no running !!!! just enjoying the home....
House of Paddles was just perfect . With four adult children there was lots of space. It was wonderful to open the doors to the pool area and just sit and relax. The grounds are beautiful. Thank you for letting us stay there.
We were two couples each celebrating a big wedding anniversary (40 and 50 years). The house lived up to the description in every way, it was very peaceful and private. The weather was very hot so the pool became our life saver and the center of our evenings. We love the layout of the house which gave us lots of room to be together or space to sit and read. We even got used to the tree frogs at night. Thank you Cory for sharing our beautiful house with us.
I visit Hawaii several times a year and have always wanted to rent 'House of Paddles'. I finally got my schedule to coinside with the availability of 'House of Paddles' and didn't hesitate to let Cory know that I wanted to stay in his vacation home. Arrangements were made and I began planning a week for myself and a family of four from the UK. We all met at the airport and I followed the instructions that Cory gave us to get to the house.
The house looks just like the photos posted on VRBO. It was beautiful in every way, so open to the outdoors yet private from other homes nearby. The ideal place to spend time with friends. When we arrived we opened the folding doors to the pool area, slid back the doors on the other side of the livingroom and the island breezes made you want to play the ukulele and hula. Even if music and dance aren't your style, you couldn't help but want to give it a try.
The home is without a doubt spacious and the bedroom with the outside shower is across a breezway from the main house. Perfect for an adult 'time-out', if needed. The home was everything I thought it might be and more. I'm glad I finally got the chance to experience such a fun home.
There were five of us, myself, a husband and wife teem along with two young teen sons. We all had plenty of space and we always knew where the boys were, in the pool. The bicycles were used to travel over to the ocean cliffs and ride around a fairly flat neighborhood.
We were always making plans for the next day and many of those days were either in the tide pools or Richardson Park in Hilo. Seems the snorkeling was best at these sites.
We were there over the Labor Day weekend and I would drop the group off in the morning, go grocery shopping, get home with the groceries and then back and make a pick-up at Richardson Park. We often would visit Kohopo and places along the 'red road' which has now been paved with blacktop.
Let me recap for you: Cory, the home owner, is very professional and good to answer your questions/concerns. The home is an enjoyable place like none other. The location is good for both the Puna/Kau side as well as the Hilo and Hamakua Coast. If your plans are good, you can see at least half of the island from this standpoint.
