We are an English family who have been living in France for 20 years. We have 2 daughters and 1 son, 2 dogs and 3 cats and we live next door to the Gîte.
The Owner purchased this house in 2004
We bought this house as it offered us the opportunity to get in to the holiday rentals business, which both my wife and I wanted to do.
The house is located in a very quiet corner of our pretty village, Fleury-en-Bière, and is a short walk from the excellent bakery and a beautiful private chateau located within the village.
We stayed in this beautiful gite with our 3 children. The photos do not do it justice as the gite is immaculate, spacious and homely. We had a lot of fun in the area, walking, climbing and shopping. There is a lot to do which does not involve much planning or travelling. The children loved the forest and rock climbing. The owners were very helpful, having immense knowledge of the area and gave us great advice helping us to really get a lot from our stay. We are all very keen to come back.
We had the most marvellous week in this great Gite. The Gite is actually much more spacious than it appears in the photos and the owners are perfectly charming, couldn't have been more helpful and know all the best addresses within miles. The house is ideally situated for all the great climbing hot spots in the Forest of Fontainebleau as well as very convenient for driving into Fontainebleau or Milly La Foret. We would definitely come back!
We stayed in the cottage last July and enjoyed our stay immensely. The village is charming with a large Chateau. There are many walks in and around the village as well as in the famous forest of Fontainebleau. We found lots to do: climbing, riding, sightseeing in Fontainebleau. It is also only a short train ride away from central Paris from nearby stations of Bois le Roi and Fontainebleau so you can have the best of both worlds. The village is also close to the painters' village of Barbizon with it's museums and great restaurants.
The cottage was well furnished and spotlessly clean and maintained. The grounds are lovely and we often sat outside in the quiet courtyard. The British owners live next door and were very helpful and welcoming.
We will come again!
I have stayed here twice, last October and before that in the spring. We had wonderful walks, runs and climbs in the nearby forest, nice lunches in Barbizon, coffee in Fontainbleau and Milly...The house has a nice feel to it - open plan kitchen, comfy living room. Nicely decorated in neutral colors. Big, clean modern bathrooms. The house is easy to live in, it has an enclosed garden so it was safe for our children; there is even a climbing wall and a trampoline (with a net). The owners live nearby, but you are totally private and can't be overlooked (it's just nice to know they are there if needed but in fact we didn't need them but had nice chat on our last day). We also had a great day at Vaux-le-Vicomte chateau (amazing) and the chateau in Fontainbleau (as good as Versailles without all the coachloads of tourists!)
We had a wonderful week staying here last July. The property was very pretty, immaculately clean and very comfortable. I don't think the photos do it justice! The owners were charming and very welcoming. Being British but having lived in France for 20 years, they were able to answer all our questions very comprehensively. The town of Fontainebleu is full of superb restaurants and shops and we particularly enjoyed our visit to Milly-la-Foret where they have a 'real French' market which is held in an authentic covered 'halle'. All in all I would recommend this gite to anyone as a beautiful place to stay with lots to do round and about.
