About Dee

We came from the mid-west as college students for a summer job. Kathy and I have been friends since we met as black jack dealers at Sahara Tahoe in the early 1970's; it was a summer vacation that lasted for more than a decade! Eventually our lives went in various directions but our hearts and souls have been embedded in Lake Tahoe since that first summer. Kathy is now a casino manager in Reno and I have a career in real estate in the Bay Area - town of Los Gatos.

Dee purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Dee chose Black Bart

Tahoe in the 70's was deliciously decadent; the result of sharing that experience created life-long friendships for about 20 of us 'girls.' Though few of us remained at the Lake after 1980, we return almost every summer for our annual 'Reunion;' next year will be the 30th anniversary of those reunions. We rent a big, comfortable house either on the Lake or with a fabulous view of the Lake and spend 4-5 days reminiscing or trying to re-create those crazy times. And we have a blast! As our reunion group gets smaller, we spend most of our vacation reunions in our cabin.

What makes this cabin unique

We love being off the beaten track, yet right in the center of S. Lake Tahoe. All the open space behind the cabin makes us feel like we are in the woods, it's great to hike along Trout Creek enjoying the huge meadows that are all around the cabin.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for renting us your lovely cabin. We had a great time. It was the kids first snow! We didn't get any fresh snow but they didn't know the difference:).

Your place is terrific. I couldn't think of a more ideal place for this important "first" family memory. We will be back.

Great weekend stay!

  • 4 of 5
We had a great weekend at this cabin. Everything was clean and comfy, and it was just the right size for us, our two kids, and our dog. We appreciated being able to bring our dog, she loved catching snowballs and eating them. At the cabin we are pretty sure we saw a wolf walking down the street, and a highlight for the kids - bear poop! :) The kitchen was well equipped and very nice. We enjoyed being close to everything, we took the kids across the state line for the first time and explored that area. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of snow in the area the weekend we were there, but there was plenty at Camp Sacramento in the Echo Summit area, and the kids had a blast learning to sled. Overall it was a great place at a great price, I definitely recommend it!
The only reason I didn't give the place 5 stars is that we had a couple stressful moments involving the locks. We were warned that it may be difficult to get in, and it was - it took nearly 10 minutes to get the lock on the door between the mud room and house to unlock upon our arrival. Then we discovered that the side door can be opened from the inside without unlocking it, and we ended up being locked out of the house when the kids went out without unlocking the door and we followed. Fortunately the kitchen window happened to be unlocked and we were able to boost a kid through. Not the owners' fault, but something to be aware of.

Super cozy and relaxing, feels like a dream!

  • 5 of 5
Our family came for Christmas and we can't say enough about our experience and the cabin. It is so cozy and inviting! The forest in the back was an absolute dream! There was just enough snow for the kids to play and a hill that was just perfect for our young daughters first time sledding! It was so great to be so close to everything but yet feel secluded. We were minutes away from Heavenly Village, grovery stores, and snowmobiling. The cabin was just the right size and had everything we would have needed and more. We will give you a call Dee when ever we can make it back! The kids wanted to move in and also want to experience Tahoe in the summer. I highly recommend this cabin over any of the hotels. We were able to make a traditional Christmas dinner and had a feeling of home while still being on vacation and away form it all! Thank you Dee for such an experience. We were all very happy!

This affordable cabin was perfect!

  • 5 of 5
I stayed in the cabin for 6 weeks this summer, and I couldn't have asked for a nicer home away from home. The location was perfect: within minutes walking to the forest trails and trout creek, minutes to a multitude of bike paths, and a peaceful uninhabited meadow directly behind the cabin. In a quiet residential neighborhood with easy access to Hwy 50 and the lesser-used local roads to get anywhere you want to go.

The cabin was extremely comfortable, with some nice amenities other rentals don't offer: DVR service on the Living Room AND Master Bedroom TV's, answering machine on the landline phone with additional phones in every room, electric space heater in the bathroom for those chilly morning showers, modern updated kitchen with newer appliances, a well-stocked pantry that contained all those extra things you forgot to bring and don't want to buy for your short stay. The beds were extremely comfortable. The gas fireplace on a thermostat in the living room was lovely on cool mornings, plus there's a gas furnace if you need more heat elsewhere in the house. The house was large and well-laid out for a 2-bedroom; there was plenty of table/dining space. The gas grill was large and handy.

Dee, the owner, was very responsive to any queries I had - reponding almost immediately when I contacted her the few times I was there.

I wish I could have stayed longer and am very disappointed this cabin was not available for my long term rental in summer 2014. I spent quite a bit of time while I was in Tahoe searching for another place for next year, and found nothing to compare to this cabin at anywhere near the rate Dee charges. Snap this one up!

Owner's Response: Thank you for that WOW review! So glad that you enjoyed your summer in the cabin and sorry that we couldn't have you again next summer, but July and part of August were already booked. We must be doing something right, as we are getting bookings more than a year in advance for the busy seasons. I know our rates are good, they seem to attract exactly the people we like to rent to. After 8 years of being a vacation rental, everyone has taken excellent care of the cabin- it looks as good as it did when we first remodeled it in 2005.

Completely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
Absolutely loved the cabin! It was so cozy and nice. It was very snowy during our stay, but the gas fireplace kept us warm blooded, honeymooning San Diegans toasty the whole time. The master bed was very comfortable, and the couch/chair in the living room were comfy too. Everything about it was perfect.

It's perfectly located too, 5 minutes from whatever groceries/shopping you would need. We took a drive around the lake to check out the other towns around it, South Lake Tahoe is definitely where all the action is! If you're into skiing, this is the place to camp out.

Also, Dee was extremely pleasant and accommodating. On the day before we were supposed to leave a huge snow storm blew in and we were going to have to stay another night somewhere else it seemed. But as I was weighing our options and trying to figure something out, the phone rang and it was Dee. She put forth the effort for us to arrange for the cleaning people to come a day later and work it out with the guests who were staying after us to come a little later! Truly went above and beyond the call for us and exhibited real hospitality.

So thank you Dee for the great place to stay! And to any would-be honeymooners looking for a place to call home base, let me just say that it was an amazing place to stay and I wouldn't have traded it for anything else! If you're on the fence or having a hard time deciding, just go with this one! You have a wedding to plan anyway, it'll be easier once you can be at peace about having a nice place to honeymoon locked down.

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time at this cabin! Despite new snow, the driveway was plowed regularly. The cabin provided plenty of space for a family of 4 and we enjoyed lovely winter wonderland views outside. We enjoyed cooking and sharing meals at the dinner table, watching films while sitting on comfortable sofas and arm chairs. The beds had extra blankets which was great for the winter! Kitchen had a lot of supplies: silverware, plates, pots and cooking equipment. We found plenty of herbs, souses, oils and etc. in the cabinets.

The cabin was only 10 minutes from Heavenly resort, and we were able to skip most of the traffic. When coming back after a day of snowboarding, we felt cold and tired, but it was easy to warm up the cabin and make hot tea.

We had a great New Year's day! Thank you so much for making the cabine such an enjoyable vacation home!
