Overview

St George Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 bed/2 baths, screened porch-open deck, most rooms offer great waterfront views

This home sits on north side of road, high on the bluff overlooking St. George Sound. We have 250 feet of private bayfront on south side with a large grassy area and palm trees. The property has shallow water for about 400-500 feet out. The property sits on four acres and backs up to the National forest. We have a large screened in pool,(can be heated in those cool months), and a great octagon shaped deck for sunbathing when you decide not to beach it. There is also a nice screened in area with great views of The Sound as well. St. George Island and the small towns of Carrabelle, Eastpoint, and Apalachicola are just minutes away and offer good seafood restaurants, grocery stores, small shops, and fresh seafood markets.

There are three bedrooms, two with queen beds and one with twin beds. There is seating at the kitchen bar, separate dining room, and in the screened porch area. Kitchen has stainless two door frig, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and ceramic cooktop. Living area has a large flat screen TV and also flat screen in master bedroom. There is also a sitting area off the master. Both bathrooms have walk-in ceramic tile showers.

If renting in fall, winter, or spring, ask if the pool can be heated and the fee.

If you are a golfer, the St. James Bay Golf Course is only about 20 minutes away. It is a world class golf course and the areas only Audubon Signature Sanctuary.

Wildlife and marinelife are plentiful. We are also one of Florida's great fishing areas. Whether its fresh water, bay and flats fishing, or off-shore, a day on the water is usually a successful day. Guests can catch a variety of species of fish including redfish, speckled trout, flounder, spanish mackeral and so much more right out in front of the house. However, if you would like a guide to take you out, there are numerous great captains in Carrabelle and Apalachicola. There are also boats and sailboats available to rent if you want to have your own journey. We have several docks on the New River in Carrabelle that can also be used for your convenience and pleasure. The New River is very beautiful and quiet and makes a great place to relax and enjoy the wildlife.

Our home is just outside of the town of Eastpoint. The Eastpoint waterfront is filled with small seafood houses. Lots of oyster boats and shrimp boats line the waterfront. The seafood markets offer fresh shrimp, fish (grouper, snapper, flounder, mullet), oysters, scallops, blue crab, and more.

Places of interest: Oyster Capital of the World, Eastpoint; Layayette Park, Apalachicola; Chapman Botanical Gardens, Apalachicola; Orman House built in 1838, Apalachicola National Estuary Research Reserve; St. Vincent National Park Museum; John Gorrie Museum; St. George Island State Park; St. George Island Lighthouse/Cape St. George Light; World's Smallest Police Station, Carrabelle; Crooked River Lighthouse, Carrabelle; Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum; Walt G. Kendrick Dwarf Cypress Boardwalk, and much much more.

About Aaron Wray

This is Jeanne and David, owners. (Aaron is our son and rents our vacation rental homes) David and I have lived in this area many years. Most the time on St. George Island. Now we live on the mainland, just down the road from this property. Aaron also lives here. When St. George Island became too crowded for us, we chose properties like this one for our privacy. We are currently on Magnolia Bluff; however, we truly will enjoy this property during a few weeks this fall and winter. (that's the prettiest time to us. In addition, I love to fish, and some of the best fishing in the area is just out front this property. You'll see charter captains bringing there charters to this area.

Aaron Wray purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Aaron Wray chose St George Island

Again, we love this property because of it's beauty. It sits on four beautiful acres and backs up to the National Forests. AND, our waterfront is VERY private. Not only is the fishing good, but you never know what you'll find when you walk out on the sand when the tide goes out. And if you like nature and animals, you might see deer, raccoons, plenty of birds, eagles, osprey, owls, squirrels, dolphins, (ofcourse) and if you're lucky, a black bear or two. (usually in late fall and winter) Florida also has snakes, so if walking the forests, parks, estuaries, or any area really, just watch where you step. We are in their environment.

What makes this cottage unique

You can do it all right here. Fish for trout, reds, whiting, flounder, etc. Net or trap blue crab. Swim in either the fresh water screened pool or St. George Sound. Sunbath next to the waterfront or on your private deck. Keep your kayak/canoe right there on the beach area. Go shelling or hiking through the hiking trails in the National Forest that surrounds you. Also, the sign leading to the dwarf Cyprus forest is less than a mile west of you.

Natural Florida environment & privacy with modern ammenities and conveniences

My wife and I (and we took our dog) stayed a week. It was a wonderful way to get away and truely relax. Property is nestled in a wooded area right on the bay. If you like to see wildlife in their natural habitat or stargaze, you must consider staying here. Carrabelle & Eastpoint are both very close (only a couple of minutes down the road) for picking up items you might need or grabbing a bite if you want to eat out. In addition to the bay out the front door with a small private beach, several large beaches and historic lighthouses are also a short drive away. The kitchen is very well equipped and all the furnishings comfortable so if you dont want to go our, there is no reason to leave. The house was very clean and looked to be newly painted. The property is well maintaned; i.e., lawn and pool service each came by for care and cleaning. Of course having the private, screened pool just a couple steps away is a major plus. We had an enjoyable stay and look forward to going back.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5
Absolutely wonderful! Great house! Great location! Aaron was very helpful, easy to work with and always available if needed. When we didn't have a blender, he dropped a new one off within the hour. Also got the chance to meet his dad and he was very easy to talk to and offered all kinds of interesting information about the area. Access to the beach is convenient. Close enough to anything but far enough from everything. Loved it! Definitely going back.

GREAT PEOPLE, GREAT VIEW,GREAT FUN FOR ALL

  • 5 of 5
Hey, Aaron is the greatest! He was available at any time.
He even went miles down the road to get my wife an ironing board even tho we told him we could get by.
This at 10:00 pm even.
Great view, great pool, not a bug bite all week. We had great fun fishing even tho it was cooler water than when we have been there before.
Again Aaron and Jeanne are a pure pleasure to work with.
This is our fourth or fifth rental with them, and we are returning later this month to their big house at Hidden Beach for the third time.
The ultimate for LARGE family or several couples.
I'm in the phone book if you want more info from a very satisfied customer.

Beautiful Home!

  • 4 of 5
We stayed at this home for our spring break this year. We enjoyed the easy access to either St. George Island or Carabelle beach as this home is located right in between both beaches. We enjoyed walking the private beach area across Hwy 98 in the evenings. The property manager, Aaron, was very accomendating. He was always close by, in the apartment on the property, and willing to recommend restaurants, fishing areas, or lend a helping hand. The house could have been at little cleaner. Sand under rugs, dirty dishes, dog hair from previous renters everywhere. All in all, a beautiful home, close to beaches, and shopping. We had a great week!

The house sits on four acres on north side of road on the hill offering fantastic views of St. George Sound from almost every room. There is 250 feet bayfront on south side of road. The enclosed pool overlooks the bay and can be heated for an additional charge. You have your own small beach area with shallow water for several hundred feet out offering lots of fun for children swimming and shelling, and good fishing and sunbathing for the adults. In addition the beaches of St. George Island and Carrabelle are just minutes away. And be sure to visit the historic town of Apalachicola with it's great restaurants, quaint little shops, eco tours, and historic homes. You'll also want to make a trip to the Florida Estuary Research Center with tanks of all the marinelife indigenous to our area and a trip up the Wakulla River at Wakulla Springs State Park is just 40 minutes away. The park ranger will take your family for about an hour trip ($8 currently for adults) up this beautiful crystal clear river to see lots of gators, turtles, birds, fish, and beautiful vegetation. (The Old Florida) AND some of the manatees have been staying there year round recently. After your trip, go for a swim in this beautiful spring. (I believe the largest in Florida) If in July or August, bring you snorkel gear for scallop season. You may have luck snorkeling right there.
