This beautiful home is located in one of Arcata's best locations on a hilltop at the edge of town with a sunset bay view. It's close to town, yet removed enough for quiet and privacy. The great room is spacious and comfortable with a wall of windows overlooking the majestic redwoods. One of the most intriguing features is the unique hot tub solarium with surround views of the redwoods. This is a wonderful space for relaxing family vacations and reunions.
Sleeping arrangements include two queen beds, two full beds, and three twin beds. There are two couches and plenty of floor space for pads. Three bedrooms are on the street level and two are downstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped w/oven, stove, microwave, full refrigerator and freezer, and pots and pans.
Arcata is central to all that the north coast has to offer: Redwood National and State Parks, Fern Canyon, Trinidad beaches, the Lost Coast, and several pristine rivers and mountain ranges. Ask us about local tours and inland river rafting/kayaking.
You may review short videos of Arcata Redwood Vacation Rental on you tube or vimeo and more pictures on our Facebook page, Arcata Redwood Hideaway. Come soak in the hot tub solarium as you gaze out into your own private grove of giant redwoods and you will be glad you made the choice of this magical place.
We are an adventurous couple who love to travel and explore~ Sam, a photographer, Mitzi, a masseuse/wellness consultant and river guide. We spend most of our summers on the Trinity River.
Sam Camp and Mitzi Reed purchased this house in 2006
This house feels like a private redwood retreat, overlooking a redwood grove on two sides and the Arcata Bay in the west. It is in a quiet neighborhood, private, yet close to town. The backyard is a redwood grove, and the front yard gets enough sun for the garden. It really feels like a treehouse retreat in the redwood canopy, yet it is close to everything you'd want to see and do on the beautiful north coast.
Relaxation is probably it's best benefit. We love coming here to cool off on the coast in the summer. The great room is spacious, with picture windows facing the redwoods. Best of all is the relaxing hot tub, where you can open all the windows in the solarium to feel like you're outside with the big trees. The room feels like a treehouse. A great place to relax after exploring the local national and state redwood and beach parks. Five to ten minute drive to shops and restaurants, but without the noise of downtown.
Thanks for a wonderful week in the redwoods and for a lovely place to gather and explore the area's beauty. We hope to return again sometime in the future.
I traveled from Ashland with a group of girlfriends last May to run the Avenue of the Giants marathon and we stayed 3 nights in this awesome house. As we make plans for next May, I'm inspired to write a review. The hot tub surrounded by trees is so memorable; and the open kitchen & living room area is perfect for hanging out in the evening. I'd like to return to this home and bring my family as now I realize how much there is to do and see in the Arcata area. Thank you for a great place to stay!
We just got back from 10 days at this lovely home. We had five in our group, including myself (mom) with two college age and two elementary kids. Best part of the home is the very large and open kitchen/great room/dining area. The wall of windows overlooking the redwood grove and the bay view while dining was spectacular.
Kitchen was adequate, everything we needed (except perhaps a knife sharpener) to whip up several meals. After going to the farmer's market-an event in itself-we gave the kitchen quite a work out. Also a nice grocery about 3 minutes away.
The décor is simple, with many nice pieces of artwork on the walls. Perhaps the third upstairs bedroom could have used a chest of drawers, but the college kids lived out of a suitcase, so no big deal for us. Five slept comfortably without even using the other two bedrooms downstairs.
You will be close to everything: redwood parks, beaches, Eureka for dining, minutes to the marsh-perfect location.
We loved the place and hope to be back!
My wife and I rented this home a year ago and I am just getting around to writing the review now. We were intending to use the home for a small family reunion (her parents and mine (65 years +). First, and this is really a big deal, the house is not wheelchair accessible. There is a 4 inch step to enter the front door. This may as well be the Rubicon for someone wheelchair bound. Thankfully our friend had a ramp that we could use to get up over this lip, and once inside, the house is wheelchair savvy. I would highly recommend to the owners to add a permanent ramp, or make this issue clear to guests. Indeed the single most important reason we chose this home was its accessibility and luckily because of our friend, it all worked out.
Secondly, less of an issue, but worth noting, not all of the beds are beds. The one downstairs is a futon. This is fine, but for my 70 year old in-laws and parents, not ideal, so it would have been nice to know ahead of time.
Otherwise the house is great. It feels a bit like a Tahoe ski shack yet it's in Arcata, modest furnishings, tapestries on the wall, etc. It would be a perfect house for a graduation party or the like. We enjoyed our stay.
Our thanks to Mitzi and Sam for providing us with the perfect location to celebrate our son's graduation from HSU. The view is beautiful, the home comfortable, and the hot tub an added plus. When asked if the house had a gas grill (it didn't), they got one for us! We hope to return one day to this peaceful house with a view.
We came from Galt, Napa, San Francisco, and Seattle to this fantastic home in the Redwoods to celebrate my sons graduation from HSU!
It was perfect for a family gathering & celebration. The two rooms downstairs were great for my niece, nephew, and their two young children. The upstairs was very spacious and the view into the forest gave us the feeling we were staying in a treehouse!
The owner was incredibly helpful & very patient with me & my many questions.
We would definately stay again & recommend this home to friends.
This place is great for a large group of people. The view is beautiful from the living room. The five bedrooms give enough space to spread out. It is on a cul de sac which is great for kids. We had two Elk visit us the second evening that we were there. It is almost the top of a hill and there is a great little walk very close by to enjoy the forest. The two bathrooms can be a bottleneck if you have a big group but the kitchen is well equipped with enough dishes, cutlery, bowls and cooking utensils. There are two gorgeous beaches (the sand goes on forever) within 10 miles of the house, one towards Eureka and one towards the north.
This house is perfect for visitors who want to see the REDWOODS! It is IN the redwoods, and it has a view! Right at the south edge of town, the world famous bird watching destination, The Arcata Marsh, offers short, easy hiking trails. It is a five minute drive from the house and can be seen from our bay view window. Our coastline offers pristine beaches, where agates can be found and sea life can be seen. Redwood National Park, Fern Canyon, The Lost Coast, Trinidad and the Trinity River, are just a few of several nearby places to visit. Arcata is central to it all, and it has much to offer in the way of small town entertainment and cafes and restaurants. Arcata has a great COOP and a lively all-organic Saturday Farmer's Market. The old theater is revived, now the Arcata Theater Lounge, and matinees can still be found at the old Minor Theater. Enjoy some sushi, gourmet homemade ice cream or New York Bagels in Arcata.
