We have been visiting this beautiful area of the country for many years mainly our riding motorcycles at DEALS GAP (THE DRAGON) and the beautiful challenging mountain roads nearby.
Carolyn purchased this lodge in 2009
We enjoy the natural beauty of this area and feel so relaxed when we arive. Having stayed locally in private cabins we decided this was the place for us to return year after year with our family & friends escaping the heat & humidity of Florida. We love the dramatic changes each season brings to the Mountain scenery and all the area has to offer for all types. We have thoroughly enjoyed the last two winters snow skiing at OBER Gatlinburg (perfect for beginners and intermediates). We hope you're able to make SUNSET LODGE a regular retreat from the fast paced world we find ourselves nowadays.
If theres just two of you you'll enjoy being on one level and the spa bath in the master bathroom is ideal for massaging away aches & pains. If there's more the privacy of having a further 2 king master bedrooms with private ensuite bathrooms and living room/loft on the upper level works well. All have space to stretch out and relax.. The 4th family bathroom off the main level living area is handy too as is the Desk Nook for those who wish to bring thier lap tops, write their journals or just stay organized. We have furnished the lodge for comfort and convenience. Keeping the natural feel of the Mountains with its 'all wood ' construction (no drywall here), Ledgestone fireplace, Travertine stone/ wood floors and modern bamboo blinds it feels wonderful.
Sky Harbor : a sought after mountain location/resort with paved roads (steep) Its so peaceful here yet only a short drive to everything Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg have to offer.
We've rented a lot of cabins in the Smokies over the years. Most of them look a little tired but are still OK. Sunset Lodge, though not huge, was by far the nicest one we've ever stayed in. The extra decorating touches the owners have put into this cabin give it such a homey feeling. We also prefer to rent directly from the owner rather than property management companies. We didn't go to do all the tourist stuff. We went to spend time together as a family over Thanksgiving, hit some of our favorite spots and just relax so we spent a lot of time cooking, relaxing in the hot tub, watching football etc.
It snowed a little on Thanksgiving Day which we loved. The beds were ultra comfortable. My little dog was even comfortable (we never left her alone though.). Wifi worked great as did cable TV. Nothing like snuggling up to the gas fireplace, watching the Macy's Day parade with a turkey in the oven and the scenery of the Smokies. It was a little hard to find after dark and our GPS's tended to disagree but we always found it eventually. There are some steep roads in that area. I recommend coming in during daylight the first time.
I hope we can go and stay there again on our next trip. Thank you Carolyn for the swift email responses and hospitality. You're very fortunate to have such a lovely vacation home.
The Sunset Lodge did indeed meet our expectations! The owner was very pleasant to work with and answered all of our questions. She is very personable and friendly! We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to our friends. There was plenty of room for the six of us. The cabin was tastefully decorated, the beds were very comfortable, and the our family enjoyed the pool table and the hot tub! It was so nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy our meals or read on the deck. It was a quick 15 to 20 min drive to Gatlinburg or Sevierville. We enjoyed boating on Douglas Lake, putt putting at Hill Billy golf, horseback riding at Sugarland Stables in the Smoky's, and white water rafting. We also spent a day in the Smoky's going to Clingman's Dome. What a beautiful site to see. We ate at Cherokee Grill in Gatlinburg on our last night. It was fabulous. The food was terrific from the appetizers to dessert! Would highly recommend this restaurant!
My husband and I, our 90 year old uncle and another couple had the pleasure of staying here for 5 nights over the 4th of July holiday. We were thrilled to be able to sit outside on the deck early in the morning enjoying the sunrise, reading our books and having a morning coffee. In the late afternoon after touring the area (so much to do and so close by!) we were able to relax in the hot tub and unwind from a busy day. So peaceful here, wish we had built in a day of doing nothing but hanging out at the cabin; oh well next time! Will keep this cabin on our favorites list for our next trip to TN.
The beds were heavenly, the cabin had everything we needed to have a great time. We loved the front porch and really everything about the cabin. The only problem was the road to get there! The width of the road was just for one car and yet it was two-way traffic. There were times when driving the road that you could not see beyond your hood because the road was so steep! At one point we met someone coming down the mountain and we were going up. We had to back DOWN THE HILL so they could get past because there was no room for us. We quickly decided that we would not be going out at night, which interfered with our plans to go to Pigeon Forge at night for dinner. We stopped at the grocery (during the day!) and stocked up and stayed inside at night playing cards. If we could have plucked up the cabin and put it on a better road we would have really enjoyed our stay so much better. We did sleep great and have fun family time though!
This is a wonderful place to spend a few days or weeks in the tranquil and idyllic Tennessee countryside. Surrounded by wonderful vistas, this beautiful house stays true to its surroundings while offering a modern flair.
The property was exceptionally well kept, modern appliances throughout and very nicely furnished.
After hearing what the mountains had to offer,my wife and I decided to at some short notice book a week away from everything for some rest and relaxation.
After booking and deciding to take our own vehicle, we make it in to a roadtrip to enjoy travelling through other states also.
We arrived at Sunset Lodge and immediately encountered the wonderful clean air,it was breathtaking, relaxing and peaceful.
Inside, the cabin had all the things that you come accustomed to at home, cable, flat t.v.s and modern kitchen appliances, well appointed, very tastefully decorated,in keeping with the theme.
The cabin had plenty of quality cutlery and crockery for the stay plus the Tempur beds helped my back a great deal,I always dread a bed that won't comform and I end up on the couch.Cleanliness was also good all over cabin, and more than enough bathrooms for the morning rush.
Outside, the fun started with the hot tub, cover was off and I was looking out over the hill/mountains and resting my back from the roadtrip, fantastic.
As far as the two/three towns to visit,Pigeon Forge,Gatlinburg and Sevier we seemed equidistant from all three.
We managed to visit a different restaurant every day, plus each town/city had duplicate restaurants,so if your favorite one was full, you could go 3 miles to the next cities restaurant,no problem. All of the big names restaurants are there, plus a few local ones which suprised us.You are spoilt for choice.
My wife even had me mining for gems in Gatlinburg,it was fun.
There are also several trails ranging from half mile upwards you can walk on.
Next time we will try the ski lift etc.
We were that busy chilling out,we didn't even have time to visit some of the attractions, but I am sure we will as we will be definitely returning in the Fall.
Theme Park - Dollywood and Splash Country Waterpark (May-Sept), TITANIC, Major Outlet Malls and Retail Shopping, Crafts, Go Carts, Downhill Skiing with Ski Lift over Gatlinburg, Scenic Chair Lift from downtown Gatlinburg, Live Theater including China Acrobats, Dixie Stampede & The Miracle
