About Leslie Russell

We live in Montreal with our little daugther Anna. Mario is from Quebec and we spend as much time as possible there. I am from Newfoundland (small island on the east coast of Canada) and Quebec City is one of my favorite cities in the world! I have travelled a lot so that means something!

Leslie Russell purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Leslie Russell chose Quebec City

Mario's summer cottage was just next door and his grand-father originally developed this area of cottages.

What makes this cottage unique

One wall of the cottage is entirely windows. So beautiful to wake up to the view of only water and trees ..... I love to have my coffee on the terrace and just relax.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Mario & Leslie,

We just loved Quebec, the little towns and cafe' s, the old part of Quebec City.

We loved your little cottage, it had everything we needed and was close to the City. If someone wanted a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle, your cottage is ideal.

Lovely spot, clean charming, everything we needed.

This cottage is a sweet contrast after a day of sightseeing in busy Quebec City: morning coffee on the deck overlooking the river was a great way to start the day.

Beautiful Autumn in Quebec

  • 5 of 5
I spent 6 nights here with my two children, ages 9 and 11, and we were quite pleased with everything. Leslie was very easy to work with (via email) to make and adjust arrangements -- very prompt, friendly and cheerful. The house was exceptionally clean. There was a pull-out cot which was very firm; my daughter found it uncomfortable but my son was fine with it. Jean and his wife went out of their way and above and beyond the usual to help us out and make sure our stay was comfortable. I felt perfectly safe here which is very important to me as a mom traveling alone with two kids. It was good to be out of the busy city and in such a quiet and beautiful location.

You will love this St. Lawrence overlook cottage

  • 5 of 5
We were enchanted from the moment we turned down the dirt road and found ourselves descending into a wonderful wooded home. Jean-Guy and Michelin were wonderful hosts, allowed me to practice my French, and left us to ourselves approrpriately. Do not miss the walk further down from the cottage to the actual river which is about 2 more switch-backs down. The cottage was plenty big for 2 adults and a well-behaved cat. Temperature controls allowed us to be as warm or chilly as we chose. Shower was clean, bathroom was a tight squeeze but worked well. The ONLY suggestion I have is to install additional towel racks or hooks around the bathroom. Kitchen is sublime, lovely, clean, up-to-date, fully stocked. We will definitely try for this again should Quebec "call." It was an excellent price and a terrific value. thank you! - Alice, Margaret, and Molly Blue

Lovely property in a great location!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I really enjoyed our honeymoon stay right outside of Quebec City. The cottage was in a great location overlooking the river (which was very nice from all the glass windows in the living/dining room!) We really enjoyed having a fire on the back patio and cooking for ourselves in the nicely equipped kitchen. We had a couple very small issues, but the owners were nothing but polite and took care of them right away. The property was very clean and comfortable. We were not far from many attractions, including the ferry to Quebec City which leaves out of Levis, which was much nicer than driving in! We were also within 30 minutes of the Ile de Orleans, which was one of our favorite places on our trip. I would certainly recommend this cottage to anyone who does not want to stay in the city and wants somewhere quiet, but is still close to all of the action.

Good Value, Would Be Great Value With TLC

  • 4 of 5
This is a difficult review for me to write because we loved this little chalet, but it needs a little TLC. First, this cottage is located across the river from Quebec City in the 'burbs, but in a really lovely wooded location that makes you feel like you are not in 'burbs. Also, the picture of the view is accurate, but does not capture the view's real loveliness and how the cottage's wall of windows lets the lovely setting inside. Sunrise, exquisite coming through the trees and over the river. In the winter and fall, with the leaves in color or off the trees the view would be SPECTACULAR. The living area and kitchen are one large room and completely workable for two adults and one 6-yr old. The kitchen works excellently and is well stocked. The one bedroom is large, but the cot was really pretty uncomfortable so our child ended up on the couch (I would recommend getting a futon - it could easily fit in the pretty big bedroom). I would hesitate to have more than three people in this place, but maybe two adults and two small kids. The one bathroom is rough. Functional, but be prepared for small and rough. A few problems - the property was really weedy and overgrown (in fairness - there had been quite a bit of unusual rain). Also, there is a lovely back patio but it backs up to a serious cliff like drop - fencing is sorely needed. Even adults could take an unexpected spill, and get hurt. But, the owners have a chiminea (and wood) for lovely fires, and a gas grill. The other treacherous part of the back is that the steps from the porch to the patio were not attached to the porch or house. These are the little TLC things that if fixed would really enhance this property. Finally, some other pros - reliable wi fi. And, the owners were really easy to work with - even with a problem which was our oversight. The location has easy access to drive into Quebec City (easy) or to the ferry in Levis (a must do for the views and ice cream). Also, we traveled to Ilse de Orleans, another easy drive, and it was fantastic. All in all, this property would be a five (especially for the price) with a little TLC and perhaps a bit of work in the bathroom. One last (American) comment: the owners' father seems to be the on-site point person for this property. He is more comfortable with French, which we do not speak, although we were able to communicate ok.
