PRIVATE, QUAINT BACKYARD COTTAGE BY UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS

Austin Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This bright and open 500 square foot cottage, sitting in a tree-shaded backyard includes a bedroom, vaulted ceilings in dining/living area, hand-made oak cabinetry, kitchen, bathroom with unique redwood shower which is open to the sky.

We are located 1/2 block from Hemphill Park just north of UT in a lovely, older neighborhood with large pecan trees, a creek, grassy areas for jogging, frisbee, football, basketball, and dog walking.

It is right off the north drag of the UT campus walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, bars, music venues, live theater, a local gym, grocery stores, video stores, shopping, museums, bike trails, with easy access to UT shuttle and city bus lines.

Why the Owner Chose North University: Year Purchased: 1986

Gene built this house himself originally to use as an office because with 4 children and a home business we were bursting at the seams. Our children are grown and gone, and with such a great city, neighborhood, street, it seems like the perfect place to share with others.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: The great benefit we enjoy is the completely central location. We are close to an amazing array of interesting places and activities. We are also a 5 minute drive from both IH-35 and Mopac making access to the greater Austin and Texas areas as convenient as possible.

Nevertheless, we live on a beautiful, peaceful street with a feeling of being removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cottage itself is beautifully constructed with built in oak cabinets and furnished with antiques, a king sized bed, and a homey atmosphere. A screened in garden house is a peaceful, private place to read and enjoy the outdoors.

About Patsy and Gene Tankersley

We bought our 86 year old house in 1986, and completely remodeled it. The cottage in our large backyard was built by Gene, architecturally in keeping with the original house. We came to Austin to go to the University of Texas, have lived in this neighborhood over 40 years. We love this area and think it's the best place to live in the entire state.

No need to look any further than this Austin gem!

  • 5 of 5
Everything about this location was charming, pretty, beautifully maintained, super clean, secure, and comfortable. The neighborhood was gorgeous -- and the neighbors were wonderful, too! (I accidentally pulled into the driveway two doors down, and the homeowner helped me find the cottage.)

The homeowners were very easy to work with. We really, truly could not have been more pleased with the owners, property, or location. We also had to practice some serious discipline not to steal their two adorable doggies! The pups were very, very well behaved so you don't need to worry if dogs aren't on your list of absolute obsessions like they are on ours.

The area is FULL of great little places to eat, a great co-op grocery store, and other Austin venues. We chose this one due to its proximity to The Spider House where our friend was getting married.

We'd recommend to anyone, and we hope to return!

Lovely, convenient, feels like home...

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in this beautiful cottage for opening weekend/my birthday. We were there for 3 days and enjoyed every minute of it. The cottage is large and comfortable. The bed is huge, the a/c is cold, and the outdoor shower is what I imagine God intended. Also, I got to play with a puppy. So basically it was all the great things in life. Easy walk to the stadium (less than a mile). Easy walk to Trudy's and Spiderhouse (like next door). On our first night, we decided to stay here every time we're in town.

We stayed here for three nights in July 2014. It is a beautiful place, and the outdoor shower was amazing. We would definitely stay here again. Lots of restaurants in walking distance.

Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5
My partner and I stayed here, returning to Austin after many years away. What a great place! Two of my hangouts as a broke student at UT were Trudy's and Miltos. Both right around the corner from this cottage, along with Wheatsville Co-op. Great location. Close to UT campus and everything along Guadalupe (including Amy's Ice Cream), yet feels very private and isolated from all the traffic around campus.
Gene and Patsy are wonderful people and considerate hosts. Friendly and helpful, but allowing as much privacy as you want. The backyard is landscaped and has a little gazebo. The back gate puts you one block from Trudy's and Spider House. Great coffee, music, and an assortment of Austin style food trucks.
The cottage was clean, well stocked, and comfortable. In fact, the cottage was very clean. A welcome thing, as we sometimes end up cleaning a bit when we first arrive at rental properties. The outdoor shower is novel and fun. We enjoyed it.
Obviously, highly recommending this property. We hope to come back to it ourselves. It would be one of the reasons to return to Austin.

Very charming escape from the hustle and bustle

  • 5 of 5
My partner and I fell in love with this quaint get-a-way and are sure to return many times over! The bungalow is within minutes of restaurants, pubs, and parks. It was stocked with fresh linens and all of the essentials. The outdoor shower was amazingly enjoyable! We have nothing but good things to say about this property. You’d be foolish to pass this one up!
