A really nice 3 Br 2.5 bath colonial nestled between two mountains. New central AC installed 5/12.
Relax on the porch and enjoy the views and singing of the birds. Play outside with the children in our large yard [ sledding in winter ] . The road we live on is private and has very little traffic and is nice for an early morning walk.
All bedrooms are upstairs : The large master has a log bed with antique dressers; there is a private bathroom. BR 2 has two twin beds with an antique dresser . BR 3 has a queen bed with antique dresser. Both share a bath which is locatd in the hall.
Downstairs is a nice country kitchen with a new propane stove and microwave . I recently installed new counters and a stone sink. The dining room has an antique table that sits six as well as a beautiful hutch.
The large living room has a gas fireplace and beautiful furnishings including an antique couch and several chairs. The half bath is located downstairs off the living room .
The home is very well apportioned and is very comfortable to live in.
Keywords: Easy Access. Colonial home decorated with beautiful antiques . Large yard wiith parking for 4 cars . In town yet very private on dead end road ; safe for pets and children. Year round access :1/2 mile from Ghost Town ; 4 miles to Cataloochee Ski Area; 2 miles to ;Blue Ridge Pky; National Park 20 min.
Sherri and I [ Gideon ] have been married for 44 years. We have 5 children and 6 grandchildren.I am a retired carpenter and enjoy skiing,, surfing ,and astronomy. Sherri is a homemaker and an accomplised ventriloquist. We split our time between Maine, NC, and Florida.
We are both commited Christians and spent several years in the mission field.
The Owner purchased this house in 2007
We chose Maggie Valley because of its driving distance to our winter home in Florida. Its mild winters and cool summers were attractions.
We picked this home because of its quiet location at the end of a dead end road ; we have grand children and wanted a safe location for them to play outside. The year round access was an important considereration as I enjoy skiing . The location of the home in proximity to both skiing , the Blue Ridge Pky and National Park were important to us. Also being in town and having access was a plus [ no 20 minute drives down mountain roads for a quart of milk !
I enjoy hiking , and there is an abundance of great trails in the area. Mall shopping and movies etc. are a very short drive to Waynesville. Maggie Valley itself has lots of restaurants and things to do for the family.
The home itself is nicely decorated with antiques and nice furry animals . It has a homey feeling , not that ' generic rental unit ' feeling that many rentals have.
It has a very large quite level yard for the children to play in . The large screened in porch is great for relaxing outside and enjoying the view.
Probably the most unique feature is that there is parking for up to five cars . There is a nice pond down the private road that has a nesting pair of swans in season. A fishing stream runs along the subdivision border as well.
The home was clean and comfortable. We had record cold and snow during our trip, but we stayed warm and cozy. While the heat was catching up from being cut back while vacant, there were plenty of blankets. The extras from staying in a home versus a rental were very appreciated. Our kids enjoyed to monopoly and scrabble. The yard was great for our snowball fight. The skiing and tubing were also awesome. The only downside of the trip was that a lot of restaurants in Maggie Valley were closed until Spring, but drive a little further to Waynesville and there were plenty of options. Angelo's Family Pizza and Pasta has excellent garlic balls and great specials!
* This was Mr Knapps first email correspondence to me 8:00pm last night
(the day of our departure). My replies to his rude remarks will be outlined in bold print.
I just had a call from my housekeeper , Rhonda . Apparently you brought your large dog to our home ,
--- I did not bring my large dog into your home. That was actually my handicap cousin, he does require a harness, so that he does not wander off from his older mother.
in addition it chewed up our stuffed moose from the second floor .
---Yes, I believe that to be true, my cousin did this as well, not my dog. Other family members suggested I take take the chewed up moose or throw it away, as it couldn't be possibly be missed among the other tacky decorations that your home included. I chose to take the high road and face whatever consequences may be thrown my way.
She found your dog`s collar, and the chewed up moose behind the tree in the living room .
---AGAIN, this has been previously explained.
You told me that you were leaving the dog home .
You owe me $75 for the pet fee plus $25 for the moose .
---- No pet. I'm prepared to compensate for the destroyed (tacky) moose
You can remit this payment to my Pay Pal account which you have a record of . This is the first time [ out of more than 100 rentals ] that anyone has brought a dog without paying for it .
And this is his second corespondency to me on Feb 16, 2015. The day after departure. SO he had TWO days to concoct this story, unless the housekeeper decided to capitalize on the small misfortunes that actually did occur.
I regret ever renting to you . How many people came up ?
---- There were actually two less adults than we had originally planned. In total, we had 4 adults and 3 children in the house. As I mentioned in our previous correspondence, we were here for our mothers wedding and on Saturday evening we had about 15 people in the house to host a small reception.
Dog crap on our nice red quilt ,
---My handicap cousin got a little muddy and when we attempted to clean him he jumped on the master bed. Thats your "dog crap". I immediately took the bedding to rinse and wash to prevent any further staining or "messing up".
the house a mess ;
--- We adhered to all policies posted on the your refrigerator note, i.e. bedding to be stripped an placed in bath tubs - DONE. Dishes to be placed in dishwasher - DONE. Trash taken out and placed into outdoor receptacles - DONE. mattre
This was our 2nd year staying at the Knapp's house. We will not stay anywhere else when we visit Maggie Valley we have made fabulous family memories there partly because their house is so warm and inviting and pet friendly. Hopefully we will being making more great family memories there next Christmas.
Great place to stay. We have stayed in 6-8 cabins/homes in the area and this is the best. New, roomy and immaculate. It's the only one we've stayed at twice and we will come again.
This was our third time staying at this home and it was just as great as it was the other times here. It is so peaceful and relaxing, but close to so many places; the best of both worlds. I highly recommend staying here to anyone. It is a gorgeous, spacious home, with everything that we needed. Looking forward to our next time here.
We stayed here for a family getaway for 5 nights. The home was very accommodating. Exactly as described in the listing. We enjoyed walking around the neighbor hood. It was very quiet and relaxing. I would recommend this home for anyone wanting a nice place to relax and enjoy the views. It's also very close to town.
Ghost Town and Tubing World 1/4 mile . Downhill Skiing only 5 miles away . The Biltmore and Ashville amenities only 20 minutes . Smoky Mt. National Park only 20 minutes. Access to the beautiful Blue Ridge Pky 2 miles. Home is in Maggie Valley town , yet very private at end of road . Very safe for children and pets as virtually no traffic. Very quiet as the neighbors are all retirees.
