I am the Great grand daughter of Gus and Anna Spitzmiller, original Pioneers to Grand Lake. Gus was a plumber and his son Gordon married my Grandma Barbara. My dad, Chris Lorens, left the property to me when he died in 2008, and I have been making it 'top flight' since. I am a proud Colorado Mountain Woman, who now resides in San Diego, but spends lots of time where my roots are, i.e. Grand Lake.

Owner/Property Manager purchased this cabin in 1910

It is full of soul and history and it is sooo beautiful!!!

Sits on colo river where it enters Shadow mtn. lake. I bet the Ntl Forest and Park Service--who own all the bordering land--wish they had taken this side of the river too, when they confiscated the Park land up here in the early 1900's.

Fully remodeled and luxury--through and through.

There really is not a property that compares in the Grand Lake region. Because you are on a 6 ac. meadow bordered by the river and lake--and have all protected land across from you--there really isn't a location in the entire County that compares with this one! The view alone is worth a billion dollars$$$

Perfect for a relaxing get away in Grand Lake!

  • 5 of 5
Cabin was just right! Ready and waiting for us to arrive! Enjoyed the easy access to Hwy 34 and Grand Lake! Used as a base camp for Tubing, Snowmobiling and fun fun fun! A nice moose stopped by for coffee on our departure morning and peaked in the windows to make sure we were ready to head down the road in a timely fashion! Will try this place again in the spring!!!

Cute cabin by the river

  • 5 of 5
We were very pleased with our stay at Tracee's cabin. The cabin is a mix of old and new. New kitchen, new bathroom, old (gorgeous!) wood burning fire-place and a historic cabin. We have two boys (3 and 5) and they were thrilled with the fire pit and playground. We had plenty of space to play and explore. Some great extras: lots of firewood, many places to sit and contemplate, easy access to town, a sound of the river right out of your porch, and plenty of places to throw endless sticks for the dog and rocks for the boys. Day 3, we decided to go out on the lake and Tracee responded within minutes to my email for directions to the kayak. Since everything was closed for the winter in Grand Lake, we were happy to have the option to take the boys out on the Lake. I also recommend the hike around Monarch Lake. We saw four moose and the colors were gorgeous. On our second day, my 5 year old declared he never wanted to leave! If you are traveling with little ones, I would recommend bringing paper/plastic products since the cabin has only dishes and glass. Especially if you plan on eating outdoors. Tracee - I looked for a baking sheet and a colander! Couldn't find them....would be a great addition to the kitchen if you are looking for improvements! We will definitely come back to the cabin next time we travel to Grand Lake. Great place to stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you Amy. I am so glad you enjoyed our little piece of Heaven.

The colander and baking sheet will be there by tomorrow--in all my cabins! How did I miss those items? So sorry!

Thanks for the tip.

absolutely charming

  • 5 of 5
My family and I stayed at this lovely cabin for a quick weekend getaway from the Denver area. The kids had an absolute blast fishing in the river that is merely steps from the house. There was plenty of space for the kids to run around and explore, plus lots of seating areas for the adults to enjoy the river or relax by the fire we built in the outdoor fire pit. The cabin was well appointed, tastefully decorated and comfortable. The fact that there was no TV was a non-factor as the kids were so happy playing outside. There was even a swing set for the little ones to enjoy. The cabin is also very conveniently located to the town of Grand Lake, where we rented a boat for the day, enjoyed some ice cream and even bowled at the local bowling alley while enjoying some delicious pizza. Tracee was an absolute pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend this sweet cabin for anyone who wants to experience a little slice of heaven in the Grand lake area.

Awesome host

  • 5 of 5
Some friends and I stayed at Tracee's place over this summer. It would probably be smart for me to write something negative so as to keep it hidden, it is impossible to find anything negative to say about this place - very close to the lake, right next to the river that feeds the lake, great cabin with lots of amenities, and lots of firewood (very important for me and my friends). On top of all of this, Tracee was an absolutely awesome host. She even took some photos of us and forwarded them on. She was super accommodating and friendly. I highly recommend this place and getting to know Tracee!

Fantastic Family vacation

  • 5 of 5
Being from Iowa the setting of this small community is breathtaking! The Cabin was very nice with all needed linens and dishes there for our use. The river that runs next to the cabin was shallow, my boys would just walk across to the other side (maybe 15 feet) to get to the spot they wanted to fish from at the mouth of the lake, unfortunately we didn't have any luck with the fish but we had a blast. The Kayak was a lot of fun and we did get to see "Bob" the resident beaver and lots of Pelicans and many ducks etc. We spent one evening driving through the Rocky Mountain National Park and seen a few Moose and there was a whole heard of Elk that was just walking amongst the tourists vehicles on the highway as we got close to the top, was an amazing experience. The town is very tourist friendly with lots of small shops and restaurants, the only compaints would be that things are a bit pricey being that the businesses obviously make most of there money during the summer months to survive the rest of the year and the Mexican restaurant we ate at one night "El Pacifico" I believe is the name was more like fast food quality for sit down dining pricing but the Pizza place was very good and the "Dairy King" was very good as well.

Overall we loved our vacation and Tracee was a super host, she made sure that everything was to our liking and took care of any requests we made.

We would love to come back again!

Disappointed

  • 2 of 5
We were very disappointed with this property, and very surprised at the previous review. In fact, I know that the people in the cabin next to ours (same owner/location) felt the same way that we did.
When we drove in to the "meadow" we actually drove right past the cabin, because no one in the car could believe that this was actually called a "meadow". Right next to the busy road and very poorly maintained property. The river does run along the property, but it is impossible to see because there are so many bushes between the cabin and the river, making fishing along the bank impossible. There is NO WAY you could practically fish from your deck, as the owner describes.
The unit had no microwave, no toaster (as stated in the description) and very few cooking utensils. There were not enough blankets for the futon. Worst of all, the hot water heater continually went out and we were often left to light it ourselves or take cold showers.
Not enough cupboards in the kitchen and nearly no drawers in the bedrooms.
The pictures that you see are deceptive in regards to the location. The person fishing in the pictures isn't on the property, but across the river from the property. Getting to the one kayak that was available was inconvenient because it was not on the property.
We have stayed at many homeaway rentals and this was, by far, the most disappointing.

Owner's Response: I was shocked and so sad when I read this, as I speak to all my renters during their stays and Ms. Julie C. told me she loved the cabin. I am a perfectionist and if a guest needs anything it is done--and very quickly. The pilot light under the water heater was fixed w/in 2 hours of reading her review. It was blowing out on windy days. I didn't know she had trouble though, until I read this, as she didn't say a word while there. The futon part troubles me, as it is brand new--has linens--and she took the unit for the futon to save $100.00/night. I have lots of really fine linens, and comforters. Sometimes people come with a lot more guests than they list on their registration form, but I don't ask them to leave or pay more, I just deliver more linens--as was done here w/in 1 hour of her arrival and call. True--there aren't any overhead cupboards in the kitchen. We went with windows instead, due to gorgeous river 50 feet out your windows. BUT there are pots, pans, silverware for 12, all new, and a buffet in the dinette--just off the kitchen- w/ really nice china for 8, a antique dining table and new BBQ. There is a large dresser--6 drawer, and 3 full closets. There are night stands with drawers next to each bed. There is a toaster and the microwave did break--even though new--but another new one is in.
As for the "busy road right next to the cabin"--it is about 2 city blocks away. You drop off Hwy 34--the road you come to Grand Lake on--down into my meadow. It is a 6 ac. meadow, and the cabin is at the far end by the river. It must be at least 2 city blocks from the road. You just can't please everyone. Most people worry about it not being way out and 10 miles to town. It is off the road, 2 miles town, and as marked on the vrbo "location" map.
Fishing--well most people fish right from my meadow--or off my kayak--and fish are plentiful. The Kayak is not way away from the property, as Ms. Julie C. implies. I had a canoe and kayak. The canoe was stolen from the meadow, so I keep the kayak at my brother's house--just outside the meadow. It is a 3 minute walk from the cabin. It is where one would enter to kayak any way, as it is where the river enters the lake at the wetlands, and is where most haul their kayaks and canoes to enter - safe for your children and my kayak! Maybe I take her comments too personally. They were posted right after she tried to get a security deposit back from me she did not pay. I am truly sorry she did not like my property.

The property faces the Colo river where it meets the wetlands and Shadow Mtn Lake. You look to open Forest Service land and then gorgeous peaks. Kayak with the Osprey, etc.

The town borders Rocky Mtn Ntl Park and is located on the highest natural glacier formed lake in Colo, and has the highest yacht club in the world.
