Thank you so much for considering Hawaii, Maui, and Hale Kai O’Kihei for your vacation. With so many wonderful and exotic holiday destinations to choose from, the Internet bringing access to them right to your home, and vacation time and dollars so precious, we appreciate you taking the time to visit our site.
In finishing, furnishing, and maintaining our apartments 208 and 203 (www.vrbo.com/241190), we started from a simple premise: what do we like about where we stay when we’re on holiday? Whether we’re doing a home exchange, staying in a reciprocal private club in another city, or in an apartment or condo booked through VRBO, we want a place that speaks to intimacy and individuality.
We don’t like cold, impersonal, one-size-fits-all experiences, where the bare minimum is what’s provided. We want to stay in places where our needs are important, where our time spent travelling to the destination and the cost of getting there is understood and appreciated. We want to stay in homes and apartments where the human touch of the owner abounds — where the owner’s attention to detail and focus on our experience are always top of mind.
It’s all about passion. Your experience with us needs to be exceptional. From the moment you walk in the door, we want you to experience an ocean-front home away from home that is warm and welcoming. Perhaps it’s the colours, the cleanliness, or the carefully selected artwork. Maybe it’s the fresh flowers and wine, or the L'Occitane en Provence toiletries. Or perhaps its one of the dozens of other little touches — like the beach chairs, beach towels, snorkel gear, binoculars — that make arriving and getting started on your time off and time away just that much quicker and easier.
We spend a great deal of time listening to our guests and tailoring our efforts to their needs. The personal touch infuses all that we do, and that passion is fuelled each time a guest returns, or recommends our apartments 208 or 203 to family members and friends.
Again, thank you for choosing Hawaii and Maui, and for considering our apartment 208 at Hale Kai O’Kihei. We’d like you to stay with us, and experience our efforts to make your stay exceptional and to keep you coming back, whenever work schedules, family commitments, or the need to ‘just get away’ allow.
Now, information about what awaits you at Hale Kai O’Kihei and apartment 208 . . . .
If you're looking to stay in one of the nicest oceanfront apartments available at Hale Kai O’Kihei, then you've found it! And whether you are staying in our Unit #208 or #203, Hale Kai O’Kihei offers the Hawaiian experience you've dreamt of.
If “perfect” is the best word to describe the location of Hale Kai O’Kihei — on a palm-tree bordered golden-sand beach on a quiet residential street off busy South Kihei Road — then “stunning” is the only word to describe Unit #208, a fully renovated, no-expense-spared one-bedroom oasis on the second floor of this Kihei beachfront jewel.
From gorgeous cherry wood cabinets in the kitchen and bath with silent closing drawers, elegant granite kitchen and bath countertops, Kohler fixtures, Grohe faucets, exquisitely designed and tiled shower with glass block and found-pebble floor, virtually seamless 18” x 18” tile from the front door to the outer edge of the lanai, top-end appliances including flat-glass cooktop, ultra low-sound dishwasher and compact clothes washer . . .
. . . to a work-of-art ‘glass wall’ to the lanai with feather-light centre-opening doors, a peaceful but high-efficiency Fujitsu Halcyon 18,000 BTU split air conditioner, and yes, even an electric sunshade on the lanai allowing full-lanai use and ocean views, even at the height of the afternoon sun . . .
. . . and backed by only the highest quality and thread-count linens and beddings for refreshing tropical sleep, unit 208 builds on the perfect beachside location of Hale Kai O’Kihei and puts you in the picture in one of the most luxurious and fully outfitted units this jewel of a building has to offer.
And when you add this stunning unit to the perfect location? The Hawaiian experience you've dreamt of, matched by few other units in HKOK.
Relaxing in unit #208 on the second floor of this beautiful Kihei beachfront property, the stress and pressures of hectic Mainland life are all but forgotten. Offering privacy and calm amid the sight, sound, and feel of gently breaking waves, swaying palm trees, and soothing ocean breezes, Hale Kai O’Kihei, with just over 50 units on three floors, delivers South Maui’s best boutique accommodation and oceanfront experience.
Enjoy the ocean view from your private lanai. Walk across the lawn beneath the swaying palms to swim in the warm, breathlessly blue Pacific. Stroll the quiet and largely undiscovered beach and return re-connected and renewed. Linger in the pool taking in the green lawn, the golden-sand beach, the Island of Lanai, and the sky that goes on forever. Watch the sunset from the warm sand at the edge of the beach, the palms behind you, the future and all its possibilities directly ahead.
This one-bedroom, second-floor oasis will be your ‘home away from home’ with all the amenities you will need for the Maui vacation for which you've been waiting. And Kihei, located on the sunny, southern shore of Maui, is only 20 minutes from the airport in Kahului.
This is one of the very nicest units in HKOK, and offers you the Hawaiian experience you;'vie dreamt of. But have you checked out the calendar only to find that apartment #208 isn't available for the period you'd like to visit? Don't worry! Just have a look at our listing for HKOK 203 at www.VRBO.com/241190 -- and check the calendar for your chance to enjoy an exceptional Maui experience from our second apartment, itself one of the two very nicest available in this lovely property on the ocean's edge.
This is a licensed vacation rental, so book with confidence. As well, in renting this unit, you are renting directly from the owner, not an agent or third-party representative. The owner has an Internal Revenue Service Tax Identification Number and a Hawaii Tax Identification Number (W87097056-01) for the collection and remittance of State of Hawaii Transient Accommodation Tax (TAT) and State of Hawaii General Excise Tax (GET), and dutifully makes all remittances required by law while complying with, and reserving all protections under, the North American Free Trade Agreement and the United States — Canada Income Tax Convention.
We're like many of the guests we've met at Hale Kai O' Kihei over the years -- we've got demanding jobs, and put a lot of effort into our work. So there are times when we just want to get away from the stress for a few days, and get to a place where living is just easier, the demands less.
That philosophy guided our renovation and redecoration of our home in Hale Kai O’Kihei #203 when we purchased it in 2008. And the same approach influenced the additions and touches we've added to this stunningly renovated unit #208, which we purchased in 2011.
We've added more “Maui” colour though a restfully exotic paint palette, thoughtful furnishings, finishings, and appliances, and additional locally sourced vintage Hawaiian artwork. We don’t like to pack too much when we come to Hale Kai O’Kihei, so those hassle-saving details from 203 have been added to this unit as well, from snorkels, fins, and masks, boogie boards and beach chairs right down to binoculars and tropical CDs.
We’re always learning more about what makes a stay at Hale Kai O’Kihei an outstanding experience for ourselves and our guests. And with #203 and #208, two of the nicest units in Hale Kai O’Kihei -- itself the best in boutique accommodation in South Maui -- we’re perfecting the delivery of the Hawaiian experience that we and our guests have dreamt of!
So join us in the great Maui adventure at Hale Kai O’Kihei! Come and visit and discover the Hawaiian holiday of your dreams!
Adam Leamy, Owner purchased this condo in 2011
We’ve been visiting HKOK since 1997, and bought #203 in 2008. This remarkable place, and the experience it offers, gets in your blood. Departures for us and our guests aren’t the end -- they’re just the start of planning for the next trip. And that’s the best way to finish a holiday -- making plans for the next one.
Each time we visit, HKOK delivers. Sometimes we’re doing errands and chores; other times, we’re true ‘guests’ ourselves, relishing the chance to do blissfully, decadently nothing. Just taking in the sights, the sounds, and the beauty of it all. And the great thing is that it’s all there, visible from the private lanai or for direct interaction by way of a few paces across the lawn, through the palm trees to the beach.
In March 2011, on a beach walk from HKOK, past the oceanfront estates on Halama St. through Kalama Park, and over a coffee at Kihei Caffe, the decision was made to buy a second unit. Why? Because in a world of sometimes wearying change HKOK is a welcome, restorative constant. And therein lies the HKOK charm: Shopping and services are a block away and those farther afield run the gamut from Macy’s to Tiffany’s. For us, the real draw continues to be this simple delight: Once we get in the door of #203 or 208, and put our groceries away, we're set, and can experience much of what we want from Maui, even whale watching, from our own lanai or our own front yard and beach.
The lure of Maui’s beaches, restaurants and places to watch the world slowly go by remains. But units 203 and 208, uniquely renovated offer a wondrous Hawaiian experience, all day long -- one many of us dreamt of in childhood on ‘sick days’ in colder climes, when game-show hosts Bob Barker or Tom Kennedy whisked winners away to Hawaii, affording us all a Technicolor glimpse of this exotic paradise.
Sitting on the edge of the beach with a glass of wine, long after the sun has disappeared? Still a star-gazer's paradise, and an awesome way to end any day.
We love walking the beach first thing in the morning, before the sun peeks out over the edge of Haleakala, when ours are the first footprints in the sand.
We love the way that in the mid-morning, the water just off the shore is dead calm, and is as many shades of blue, blue-green, and turquoise you can count.
We love watching the horizon out past the shallows, where the water turns a deep, alluring blue, when the breaching Humpbacks send plumes of bright white spray into the air.
We love the midday when beach walkers and sun bathers take a break from the waves and the sun, seeking shade and sustenance, and a quiet falls over Hale Kai O’Kihei.
We love the mid-afternoon awakening when the wind picks up, the waves are more playful, drawing windsurfers and kite surfers to the shore and the challenges beyond.
We love the late afternoon, when the sun accelerates its race for the far side of Lanai and the lawn is a velvety canvas of yellows and greens, set against the dark slope of West Maui to the north, and a still-clear sky speaks to the promise of stars and far-away dreams to follow.
We love when the sun finally winks out behind Lanai, and those who have assembled on the lawn and beach to watch its farewell hug, kiss, or squeeze hands, in that knowing gesture which acknowledges that this one moment, this one sunset, experienced together, was what called them to Maui, and which they will use, in the years ahead, as the touchstone to remember their trip here, and why it was so special.
And then we love when darkness falls, and the two of us head down to the beach, lie back in the sand, and take in the enormity of the clarity and depth of the wondrous night sky.
We had an amazing time celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Adam and Michelle helped us book last minute after our reservations were canceled due to a flood nearby. It turned into a blessing in disguise! They had a bottle of wine waiting for us and check in was super easy. The condo was lovely and well equipped and the location and views were splendid. We will stay here again on our next visit.
My husband and I met in Maui for a belated 28th anniversary (he lives and works in Australia, and I live and work in Colorado). I could not have chosen a better place for our stay. The condo has everything you could need, beach towels, snorkel gear, beach chairs, a well appointed kitchen with all the gadgets, and quite the selection of music (who wants to watch TV in paradise)? We LOVED the welcome flowers and champagne! The condo is so comfortable and the view is stunning; you just can't get better sunsets or morning walks on the beach. Adam and Michelle are so considerate with their guests, and the personal phone call to let me know about the property before our departure was greatly appreciated. Kihei is a great small town that has everything, and there is so much to see and do on the rest of Maui. Organic farm in the high county, vineyard, snorkeling Molokini, whale watching, learning the history of the port town of Lahaini, road to Hana (we kept going past Hana and made the whole circle around Maui). It was such a wonderful trip and it was made that much better because we always came back to a peaceful, relaxing place. Thank you Adam and Michelle!
Bill and I left HKOK on March 28th after three wonderful weeks, kicking and screaming as we got on the plane. Adam and Michelle go to great lengths to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable - from the flowers on the table to the large, well-equipped kitchen and closets. The unit is very clean, and there is plenty of equipment for those who like water sports as well as a good supply of towels, pillows and hangers. The attitude of the owners is warm and accommodating; every effort is made to ensure that you are a guest and that you can relax, have fun, and forget your worries.
But there is so much more. The unit faces right onto the beach and comes complete with wonderful sunsets most nights. The beach is only steps away from the building and is well-protected. There is WIFI and North-American wide telephone service - a great idea when you have family back home.
If you don't feel like going out, Kihei has everything you need for a "stay at home" day. Shopping, restaurants and even a medical clinic are close by. Our favourite occupation is getting up early, eating breakfast on the lanai, and watching the world wake up. However, don't neglect Maui, itself, as there is so much to see and do.
We have recommended Michelle and Adam's property at HKOK to many friends, and will continue to do so. We are already starting to count down the time until our next stay in 2016. We enjoy the island and its people, whom we find to be friendly and helpful, and the weather is such a wonderful break from Canada's often severe winter.
One final point: the building restricts noise after 10:00 pm, which we appreciate. After a long day out and about, it is nice to know that a good sleep awaits to prepare you for another wonderful day. So, here's to HKOK and its wonderful atmosphere. We can hardly wait until 2016.
We knew in advance that this was probably going to be a special family trip for us to Maui. We have been to Hawaii each of the past 5 winters, but this one was the most memorable. It was the first time that Janice and I brought our young adult sons with us, and in talking to the owner Adam prior to the trip I knew that Kihei would be a hit for everyone - with the variety of opportunities and activities so nearby.
Adam and Michelle had paid such excellent attention to making our holiday a success PRIOR to our departure, we were very confident that everything would be in order. Although even they surprised us with their thoughtful consideration and attention to detail. A wonderful welcome surprise awaited us the first night - which got us started on the right foot for sure! The condo is wonderfully appointed and everything was in order - Adam even ordered new snorkel gear to accommodate our sons Alex and Ryan.
Waking up the first morning and seeing the reaction on the boy’s faces with the beach RIGHT there and a wonderful first breakfast on the lanai continued to set the tone of relaxation and fun.
While we did many things together (snorkeling, family surf lessons, hiking, golf for Alex and Ken, and beach days) there was also plenty of alone time - Alex "chilling" at the condo one day and Janice finding a great yoga studio - Kihei really had it all for us.
But, by far, the highlight of every day was sitting together enjoying dinner on the lanai as the sun set and then someone taking the initiative to propose a thoughtful toast as a reflection of the day.....Thanks to Adam and Michelle for providing this great spot for our family to reconnect. We will be back!
And this from Alex and Ryan: "Hey Adam, thanks for the use of the boogie boards -we have a story to tell on that one, later....and also for having in house WiFi! You rock!"
Just a short note to wrap up the initial review we wrote after only two days at this wonderful condo, and thank Adam and Michelle once again for creating such a great place to stay while on a Maui vacation. You will have no regrets staying here!
Our 12 days in paradise just flew by, and we found ourselves asking “Why didn’t we do all those things we planned to do in Maui?” The answer: We really didn’t want to leave this property, and when we did (and found ourselves on beaches where there were actually more than 5 or 6 people), we couldn’t wait to get back. It was just so absolutely relaxing to be there, and whether we were on the lanai, cooking a meal in the gourmet kitchen, out on the grass, swimming or stand up paddle boarding, the views were always spectacular.
Our Maui highlights (when we did manage to get out) included swimming with turtles off Maluaka Beach, whale watching with the Pacific Whale Foundation, Happy Hours at Saltimbocca, Capische and Three’s, and visiting the “up country” farm markets, ranch and winery.
Thanks…we will be back.
What can we say that hasn't already been said by previous guests? Thanks so much to our gracious hosts for the wine and flowers...they were a wonderful welcome to this spectacular suite. The suite has been beautifully renovated with a creative Hawaiian flair. Kitchen is great for foodies. It has everything an innovative chef would desire, and the view from the kitchen (along with a glass of fine red wine from the local winery) makes the preparation of meals even more enjoyable! The ocean is framed by the swaying palm trees of the coconut grove that the property is situated in, and with the retractable doors open we feel like we are living right on the beach. We've only been here two days so far, and have been treated to two amazing sunsets while sitting on the lanai with our glasses of wine.
