The Villa is divided into 4 private studio apartments, all with spectacular ocean views in a tropical beachfront setting. Accommodates everyone from individuals to big groups. Close to all the action but still relaxed and peaceful, the area is a hidden gem just a short walk from all the shops, restaurants, and night life of Leblon and 5-10 minutes by taxi to Ipanema and Copacabana. Prices vary depending on the apartment. Ask for rates during, Christmas, Carnaval, and the World Cup.
I'm am American originally from Orlando, Florida and I've been living in the beautiful, exciting city for 9 years.
I've done a lot of travelling and for me, Rio is the most beautiful city in the world and anyone who comes to visit deserves to wake up every morning with a breathtaking ocean view!
The location of the house is absolutely unique because although it is close to all the action, you have the feeling that you are set apart in a hidden tropical paradise, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Jake was an excellent host! My experience was great, the place looks just like the pictures and the views are excellent. The beds were comfortable and clean perfect for relaxing after watching world cup games. Location is a little far from the action of Copacabana and Ipanema but in less than 10 minute walk you will enjoy a beautiful scenery and the beaches of Leblon. Lastly, I recommend the moto taxi tour it was great, exciting, and you will get to experience some of the local views. I definitely recommend this place and Jake.
This cool villa is perched amid lush greenery at the base of Morro Dois Irmãos just across the street from the Sheraton Rio. It is a fairly large house split into a number of apartments and with shared patios on three different levels, each with fantastic views of the ocean and the hummingbirds and the local monkeys. The apartments here are quirky and cozy rather than cold and sterile, and the vibe is very chill. The kitchens are compact but sufficient, the beds are comfortable and clean, and the internet is fast and consistent. The sunrise is incredible every morning, and the afternoon brings a light breeze and lovely temperatures until sunset (at least this was the case in May - another reviewer notes that it can be quite warm in Rio at other times of year and that the a/cs are very useful then). We walked frequently to Leblon beach, and the space in between offers wonderful vantage points as well and is a really great short walk on its own. If you don't feel like walking, the bus that goes straight up and down the beach picks up just outside. We also recommend trying a pastel and copa de cana at the small plaza west of the apartment some Friday afternoon. Jake is an awesome host - responsive, communicative, interested in making sure his guests have everything they need but also respectful of space and privacy. He even met us after midnight for our arrival without any hesitation when we were delayed due to car trouble. We definitely recommend a stay with him in any of his listings!
We had a fabulous Rio experience staying at Apartment 4. Jake was not around the day we arrived (our flight was delayed) but he sent Adam, a friendly resident in the house, to meet us and show us around, and he made sure to check in with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. The location is simply ideal, a short 10-minute walk from Leblon beach, and with the minivan buses running every few minutes from the bus stop at the bottom of the stairs for a mere $1.50 flat rate it is fast, easy and cheap to go to Ipanema, Copacabana, Leme, etc. From our bedroom window we had a gorgeous view of Ipanema beach, and the main window overlooked the ocean at the hotel-resort across the street (great place to get an excellent morning latte before a quick swim or heading out for the day). The quaint house has lots of charm (we really loved the three patios, the outdoor shower, and the Copacabana-patterned tiles on the stairs). Free wireless was a great bonus to check out places to go out for eating, drinking, and music. We would definitely come back to Jake's house. And the price was right too!
Our place did not look anything like the photos. The photos showed a crisp, clean unit. Upon arrival we were disappointed to find a run down looking building, dirty walls, cheap furniture, mildew smelling drawers, stained sheets, smelly towels , bathroom smelled bad, and the kitchen was ill equipped, not even a coffee cup. Also, there was no blanket should one be needed.
The A/C did not work properly: Very little cooling effect.
As far as customer service, we didn't hear from Jake once during our stay. We called about the TV not working. He said he wasn't available until the next day.
This ad should come with a warning that the location is not only a long climb from the street but then there's an even longer climb to the unit. Beware if you are not physically fit.
There are no attractions, activities or restaurants in the immediate vicinity other than at the Sheraton Hotel, where we found a breakfast buffet at R57.
Would not recommend.
I traveled to Rio with my son who recently graduated from college; this was his graduation gift. Our stay at Jake's place was very, very nice. We were there for 6 days. The view was unbelievable. The location was perfect. We ate breakfast several mornings at the Sheraton across the street which was nice and reasonable. We walked to Ipanema beach a couple of times; it was only about 20 minutes away. The market was nearby and you could practically touch the beach. We will definitely be back and I hope that this place is available again whenever either my son or I go back to Rio. It would be nice if the kitchen were better stocked. It is a very nice kitchen, but the utensils, plates etc... are pretty scarce and limit the cooking that you can do. The market is so close that we shopped and cooked a few times, but definitely would have done more if it had been possible.
I have a large oceanfront house that is divided into 7 private studio apartments that can be rented individually or together for groups. It is located in a beautiful, tropical, safe area 100 meters from the Sheraton Resort Hotel in Upper Leblon, across the street from the beach and near to all the shops, restaurants, and nightlife of Leblon, Ipanema, and Copacabana.
