As its name indicates, this fully renovated cabin (new for 2013) sits on a hill with views out towards “Pond’s End” on the north shore of Long Pond. Great Long Pond is a roughly 900 acre lake on the less crowded “Quietside” of Mount Desert Island and offers outstanding boating access. National Park Canoe and Kayak Rental and a public swimming park and boat ramp are a few hundred yards walk from the cabin. About 2/3 of the Pond’s shoreline is part of Acadia National Park, and is accessed by hiking trails for all skill levels along the lake shore and up Mansell, Bernard and Beech Mountains. Acadia’s Park Loop Road is a short drive, and offers access to the other Park attractions on the east side of the Island. Southwest Harbor, Seawall, Bass Harbor Lighthouse and Somesville are a few of the destinations close by on the Quietside.
The cabin features an open floor plan living/dining area with cathedral ceiling, adjacent to the stainless and hickory-wood kitchen. A separate bedroom with double bed, and a tongue-and-groove pine bathroom with shower, complete the accommodations. Electric baseboard heat throughout the home keeps the cabin cozy in spring and fall. The front deck and side garden areas provide relaxing outdoor living space.
TV for viewing DVDs, radio with support for MP3 player, WiFi DSL Internet, microwave, dishwasher, fans, stainless gas grill. Long distance calls require a credit/calling card.
This private cottage is right across the street from Long Pond, one of the best swimming and boating water bodies in Maine. It is centrally located and Acadia's sights can be visited every day. There are plenty of hiking trails and mountains to climb, plus too many restaurants to be able to try them all in one vacation!
