About The Owner

Love Dogs (Miss Ella is our 13 yr old Golden Retriever), Travel, Reading, Music, laughter with friends, and good times.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2011

Why The Owner chose Caye Caulker

We have been coming to Caulker since 1999 and fell in love with the small island, warm people, tropical breezes, and slow, relaxing atmosphere. It just felt right. It's close to great fishing, snorkeling, diving, and mainland excursions.

What makes this cottage unique

AM ritual: Morning coffee on the upper viranda, watching the local birds and pelicans dive for bait -waiting to see what the day brings.

PM ritual: Coctails on the upper viranda, watching the sunset, sailboats, and the local birds..waiting for the twinkling stars to appear.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved our 5 nightws @ Miss Ellas. What a charming little house off the beaten path. Our favorite thing about Ellas was the rooftop porch. Every night after dinner we would stop by the store for a few Belikins, go upstairs and enjoy the view and the cool nightime breeze.

Just OK

  • 3 of 5

Highlights of the place are the kitchen and the rooftop porch that overlooks the water. Great place for watching the sunsets (although a little table or foot rest would have made it even better). They also include potable water in a 5 gallon jug for you to use which was very nice. Caye Accomidations picked us up from the water taxi and took us to the place. It is a little bit off the beaten path so it is quieter than the Main Street but makes for a bit of a walk to get into town (especially if you want to spend time near the split). It is also located in more of a local residential neighborhood. Overall, a clean place and the owner and management company were both very responsive.

The primary con of the place and the main reason for the Average review is that the bed was very uncomfortable and you could feel the springs in your back. Also, the shower is quite small and the bathroom had a peculiar smell. The entrance to the place is not well maintained and somewhat over grown. We say all of this having stayed at 3 other places in this price range during our trip throughout Belize. It also would have also been nice to have access to a couple bikes to allow you to quickly go into town, check out the island, or get groceries. Many other places on the island offer this perk.

Owner's Response: Sorry Erin, didn't realize the mattress was an issue. We have ordered a new one, based on your feedback. The lane that may be overgrown is the city property, well ask them again to keep it cleaned...thank for your feedback, it helps us know what is important to the guests.

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

Such a charming place! We liked the fact that it was in the middle of a neighborhood and away from the touristy main road (as much as one can describe Caye Caulker as touristy, anyway!). We rented a golf cart for the week from the place behind us, and it made fetching groceries and beer much easier. We didn't have a problem with neighborhood dogs barking, but that's possibly because we have them at home, too. The one rain storm we had was really fun to listen to on the roof, and the occasional bird up there was amusing, not annoying. Great kitchen to cook up some of our own meals (and boy, the wi-fi sure helps you to look up good recipes for conch!). Very cozy place - we even spent one whole day "in" as it was cloudy and windy. We can't wait to come back to Miss Ella's - next time it will be for two weeks instead of one!!!

Our Stay at Miss Ella's Guest House

  • 4 of 5

This is a nice cottage, well equipped, comfortable to live in. We enjoyed the roof-top balcony during morning coffee breaks and especially at sunsets. At times, barking neighborhood dogs at night were really annoying.

Cute and cozy

  • 5 of 5

What a wondeful little house! Miss Ella's was truly a gem that we feel so lucky we got to stay in. The house was clean and had everything we needed. The roof deck was the highlight of our stay, we enjoyed our morning coffee there everyday as well as a belekin in the evening while stargazing. The house is cozy and inviting and we would recommend anyone to stay there!!
