Owner Description/Comments: : We purchased Sabino Ranch in 2000. We lived on the ranch as my primary residence until 2003, when we moved out of the country for work. I have over the years worked with historical restoration company, Means Design and Build to restore the adobe building and carefully bring modern amenities to the ranch with out loosing the charm of the past.

When my dispersed family decided to spend Christmas week together in the Tucson area, I hunted for a suitable place meeting our specifications: five bedrooms, several baths, lots of space for both indoor and outdoor gatherings, well-equipped kitchen, heated pool, a property affording quiet privacy but not too distant from the city, and near places for both short and long hikes. It seemed an impossibly tall order.
I chose Sabino Ranch from its online description and pictures, but choosing a place from what’s available on a website can lead to disappointment. The choice turned out to be perfect for us and met or exceeded all of our needs. It is an historic ranch property with a main house and separate guest cottage on a large parcel from which, remarkably, no other houses are visible. Yet it is within a couple of miles of stores, cafés and restaurants, and within a half hour or so of most of the places one might want to visit in the Tucson area. And, it is just down the road from Sabino Canyon, a National Recreation Area where one can enjoy a landscape of desert, mountains and canyons in an easy stroll or an all-day hike into the nearby wilderness.
While Sabino Ranch is quietly elegant and comfortable, it is not for those looking for a luxury resort lifestyle. That said, for people seeking spacious, peaceful and authentically southwestern accommodations close to world-class natural areas and hiking and not far from Tucson’s urban amenities, I don’t know how you could do better.
My family, 2 from Chicago, 5 from Florida, plus my wife and I met for a family reunion at the Sabino Canyon Ranch and every one agreed how much they enjoyed their stay there. It was quiet and tranquil except for when the grand kids filled their Funtime at the beautifully well maintained pool. Restaurants and food stores very convienent to reach. Very short trips to various sights/ attractions. Topped our last day there with a trip to Mt. Lemon where the sights were fantastic. Must not forget to praise how wonderful and helpful the Ranch Manager was. Very knowledgeable of the area wildlife. Highly recommended.
What a wonderful experience. We were in the country (chickens crowing each morning) and yet so close to the amenities. It is close (within 20 minutes) to Sabino Canyon, medical facilities, shopping, restaurants, and scenic drives.
The owner has done a wonderful job in restoring this old ranch and we were privileged to enjoy it. The photos are as accurate as you can get without actually being there.Plenty of space for our group of 10. Early morning coffee at an outside shaded table. The pool was refreshing. The views of the mountains were ever changing and always beautiful. This quaint yet modern ranch was a wonderful setting.
If you want a pleasant, calm, and beautiful setting, this is it. March was a great time to be there and we shall return.
Thank You to the owner and the caretaker for making this a special vacation spot for our family.
Sabino Ranch is a cozy and quiet retreat near Sabino Canyon with easy access to a lot of outdoor recreation, including hiking and golf. We stayed for over a week in October, 2010, using the property as a base for doing ecological field work in the Sonoran Desert. Deb was incredibly gracious to let us be flexible on the dates of our stay and in her more-than-reasonable accommodations of our travel budget.
Sabino Ranch was home away from home. We were extremely pleased that at the end of each exhausting field day, we got to retreat to Sabino Ranch to enjoy the serenity and the maximum level of comfort in the main house. We were able to find everything we needed – excellent kitchen, dining, swimming, sleeping, and entertainment accommodations. We would recommend Sabino Ranch to anyone.
Historical Sabino Ranch is a close drive to amenities, but a world apart. Sabino Ranch is a historical restored adobe ranch located just south of Sabino Canyon, ¼ mile as the crow flies from Canyon Ranch and 3 miles from Ventana Resort. It sits on its own very private 6 acres just a stones throw from Sabino Creek, the only perennial creek in the Tucson basin. Though there are many mountain views from the property there are also beautiful mesquite trees to sit under and relax.
There is an abundance of wildlife to watch: roadrunners, coyotes, rabbits and javelina to mention a few. It has its own horse facility and riding ring. It is conveniently located near restaurants, golf courses, hiking, shopping and other amenities.
