This is the first property for AWOL, a boutique vacation rental brand. To get away from your life for just a minute and let us provide you with a beautiful place in which to escape.
This is a very private retreat of a house located in the historic neighborhood of Ruth Hardy Park. You will find yourself a few blocks from the Frank Sinatra house, tons of great architecture, one mile from the design district and great restaurants.
The house is 1800 square feet. The furnishings and art is an eclectic collection of designers and artists including: Florence Knoll, Mies Van Der Rohe, Eames, Mario Bellini, Arne Jacobson, Noguchi, Deedee Cheriel, Steven Harrington, and us!!
Each of the two bedrooms have king sized beds with top of the line Stearns & Foster mattresses and ample closet space. Roll out of bed and walk right out on to the pool and spa.
There are two full baths, each bathed in sunlight. The grand bath features double sinks and a large, tiled, indoor/outdoor shower with three sources of water: a standard shower head, a hand held shower head, and a 16” rain shower.
CHEFS! there is a beautiful, very well appointed kitchen waiting for your indoor and outdoor cooking talents to shine!!! Double oven and five burner range, BBQ grill, gorgeous Fisher Paykel refrigerator with in-door filtered water, ice maker in the freezer, and plenty more.
Surrounded by bamboo, the pool is a perfect place to cool in the heat of the day. Soak up some rays in the pool’s sun pad, while the waters from the infinity spa cascade over your shoulders. Lounge by the fire pit and count stars. Soak the day away in your 10 person spa. Feeling antsy? Negotiate yourself around the spa’s jet circuit and massage every part of your back—this is why you went AWOL!!! In the winter, the pool can be heated. There is truly nothing like floating in a body of water, while gazing at snow-capped mountains!
Palm Springs gets an average of 354 days of sunshine a year; greet each new day by rolling right out of bed, out your private entry to the pool, and dive in to your morning!. Follow that with a rain shower in the indoor/ outdoor shower and you are very ready to tackle your vacation!
The outdoor speakers by the pool and outdoor dining/ BBQ area will make entertaining fun and easy.

Coming from Los Angeles, each of us respectively work in art direction and set decoration for film, tv and print. We both come from a philosophy of 'undecorate', putting a focus on function and comfort above a mass of stuff. We want to share that here in the open skies of the desert and provide a space that is extremely comfortable, luxuriously livable, and aesthetically interesting without being overly 'done'.
The Owner purchased this house in 2011
We chose Palm Springs because of the comfort it provides us, the small towness of it, warm smiles from friendly people, easy driving with no metered parking (coming from LA, this is like a daily massage!), a natural landscape just beyond the city that is other worldly and sublime...all this with the benefits of restaurants, bars, museums, culture, shopping, and more that feels straight from the city.
Things we love:
the sky is amazing and never lets you down. during the day, there is almost always some cloud form drama making its way across the sky...we joke it's some sort of UFO camouflage, but that's for you to decide. you can see countless stars from the hot tub! And every sunset behind the mountain leaves us breathless.
Lemonade made fresh from the meyer lemon tree!...and a splash of vodka?
we love a morning swim in the pool, a massage at the house with a rain shower in the indoor/ outdoor shower after, and warming in the evening next to the fire pit.
Ruth Hardy Park is a fabulous walking neighborhood with easy walking to groceries, coffee, window shopping and pizza and a glass of wine from Birba.
And all the glorious hikes in the area!!!
Comfortable, well-equipped, lovely, well-cared-for home is located in the Movie-Colony district, very close to the design district, restaurants, and shops. This home's garden and pool area, surrounded by palm trees and a tall bamboo hedge, are extremely private and so relaxing.
Adam is a pleasure to deal with and is very attentive to every detail; his effort to make our stay excellent was amazing! We enjoyed the location and its proximity to gorgeous hikes in Indian Canyon: Palm Canyon jaunt is a must and if it's not too hot and you have a few hours - consider Fern Canyon.
We would absolutely recommend this beautiful home and would love to visit again!
We just returned from a two week stay at this great house. We loved the fact that we could walk downtown for coffee, many restaurants, and shopping. The rooms in this home are very good sized. One bathroom is away from the bedrooms, but we quickly got over that! I can't say enough about Adam and his desire to make your stay comfortable and problem free. I highly recommend this house!
This home is a gem! Elegantly and simply appointed with a funky twist. It is light and pristine. Our stay was almost 3 weeks and we loved every minute. The home is a lazy walk to the main shopping street, cafes and bars. Adam is an amazing person. He is very prompt in responses to requests and any problems.
We are happy to recommend this home and would love to stay there again!!!!
My partner and I had the awesome opportunity to get away from LA to the desert for a few days. After viewing this home and the reviews we could not resist. Adam was attentive and kind through the entire scheduling process. He made it easy and efficient. The home is perfect. Clean, comfy and ready for you to just simply relax. The home is spacious and perfect for a get away where you enjoy the warm desert evenings inside or out. The home has everything you need, and is very clean and modern. Just our styles. The outdoor space is very private and perfect to relax in day or night. You will not be disappointed!!! We plan to come back during the winter months. A MUST STAY! :)
We (married couple, 4 year old) had SUCH a fabulous, relaxing time at AWOL! The decor of the house is inspiring (variety of eclectic art pieces, library of interesting and fitting books about the desert, Keroac, etc.) The true highlights were the pool and yard, and the sound system wired through the whole house and out to the pool/yard. Days were spent swimming, lounging, napping from several points throughout the property, extracting lemons from the trees to make drinks. Evenings spent BBQing, looking at the stars from the hot tub, lounging by the firepit, listening to our own mix of tunes or the AWOL ipod), before retiring to the comfy king size beds. Kitchen was equipped for a week of serious cooking. Adam was a pleasure to work with and was extremely helpful during a minor TV calibration issue. The owners were so helpful and hospitable, you really could not ask for better people to work with. We rented a bike and could bike everywhere from the house. All local amenities were close by. My constructive feedback was that I just could not get over that the house ipod, stocked with thousands of tunes (from decades of genres and a diverse range of tastes), somehow excluded Sinatra from the artist list. One must have Sinatra during an AWOL trip to Palm Springs. This travesty must be addressed before we return next spring!
We had a girls long weekend, our first time in PS & using VRBO! This home is exactly, wait, even more than what the pictures could show! It was a very clean, well equipped/furnished, spacious, fun place to stay. Adam was awesome to work with, so sweet and helpful. The neighborhood was quiet and great place for walking/running. The pool and hot tub were great. There was an "instruction notebook" it had everything you needed to know about the house and how it runs, VERY helpful indeed! The location was great, close to downtown shops and eateries and the airport! Pinnochios and LuLus were great places to eat! I even picked some lemons from the tree out front! Would definitely come back next year!
Located a short walk passed Frank Sinatra’s old house, through the neighborhood they once called “little Beverly Hills” to Ruth Hardy Park, perfect for picnics, taking a walk with fido, free tennis and basketball courts and a wonderful playground for kids. From there it is only a few more blocks to Palm Springs’ design district on Palm Canyon Drive for tons of great shopping and dinning. The Palm Springs Museum is nearby. We are situated an easy couple of blocks off the many official bike touring loops the city of palm spring has established. But that would mean you’d have to leave this great house!!!
