Anchorage boasts the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, great restaurants, namely Glacier Brewhouse, Orso, Sacks, Simon and Seafort's, Crush, offering fresh fish caught in Alaska waters and vegetables grown in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. And my favorite breakfast at Snow City Cafe!

About Michele Palatas

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I moved to Alaska in 1998 to work in Deadhorse-Prudhoe Bay, in the Arctic on the Beaufort Sea. I quickly became enchanted with this beautiful place we call Alaska! If you love the outdoors, this is the place!

Michele Palatas purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Michele Palatas chose Anchorage

I purchased this duplex in 2002 along with two more, and made four of the units, fully furnished guesthouses. You may rent both the Cottage (912285) and the Cabin if you require more room. Since then I have had the pleasure of welcoming guests from all over the world to our city nestled between Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountains.

What makes this cabin unique

The convenience of being near to downtown and midtown, the Seward Highway heading south and the Glenn Highway heading north, make this a perfect location to get out and experience Anchorage and nearby attractions. The two cottages in the back, The Cabin and The Cottage (912285) are only one of two in all of Anchorage. Built in 1951 to accommodate personnel at the first airstrip, Merrill Field, they have been completely renovated in the past couple years, and the Cabin and Cottage are now quite cute and comfortable.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much Michele. This has been one of my most relaxing yet busy trips I have taken in a long time. I love your place. It is so cozy and warm. It has been delightful.

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5
Michelle was prompt at getting back to me with the various questions. The cabin was sooo much better than any hotel we could have stayed in. Very clean, efficient and close to downtown. She also allowed us a late check out due to our departure time. Highly recommend this place.

Wonderful stay in Anchorage

  • 5 of 5
The Cabin is a wonderful property 5 minutes drive from downtown Anchorage. My husband and I stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in this cozy, super clean, very well equipped property. Michelle was very easy to work with and so welcoming upon our arrival. She has thought of everything to make your stay memorable. The fresh flowers and lindor truffles were an especially nice touch and greatly appreciated. The location is just a few blocks off the AK 1 which is the main north-south highway through Anchorage making it ideal for exploring the downtown area, the Palmer-Wasilla-Eagle River areas, as well as south to Seward. Fred Meyers grocery store, book stores, movie theaters, restarurants are all within a 5 minute drive. I would highly recommend this convenient and quiet residentiall property over a hotel room since there is more space to move around in and it is certainly more relaxing. We also enjoyed sitting outside to enjoy the delightful evenings when the weather cleared and we could see beautiful blue skies. An ideal set up for a couple.

Charming cottage with many thoughtful touches

  • 5 of 5
The cottage's owner, Michele, is responsive and accommodating from booking to check out. My brother and I (we're in our late 30s and early 40s) only were able to spend four days in Anchorage and wanted the space and convenience of a rental property over a hotel room. This cottage served as a very comfortable, convenient "home-away" from home with so many helpful supplies and charming touches, like fresh flowers, travel guides, and food in the fridge! The cottage is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, positioned about 10 miles away from the airport (a cheap taxi ride away or short car ride away) and less than two miles away from Anchorage's downtown. This one-bedroom cottage is simple, but smartly remodeled and well-maintained. It avoids that dinginess that some rental properties quickly acquire. Its floor plan is efficient with plenty of window space and a sense of openness to the living room (with sofa-futon) and kitchen. The cottage's kitchen is thoughtfully stocked with basic foods, dining supplies, and appliances, and the small, tidy bathroom has an abundance of towels. A charming property that pleases even finicky travelers!

Comfy, cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5
Michele is awesome. We had absolutely no issues with our stay at the cabin. This is a great little duplex, recently renovated. There was never a shortage of hot water, and the washer and dryer were very convenient. A full sized fridge was also a plus. We rarely watched the TV and just enjoyed our quiet time. It is located in a quiet neighborhood. Thanks Michele for making this such a great trip for us. When we head back to Anchorage, I will definitely choose one of your places again!

Excellent Vacation Property

  • 5 of 5
Michele was great to work with. She was easy to deal with and responded quickly to every inquiry. We arrived early, about 1 o'clock, and had no trouble getting inside. The place was very well taken care of and was spotless. She had fresh flowers on the bar and juice, coffee, yogurt, and coffee cake in the fridge. Those extras show how much she cares. Michele checked in on us during our trip to make sure we had everything we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked with about everything you would need to prepare meals. There were plenty of towels and rags for both the bathroom and the kitchen. There was not anything that we really needed that was not provided. Having a washer and dryer on site was wonderful and allowed us to travel light, Everything was as described in the listing only better. She has taked very good care of the place. The location was close to downtown, shopping, groceries, and restaurants. The neighborhood was quiet and I felt safe. Our plane left at about 1 in the morning so Michele let us use the cabin all day instead of insisting we be out at the normal checkout time. This is not something she can do all the time as it depends on when her next guests will be arriving, but it show her willingness to work with her guests to make their stay as pleasant as possible. I will definately be getting in contact with her again should our travels send us back to Anchorage and have already recommended her the cabin to two of my friends.

A very comfortable home away from home

  • 5 of 5
I spent a week at this property while vacationing in Alaska. The place was very comfortable, clean, and well taken care of. The property manager communicated well through the whole process and was super quick to respond to any questions and needs. The bed was comfortable, the property was clean, and the location is convenient. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to a friend.
