My husband and I walked into The Yellow Door cottage last year and I fell in love with it! I always wanted to own a little beach cottage and this one spoke to me.
We purchased The Yellow Door in February 2013 and began working on it immediately. The cottage was totally renovated. New paint throughout, granite counter tops, new stove, tankless water heater, and big storage unit in the kitchen for dishes, food, etc. The bathroom floor was replaced with retro looking ceramic tile and granite topped with a vessel that looks pretty beachie to me! The bedroom was totally remodeled; removing the large closet and replacing it with a large IKEA wardrobe. A new queen size antique iron bed replaced the double bed and a small TV was included on the wall. The not so new door to the bedroom will be replaced with a period 'french' door soon; maybe by the time you arrive! The large glass panes will be covered in rice paper to provide privacy while letting light pass through.
The cottage has ceilings that are just shy of 10', giving that very open feeling. It's bright (4 windows in the living room alone!) and a window in every other room, including the hallway.
We've had a great time renovating this property and will be working on the yard, which is soooo large and prime for planting wonderful flowers and shrubs. Planned for the future is a screen room for summer meals and a hammock for napping! There is a lot of work to do in the yard.
There is a lot of space for parking your cars, jet skis, and boats, and we're working on killing the weeds and getting the gravel back in the driveway. We're almost there. All the gravel has been removed that covered the sidewalk in front of the cottage.
Please join us in loving this little cottage as much as we love it! It is very sweet and we've had the best time (Ok, I probably had more fun than Paul) renovating!
Andi Gabler purchased this cottage in 2013
If you're traveling as a couple or with 1 or 2 children, why rent something large that you don't need? The Yellow Door Cottage only has 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom (with tub) and has a comfortable, queen-size sofa bed in the living room. Everything in the cottage was just renovated, so clean, clean, clean.
There is lots of room in the driveway for your jet skis and parking, which is always at a premium at the beach. We are within walking distance of everything on the beach.
Located on the Point, you can see the Potomac River and Monroe Bay from the porch in the Fall/Winter, and from the sidewalk during the Summer. And, you can walk to the cute restaurants and shops. We're a block away from The Lighthouse Restaurant with Thai French food to die for!
If cute is what you're looking for, this is the place!
Parking, parking, parking! If you've been to Colonia Beach, you know how tough it is to park. The Yellow Door Cottage has great off-street parking for cars, jet skis, or a boat.
Located on the Point, we're within walking distance of everything that is happening during the summer. This is the place to be for location and comfort!
While the weather wasn't perfect, the cottage was, and I enjoyed my stay so much that I didn't want to leave! It is centrally located and easy to walk to the beach, shops, restaurants, and Denson's grocery, which has the best ice cream in town. I look forward to another opportunity to stay here. Thanks, Andi, for making it such a treat!
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. The place is clean with touches of quality throughout-- thick sheets and towels, nicely decorated and very comfortable. We especially liked the area for the quiet. There are a few restaurants around. We ate at the Thai restaurant. It was very good and the food was not too salty. There are antique and consignment stores nearby. It's a great area if you just want to unwind and relax. We just loved the cottage! Just big enough with all the comforts of home. We would consider going back. As a suggestion: the cottage could use some folding luggage racks maybe to set up in the hall.
What a darling cottage! For a small place, Yellow Door has everything you need and more! This cottage is beautifully decorated, very clean and conveniently located near the public beach and downtown restaurants. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch, waving to passers-by and chatting with locals and weekenders - everyone is so friendly! We will most definitely be staying at Yellow Door again! PS - The beds, including the sofa bed, are VERY comfortable!
The yellow door cottage was a pleasure to stay in. It is a very well kept property with every detail thought of. The surrounding town was very quiet for a beach town which was not quite what we expected but the cottage itself was wonderful! Everything was very convenient to get to. Thank you for sharing your beach home with us. -The Lyon Family
We had a great memorial weekend stay at the Yellow Door Cottage. It was perfect for my boyfriend and I and I was amazed by truly how perfect our visit was. This property was the best we've ever rented. The location is prime for everything in colonial beach and it was nice to be able to walk anywhere (lighthouse restaurant - thai, yum!, dennison's grocery and the beach for a start). The cottage itself was quaint, cozy and a wonderful place to call a home away from home with every amenity you'd need. The bed was super comfortable & Andi didn't cut a single corner with this remodel. We'll absolutely be back! I highly recommend you stay here if visiting the area - you certainly won't regret it. :)
The Yellow Door is a true reflection of the owners personality, absolutely charming. The owners have thought of everything one might need to enjoy their stay. The bed and the sofa bed are so comfortable! Always had plenty of hot water for showers. The cottage is ideally located in the heart of Colonial Beach. It's an easy walk to everything. No golf cart needed, unless you want to add the charm to your adventure. I highly recommend an early morning jog/walk along the east shore as well as an after dinner dip at the beach. Gorgeous! Denson's had a great burger and the ice cream is as good as everyone says. If you have kids or feel a bit artistic, Pottery by Hand is worth a visit. Hannah, the owner, treated us like family and set us up with one of her personal classes. Actually, everyone we encountered was really friendly. Right down to the cashier at Dollar General who had a discussion with me on eating an oreo. He made me smile. Colonial beach and the Yellow Door was just what we needed to get away.
The boardwalk is such fun! There are events all season with an Art Crawl every 2nd Friday! A fun beach to relax upon, great restaurants to eat, a quiet street to visit. The shopping is funky and fun!
Within walking distance of everything at Colonial Beach. We know you'll enjoy your stay.
