This rustic home is nestled among towering trees in the mountains of Northern California. Being the closest rental, just 7 short miles to the north entrance to Lassen National Park, makes it the perfect place to stay and plan your outings into the park. Built on a hillside at 4500', this two story home is the perfect getaway for anyone wanting to escape the heat of summer. You may hear the laughter and activities of the youth attending the Christian Camp across the Lake, with July and August being their busiest months. Sit and relax with your morning coffee on the sky high deck or BBQ your dinner out back and watch the wildlife that frequents this property. Gaze up to the sky and view the stars at night while roasting marshmallows and making s'mores on the fire pit. Pack a lunch and drive to Lassen National Volcanic Park to hike Mt. Lassen, Mt. Brokeoff, Kings Creek or Bumpass Hell. There are many lake, streams and miles of hiking trails to explore. Hat Creek, Lake McCumber, North Battle Creek Reservoir and Bailey Creek are great fishing spots and all within a short driving distance from this home. Other day trips might include wine tasting in the Shingletown/Manton areas, a trip to Redding's Sundial Bridge, shopping and restaurants, a visit to Burney Falls or golfing in Fallriver. This cozy cabin is the perfect getaway for a few friends, couples or a small family.

We were born and raised in northern California and have two grown sons. We love the outdoors and nature. Our favorite destinations are the mountains and the coast. We love hiking, fly fishing, hunting, snowshoeing, exploring the back roads and of course relaxing at the cabin with something cold to drink.
The Owner purchased this house in 2010
Being only 7 miles from Lassen Park, our rental is the closest and it is the perfect location for anyone wanting to visit and explore this unique area. Getting away from the crowds and enjoying clean mountain air are two great reasons to visit our cabin. This is a true mountain cabin, uniquely decorated, but with all the comforts of home. The cabin is surrounded by forestland ready to be hiked and explored. You can also relax on the front deck or BBQ out back and watch the wildlife while listening to the sounds of rushing water. On most star filled nights you can look for the big dipper or other constellations or watch for satellites and falling stars. There are streams and lakes to be fished just a short distance from the cabin.
The cabin itself is very nice, but the the noise from the P.A. system and the amplified music coming from the kids' camp across the road made this a very disappointing stay for my wife and I.
We regularly rent cottages in the UK and Europe and this was our first rental in the USA. We were all mightily impressed and I got lots of praise for finding it! It is certainly a place with character, both from the log cabinish feel to the building and from the attention to the "vintage" detail to the interior. The vintage cooking range was particularly impressive. The Lucky Pinecone is also provided with every appliance (and condiments etc!) you could possibly need for self catering, both in the kitchen and outdoors, with the biggest gas barbecue I have ever seen! The setting in the woods is lovely, both by day and in the evening. The photos on the website are accurate, but actually don't do justice to the feel of the place once you are inside, somehow it was even better than the photos. It was completely clean and tidy when we arrived.
Shingletown is nearby for food and gas(petrol) should you need them. Two good grocery stores, one very good with a cafe for breakfast & lunch.
All in all we had a brilliant few days at the lucky Pinecone and would highly recommend it to any fit families or groups of adults. The stairs mean that it would not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems.
This is a wonderfully rustic cottage just outside of Lassen Volcanic Park (which is amazing for hiking , lake swimming, cycling, walking , sight-seeing...). It was really well-stocked, quirkily decorated and there were so many DVDs we could have spent all our time watching films! We only spent three days here but would have happily spent all summer in this lovely, spacious cottage and all the surrounding nature. We would most definitely come again!!!!
We really enjoyed our stay at the lucky pinecone. The owners are very detail-oriented. Not only was the cabin beautifully and comfortable furnished, it was very well stocked with everything we needed to have a memorable cabin experience. They even had graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows for us to roast smores over their firepit. The location was perfect. It is a type of place made just for relaxing and exploring the area.
What a gem in the woods! Really clean, stocked with BBQ, Firepit and everything you need to make your meals. I would really recommend this cabin to other families. I think August would be the ideal time to go visit Lassen Park and enjoy some wine on the patio. Families with small children should be aware a rapid water drain is near the cabin and should watch them closely. Overall we can't wait to come back and visit!
What a cute, cozy cabin in the mountains. We had the most awesome weekend exploring snowy Lassen Park. My boyfriend loved fishing Lake McCumber. The cabin was very comfortable and private. The sound of water from a waterfall behind the cabin was a nice surprise. We can hardly wait to retrun for another stay!
