Rustic look/feel, modern plumbing
Cute little simple cabin, a couple hundred feet back from the main road. Had all we needed for a quiet new-years' getaway.
Things to note: when attempting to find this place, do NOT use the address given in the document provided by the owners. Not only is the house number not visible from the street, but the street name given can't be found in this area by Google maps, Mapquest, or a relatively new Garmin. All you need to know, to find this place succinctly and directly is the mile marker shown in the photo (in the document sent by the owners). That's it.
The photos are accurate, although there are simple tab curtains on most windows now. Enough light in all rooms. Everything we needed was easily findable.
Communication with owner(s) was decent, except for confusing directions (above) and one email that fell through the cracks.
My wife and I are new to renting cabins, so some of this may seem obvious to veterans...
The cabin was supplied with all the kitchenware we needed, fridge, 4-burner gas stove, toaster, microwave, coffee-maker, even some seasonings (nice touch). Plenty of bed linens, 4 towels (though we brought some per owner's advice). Satellite dish & TV worked fine. Couple of board games in the base of the TV stand. Also there was a shovel & broom for the front stairs.
Hot & cold running water, indoor bathroom with shower, no tub.
Less than the distance to the street is the distance from the back of the house to a snowmobile trail which leads with adequate signage to one of the main trails. Follow the yellow caution tape on the trees - you'll find it. Great for walking the dogs. Plenty of deer tracks found.
Less than 5-10 minutes drive in either direction gets you convenience stores, gas stations, restaurants, and a snowmobile rental place that accommodated us on short notice. (Saw about 10 deer on 4-hour rental!)
The only real bummer was that the queen size bed in the larger bedroom was (mattress & boxspring) on the floor, which was odd, since it looked like the frame was folded up in the (unheated) mudroom. The mattress was in aged, used, forlorn condition and should get replaced. Extremely uncomfortable. For the last two nights of our stay, we opted for the fold-out couch in the living room, which was more comfortable.
The only other nit-picky thing was that the heater (wall-hugging, tall, gas-fired) was loud. But since it worked just fine, and was the only source of heat, I didn't want to jinx it.
