A Romantic Brazilian Rainforest Escape

The Treehouse Lovenest is a charmingly unique 2 bedroom country lodge situated upstate NY on nearly 3 acres of virgin forest in Putnam Valley. Located an hour and 20 mins north of Brooklyn on the East side of the Hudson River, the two level house is perched up high amongst the trees and has recently been stylishly renovated. This loft like home has 18 foot ceilings in the living and dining areas and an open-planned kitchen adjacent to a split level lounge area which is drenched in light. For those who like to sleep in, it has 2 new comfy king size beds There are 2 bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen with new appliances and for all those who love to cook or wish they knew how, the kitchen has a fun and diverse library of wonderful cookbooks. If you are a child of the sixties or seventies you will love the awesome stereo and extensive eclectic collection of vinyl. A 1000 square foot deck wraps around the house, overlooking a charming stream which flows through a canyon on the property next to our dedicated grilling deck. Adjacent to 150 acres of NYC water supply land owned by the D.E.P, the area is home to an abundance of wildlife with deer seen almost on a daily basis. About Mister Basquali

I like taking photos, making coffee and swimming with my two dogs in nearby Roaring Brook Lake nearly everyday in summer. My wife works in fashion and is definitely the stylish one in the partnership. My favorite hobby is procrastination.

Mister Basquali purchased this lodge in 2013

Why Mister Basquali chose Putnam Valley

I am from Australia and moved to NYC in 2001. What I miss most about Sydney is the nature, and the peace and tranquility that it brings. With both my wife and I working in NYC this house gives us a tremendous connection to nature which provided a greater counterbalance to the crazy pace of NYC.

What makes this lodge unique

It's so close to the city.(Just over an hr away.)

Highly recommended

This is one for the memories. An airy A-frame cottage perched in a thick forest canopy, just the right sort of isolation and tranquility for lazy afternoons on the deck or long evenings listening to LPs by the fire. We cooked like chefs in the kitchen that seemed to have any little tool or condiment you could dream up. And we slept deeply to a symphony of crickets and bullfrogs.
There are little delights hidden all over the place, which is cleanly renovated but keeps its old soul. Highly recommended..

Absolutely Perfect!!

The Treehouse Lovenest was amazing. This little house was so cozy and quaint I didn't want to leave. The house was well equipped with everything you need for a weekend away. It was immaculately clean upon arrival and very well decorated. I really appreciated that it had a well equipped kitchen with good cutting knives (sounds minor but really isn't if you're cooking while away:), nice table settings etc. It's those little things that make you feel at home. We cooked, played records and watched movies by the fire all weekend. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Will definitely be returning :)

Amazing—I wish we could just live here for a year!

We had a fantastic time, every minute was like xmas morning and an Easter egg hunt rolled into one, as we stumbled upon all the goodies tucked in various spots. The place is not just a well-appointed, well-styled vacation suite, it's a lovingly curated home-away-from-home, full of human touches, every object in it ripe for discovery.

A randomly ordered list of the things that delighted us:

• The huge (50+?) and wide-ranging cookbook collection, particularly the books "Plenty," "The Art of Simple Food," and "Flour Water Salt Yeast."

• The comfort of fresh linens in king-sized beds. We tried both bedrooms, tough call as to which we liked better!

• The brilliantly subtle ambient lights behind the couches

• The eclectic DVDs and the top-notch HD projection set-up. We'd never seen anything like it. (And the screen disappears when you're not using it!)

• The luxurious downstairs shower, along with the rustic walls in there.

• The fascinating vintage (and current) magazines.

• The jazz album cover book, and all the other well-chosen volumes that beckon from the coffee table.

• The classic LPs! Scores of them. Pop, jazz, rock, funk, folk, R&B, from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s... We delved deep into retro pop—and were introduced to the awesome Jack Jones. And we barely dipped a toe into the collection.

• The dappled sun through the trees when we woke up.

• The back-yard grilling/dining terrace (things we grilled: corn, steak, whole fish, escarole, peaches, radiccio, pork chops, kale, portabello mushrooms, rhubarb, and softshell crabs!)

• The fun of the discerningly-stocked honor bar (governed by the "replace as much as you consume" philosophy), and the very illuminating cocktail books.

• The comfort of the big couch, with the super-soft furry throw rug and pillows.

• The fresh air while sitting on the porch drinking (coffee in the a.m., G&Ts in the p.m.) while staring into the endless sea of trees

The experience recharged our batteries immeasurably. Though the area has a lot to offer (we'd planned to go hiking, swimming, shopping, dining out...), the Lovenest was so comfortable that we just made a couple of food runs, and spent all of our time there. The host was a pleasure to deal with, and went out of his way to be sure we found everything we needed.

My only warning: book a stay that's long enough that you won't be frustrated by all the records you didn't listen to, cocktails you didn't mix, or recipes you didn't try!

Vinyl and home cooking - what's not to love?

Vinyl and home cooking - what's not to love?

Can't do justice to just how great a spot this was. My wife and I came up here on a last-minute getaway from the city and from the minute we stepped through the door we just instinctively relaxed. Within ten minutes we were sitting on the sofa, reading from the house's fantastic array of cook books and listening to some of the lovingly assembled record collection. Two hours later we'd enjoyed a great home cooked meal, lost track of time and realized that neither one of us had checked our phones since arriving. And that's how it stayed for the rest of the weekend.

The main bedroom is light, airy and surrounded by windows — utterly beautiful to wake up in. In fact the whole place is light and airy — you're surrounded by a canopy of trees, but the house doesn't feel overshadowed, just tranquil.

It's not pristine, but everything was clean and well-maintained and you're probably not looking at this listing if "pristine" is a priority. Everything about the house felt like the most lovingly put together home from home, but without feeling you were being overwhelmed by someone else's taste. We felt as if someone had asked if we had everything we needed, made sure it was there and then quietly left us to enjoy the place without us noticing them leaving.

When we did venture out the towns of Beacon and Cold Spring, with their restaurants, galleries and antique shops, were really close by, but to be honest, when you're this happy and comfortable lounging around, why venture out?

Time stretched out and a two day stay felt like a much longer vacation. We felt totally blissed out and peaceful by the end (even driving home through New York traffic!). We've already planned our next trip with friends — the place is plenty spacious and private for two couples, and the open plan living area is made for eating and talking with friends, though personally there was something magic about just having a getaway for two here.

Not sure what else I can say other than "book now" (or lose out when we do...).
