Two bedrooms, two baths and a fully equipped kitchen make this cozy cottage a wonderful vacation retreat. Across the road from a quiet, no-wake lake in the heart of the Berkshires, this is the perfect home base to take advantage of all the area has to offer. Spend a summer afternoon at the grassy beach just a 5-minute walk down the road and take the provided inflatable boat out on the water. Fire up the gas grill for a tasty dinner at the picnic table on the deck. On a cool night in the fall, start a warm, cheery fire in the new wood stove.
The fully updated cottage has two walls of windows and is sunny throughout. One bedroom has bunk beds and a queen-sized pullout couch. The other has a king-size bed, along with a private full bath. There is also a sleeping porch with a small convertible sofa and twin bed – perfect for a warm summer night. The kitchen comes completely stocked with dishes and cookware.
In addition to the comforts of home, the cottage is close to many of the Berkshires' great attractions. It is less than 10 minutes to Jacob's Pillow dance festival (free evening performances at a stunning outdoor stage) and 30 minutes to Tanglewood. The Appalachian Trail is just 15 minutes away. Easy access to the Norman Rockwell museum, Edith Wharton's 'the mount', Berkshire Museum, MassMoca and the Clark. And the Lee premium outlets are close by as well.
We have always loved coming to the Berkshires and taking advantage of all they have to offer. Having this house also helps to get away from the bustle of city life and just sloooowww dowwwwnnn.
This cottage was exactly as described, quiet and cleanly and perfect for a weekend getaway. It is far enough away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to get back to civilization when necessary. The hiking in the area was perfect, couldn't have asked for a better central location to all of the most popular trail systems. Pristine Lake proved to be true to its name, pristine and breathtakingly beautiful. I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone looking for some time to venture in the woods or just some R & R. The property owners were wonderful communicators and provided great customer service, we will definitley be back for another stay in the future!
We've stayed with four adults and two young kids (0 and 2 yrs old) at this lovely Berkshire retreat and would definitely return. The house is spacious enough - love the outdoor area and BBQ - and accommodated our party well. All facilities are there - in good shape, clean and easy to use. Do note if you consider going here that we've brought the kids' beds with us as all beds at the house are for adults or older kids. The owners are amiable, professional and easy to communicate with. They provided us with a good manual - both for the house and for getting around.
The immediate surroundings are really nice and quiet. We really felt being away from 'reality'. There's a lake only a short walk away and it has a lovely spot on which to hang out and enjoy nature.
We've visited Tanglewood which is only a 30 mins drive.
Definitely a place we'd recommend!
My husband and I have been renting homes through the internet and agents, sight unseen, for 20 years. We've stayed at homes throughout the US and Europe- in cities and countryside Unfortunately, this place has been one of the worst places we have stayed. However, the landlord was very responsive.
It was not clean. The cushions were grimy, the owners' personal items (clothes and shoes) were in the common rooms, and every dish and pot had to be scrubbed before use. The toaster oven, cutting board, and salt and pepper shakers were beyond washing but should be thrown away. The linens felt grimy, and the bed pillows were fragrant of previous sleepers.
Cabin smell. Even after 6 days with the windows open and fans running, the place smelled damp and fetid. There had been a lot of rain; however, a dehumidifier or other items could have helped.
In general, it felt shoddy (knobs came off the cabinets and a chair had torn seat). The master bed (actually two twin beds pushed together) was soft.
The house was roomy. Perhaps appropriate for a large group of students... but NOT for a couple or family.
There is really no view of the lake, and we could not even swim in it because it had e coli. We left early; the only reason we stayed as long as we did is because we had tickets to shows in the area and could not find another suitable place (plus we had prepaid for this place). The front and rear decks were nice.
With all this said, the Berkshires are beautiful and have great cultural events- dance, art and theater. . We look forward to returning to the area again-- however, NOT here.
