This desirable oceanfront penthouse unit (with elevator) features spacious open beam ceilings and is only 30 feet from the gentle surf lapping directly below the lanai, where surfers launch into the spectacular blue waves of Banyans Beach, one of Kona’s most popular surfing spots. This beautifully remodeled and furnished condo features an oceanfront living room and master bedroom with unparalleled 180 degree ocean views and access to spectacular Kona sea life and sunsets. Your cares dissolve away as warm sun and soothing surf caress your mind and body on the unique ironwood-framed teak lanai in your comfortable teak steamer chairs or hammock. Enjoy the brilliant blue skies, colorful Hawaiian reef fish, green sea turtles, Humpback whales, spinner dolphins and surfers right from your lanai. In the quiet evening, relax on your lanai and experience the amazing reds and oranges of a spectacular Kona sunset as the huge orb descends into the sea through the softly waving palm fronds. Luxuriate in the newly remodeled master bathroom and shower with multiple shower heads, double sinks and contemporary tile work. The beautiful bamboo hardwood floors throughout, well stocked kitchen with granite countertops, wine cooler and contemporary cabinets and upscale Hawaiian-themed furnishings will make you wish you never had to leave. During the day, slide the 12’-wide doors between the master bedroom and living room into the wall pocket to enjoy an unrestricted panoramic ocean view from throughout the living area. At night, leave the lanai doors open in the oceanfront master bedroom and living room and be lulled to sleep by the ceaseless caress of the waves on the worn lava rocks below. Gentle ocean breezes keep you cool day and night whether snoozing on the lanai, entertaining friends in your oceanfront paradise or sleeping soundly in your king-size bed (click on 'More Details' to see all the unit amenities).

We are native Oregonians and began vacationing in Hawaii about 20 years ago. We loved the islands so much we came back more and more often. We initially bought a one-bedroom condo in 2006 at Kona Bali Kai, across the street from the beach with no ocean view. We live on the Oregon coast, but rarely go to the beach; so, when we decided to buy a larger condo we wanted to be right on the beach - and you can't get any closer than our condo at Kona Bali Kai. We love sharing Hawaii with our kids, grandkids and many friends.

Mike Gaudette purchased this condo in 2007

We live on the often rainy Oregon coast and didn't want to come to Hawaii and be in the rain. The dry Kona coast is perfect for our vacations. And the nearly constant trade winds keep our condo cool day and night. Kona Bali Kai is perfectly situated along Ali'i Drive. It's close enough to old town Kailua-Kona for a refreshing walk into town, but not close enough to have a lot of unwanted traffic or commercial activity. And, of course, you can't get any closer to the beach than at the Kona Bali Kai and where else can you watch surfers and sea life all day long from your lanai?

We love our 4th floor unit with open-beam ceilings that create a feeling of spaciousness We love that the 12' doors separating the living room from the master bedroom disappear completely into the wall during the day (no other unit at Kona Bali Kai has this feature) so that there is a panoramic view of the ocean and surfers from anywhere in the unit. We love the way the sun sets every night right between the palm trees off our lanai and how we can sit on the lanai and watch surfers, whales (in season) and turtles. One of the most unusual features of our unit is the teak lanai framed in Hawaiian ironwood and bamboo hardwood floors throughout the unit.. The newly remodeled master bath and walk-in shower features your choice of an adjustable shower head on the wall or a drenching rain head in the ceiling, dual cabinets and sinks, and an elongated toilet. We love to play games and spend time at the beach in Hawaii, so the unit is fully equipped with games and beach accessories, including children's play toys.

Great Kona Vacation Condo

We loved our one-week stay in this beautiful condo. From early morning until sunset we enjoyed sitting on the lanai enjoying meals, snacks, sunsets, and the incredible views. There was a constant group of surfers out from morning until almost dark. Everything you need is there, including a well-stocked kitchen, beach towels, games, three TVs, and guide books. Mike's recommendations of sights to see and restaurants to visit were right on. We never lacked for things to do. With the lanai doors open and fans in every room we were very comfortable at all times. We could watch the waves crashing on the beach all day long, and even saw some turtles on the lava. An extra bonus was the worship service at the park next door.

This place is in the center of Kona. The complex has swimming pool, BBQ grill and right in front of the beach. The unit is very well maintained and very comfortable. Thank you Mike. I would come again.

This condo was fabulous! This was our first experience renting a condo, so we were a bit leery, but the owner made everything a breeze. After staying at 2 other locations (large hotel and B&B) during our stay on the Big Island, we realized just how amazing the location of the condo and view really is. Each morning we woke up to the sound of the waves and opened the curtains to whales jumping and tropical fish in the tide pools. We ate our breakfast on the lanai, watching whales and surfers right out front. We saw numerous turtles right in front of the condo and enjoyed grilling out right on the ocean while watching spectacular sunsets. The condo was decorated very comfortably and although it wasn't too hot, the fans were so nice to have. The kitchen was updated and we had everything we needed to cook all of our meals. Although the condo's building itself could use some updating (especially the elevator), we realized just how nice this unit was when we walked past a few other units and glanced inside. If we come back to the Big Island, this is where we'll stay!

NIce place on Ali'i drive. Nicely updated. Great view with a constant stream of surfers to watch. Lots of beach accessories included which was very much appreciated. The Poke restaurant at Kona Bali Kai is one of those hole in the wall amazing places that locals form big lines for. It's a great place to eat and a nice bonus for this rental--convenient good food. Pool is heated. Still can get cold after a while, but not bad. Unfortunately after the pool drops your body temperature, the hot tub would be nice (especially at night), but they don't allow kids under 12 in the hot tub. After the kids started to shiver in the pool, they started to cry when the couldn't get in the hot tub to warm up.

The bad: No A/C. We knew this going in, but assumed the breezes would help. They did provide some cooling but only when it was cold enough outside that cooling wasn't needed. About 5 of the 7 days we were in the unit, we had to take numerous showers just to try to cool down. This will be the last time we will ever stay in a place in Hawaii with no A/C. We were way too hot.
Owner's Response: While there is no air conditioning in our unit, we typically leave the lanai doors open (on the oceanfront) and the kitchen windows open (on the mauka end of the unit) and ocean breezes blow through the screened doors and window all day and night. The four ceiling fans in the living room, kitchen, master bedroom and guest bedroom also keep the unit cool during the days and nights.

The location of this property is very close to shopping, harbours and nightlife. There is a little convenience store across the street which sold everything from food to liquor which is nice to not have to jump into your car every time you are out of something. The condo is well maintained, comfortable and well stocked with everything you need. The huge balcony makes this property more attractive with its view of the ocean, whales, surfers and turtles. In the 11 days we were there we ate every meal outside. Highly recommend.
