Come see it for yourself and enjoy its comfort and natural beauty right outside your door!

Wonderful and Unique Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently stayed at the Ferre Cabin located right on the property at the Chena Hot Springs resort. Although not affiliated with the resort you would almost never know. It is right on the property just steps from the parking lot. We had an absolutely wonderful time. I was a smidge worried about the fact that the cabin was dry with no bathroom but it really turned out to not be a huge problem. There are bathrooms all around the resort as well as outhouses. Personally, we found the outhouses a little smelly and yucky (to be assumed) but my husband and I each found a bathroom we preferred. I liked the one in the main lobby/restaurant area and my husband preferred the one in the activity center. Both about only a 1 min walk from the cabin. I think as long as your aware and prepared to live a few days in a cabin without running water it is no big deal at all. The owners provided ample water/sodas and snacks in the cabin- we had also thought ahead and brought some drinks, snacks and small food items of our own which ended up being a real life saver because the one restaurant at the resort can get really busy at meal times. There is also a small café in the activity center that serves strictly frozen food items. There are showers available in the locker rooms that lead to the hot springs and it costs 15$ for a day pass- we brought our own soap/shampoo, etc I cant express enough what a wonderful unique experience we had staying here. We were extremely lucky with the aurora and saw the lights so bright and clear every night we were there. we heard from other hotel guests that the snow cat ride and a night visit to the Aurorium were really extraordinary and beautiful. However, my husband and I prefer to avoid crowds and those activities were extremely crowded. We simply set up the folding chairs provided in the cabin out right in front of the cabin each night and still enjoyed a magnificent light show every night- with the convenience of being able to bop into the cabin to warm up or grab a snack, etc. Due to staying up so late most nights we were content to take a mid morning or afternoon nap most days in the cabin and snuggle up on the EXTREAMLY comfy and HUGE bed and watch one of the many DVD's provided (although all DVD's listed on the reference sheet were not actually there- not a big deal though, there was still an ample selection). Bottom line I would highly recommend this cabin. We had one of the most wonderful times of our lives. Thank you!!

Change in rate

  • 5 of 5

Im really disapointed that the rates for high aurora activity are extended. I come here every year for my anniversay which is march 30th so we would stay at ferree cabin the weekend after for the low aurora activity discount. I love the cabin and look forword to staying every year but with the price gouging I dont think i will be coming back. I feel there should at least be an Alaskan resident discount or the option to rent for one night would be an option.

Great couples Aurora getaway

  • 5 of 5

Snow cat tour ($75 per person) up the hill at night was most excellent! Travis let us pop open the hatch on the cat and stand up for the ride. It was like riding in a tank and manning the turret. The northern lights were amazing from the dark summit. Wait for a clear and cold night though. It was -15 for us. Heated yurks at the top have warm coco and top Raman to warm you up free of charge! Lights danced above us wildly at 1:50am so be ready to stay up and on the look out.

The springs were nice and the facility was clean overall. We were surprised at how reasonable the prices were for a captive audience. They really make you want to come back. Dining was like a rustic lodge but great fresh veggies grown onsite in green houses. We will be back someday again from Florida. This place was worth the trip.

Nice cabin but over-priced and lacks storage

  • 3 of 5

On the positive side, the cabin in very nice, clean, and comfortable. We would have two reservations about staying there again, however. The first is the cost for what you get. We stayed for two nights in July 2013. The two-night total came to $336, including all the various add-on fees. This seemed excessive for such a small cabin with no running water. In addition, we had to pay $15 per day per person (not $10 as the VRBO site says) to use the bathing facilities, for a total of $60 on top of the cabin rental. The second problem is that there is no storage space, i.e., no closets or drawers; and nearly all the surfaces in the cabin are packed with the owner's belongings. There is just no space to put your stuff.

A Beautiful Cabin at a Great Resort

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this cabin at a perfect time of the year in Alaska. The one-room space is bright and tastefully appointed. It was warm, clean, and located right on the hot springs property. I will recommend this fantastic cabin to anyone who wants to stay in a private spot that is quiet, yet right in the middle of ALL the action at Chena Hot Springs Resort.

Ferree Cabin

  • 3 of 5

The cabin experience was so much better than we thought it would be. Even with the no water problem, it was not so bad. It is beautiful, the bed is so comfortable and the scenery the best. I think we had the best place in the whole resort. Thanks Denise, Kathy and John Harding
