Maine native. Grew up on a lake in Maine and wanted to recreate my childhood for my children.
We put a lot of thought into the location of our vacation home and this is a secret gem. I grew up in Maine and never knew these lakes/ponds existed. Close to EVERYTHING. Beach, Boston, Outlets, Airports, Restaurants, Antiquing, Amusement Parks.... we were looking for a property on a private lake (no campgrounds, no public boat launch). Water quality was a major priority (everyone comments on how crystal clear it is) and we had to be on the East shoreline for the fantastic Maine Sunsets (you have direct sunshine for more of the day). Being situated in the middle of the lake provides views of the entire lake so you can always keep an eye on your kids. A smaller lake means the water never gets too choppy and is typically warmer than a large lake.
The views are spectacular. There's nothing like waking up, sitting on the deck with a coffee and listening to the wind and the loons... well, taking a nap in the hammock (listening to the wind and loons) is pretty special too.
