Artist built suite in the second story of a timber frame barn. You have your own balcony and get to stay on a working farm that has been turned into an art studio. I am the artist and on this land I have restored old historic farm out buildings that dot the lawn making the place look like a park one would stroll in 100 years ago. People always say the place has a wonderful nostalgic quality and that people feel a tremendous sense of peace here. There are old horse wagons and lots of garden art for those that love to wander in gardens. The place has a whimsical nature and people come from all over to see the place and buy garden art items that I sell. I bought the place 16 years ago and decided for the first time to carve out some space for people to vacation here. The suite consists of a large bedroom with accomodations that are wonderful and newly decorated with antiques. There is an attached bathroom with a toilet and a sink. For showering I turned one of the buildings that is closest to the suite into an enclosed outside shower. However, should you want there is a clawfoot tub and shower in the main residence that is more than ok to use. The place is very relaxed and truly believe once you come once you will want to return. This place is not for everyone but it is definitely a find for those who tend to live some form of alternative life style.
It is perfect for couples or a single person. It is very romantic and there is nothing like sipping a glass of your favorite drink on the balcony at dusk or coffee at dawn.
We are in the midst of wine country and close to the Hamptons, and Shelter Island as well. Great for bikers and kayakers.
Also close to train and Jitney.
Keywords: A suite built above a gorgeous barn on a farm that is also an art studio. Very Bohemian and artsy.
As described above I am a left over hippy that never grew up thus I have built this compound of little houses to play and decorate. I am an artist and an animal lover although I only have 2 cats right now because the property while it sits way back is on rural main road. I love to meet new people, travel, and love to have fun.
I love that it is such a wonderful place to bike or kayak since all roads lead to water and breathtaking views of unspoiled country. The wetlands are my favorites with all the fawn and flora they attract. I also like being so close to Shelter Island, only a 10 minute ferry away. Here is a magical place to explore and go to the Nature Preserve which takes up most of the small island. Bring sunflower seeds because the chickadees will eat right out of your hand. It gives you quite a rush to feel the wild in your hands.
We are in the center of wine tasting surrounded by vineyards, there is Splish Splash a water park within 15 minutes. We have a Sea Aquarium that brings many visitors. Lots of antique shops and every weekend one of the nearby towns has some kind of festival going on from the Strawberry Festival in June to the Maritime Festival in Greenport. The best thing about this property is that it is a one of a kind place for the traveler that likes adventure and has a bit of the bohemian in them. Additionally, the fact that we are so close to the Hamptons you get the best of both worlds; the serene beauty that comes with the rural nature of old farms and the Long Island Sound as well as wetlands everywhere you turn. But if the white sandy beaches of the Hamptons allure you they are only a fifteen minute ride away bypassing all traffic that comes with staying there.
