|Minimum Stay||2 - 5 nights|
I am a travel writer, who has hand-picked my favorite homes and apartments around the world and The Bali Buddha Villa is my tropical home away from home.
Living in the Bali Buddha Villa is like living in the Garden of Eden with a large lush flower-filled garden, salt water pool, lovely setting, and gorgeous rice paddy and jungle views. It is only a 5 minute drive from the center of Ubud.
The villa: This stately river rock-faced villa is a combination of open-air Balinese and Dutch Colonial with a wrap around veranda, garden with 9x3 saltwater pool, and a renovated traditional Balinese lumbong. The Balinese Lumbong (rice barn) up high in the trees with a charming bedroom with queen sized bed, overlooks the pool and breathtaking views of the jungle and rice paddys. Underneath the Lumbong is a open air kitchenette and lounge area and a lovely open to the sky garden bathroom. The lounge bale can double as additional bed as it has mosquito netting and bamboo shades that can be lowered around the lower bale for privacy.
The villa is well built and features old wood doors, wood framed windows, rock facing, and tile floors throughout. There are carved Balinese statues throughout the garden, and the beds are made of antique Javanese wood.
The kitchen: The just-renovated kitchen is large with a walk in pantry and includes use of a Vitamix blender, a juicer and dehydrator, and barbeque grill. Not to mention a full size refrigerator with freezer, cook top stove, and all other amenities. It is partially open to the jungle and a small courtyard, and the dining room is on a lowered section of the veranda just off the kitchen with jungle views.
Bedrooms: The downstairs floor of the main villa consists of a large air conditioned bedroom with TV (for movies), cushions, and desk and chair. The bed is queen sized and is a traditional hand carved Javanese 4-poster bed with mosquito net - this bed can be used as a couch and the entire downstairs used as an indoor salon if not needed as a bedroom. Walk right out of the sliding glass doors onto the veranda. The adjoining bathroom is very large and features lava rock walls, a large circular open shower, a terrazzo tub, and sink area.
The upstairs bedroom room has a separate entrance, is also large, with high ceilings and open air rice paddy. Enjoy the jungle and rice paddys from the balcony. In addition to the queen sized hand carved teak bed, the upstairs bedroom has a reading area and a lovely wood desk. There is an adjoining bathroom with sink and a terrazo shower/bath combo.
The traditional, just renovated! - Balinese lumbung bedroom has a queen bed up in the trees and its own kitchenette below, garden bathroom, and additional sleeping bale below. It is just a few steps from the pool and has lovely views of the rice paddies and jungle.
This is a 3-bedroom villa including the bedroom in the Lumbong. As mentioned before the lower section of the lumbong can be used as an optional 4th bedroom for larger groups. We also have extra mattresses that can be used in the large bedrooms of the main house. This house is most comfortable for 3 singles or 3 couples, but can sleep up to 8.
Salon: The common living area is on the covered, wrap-around porch, surrounded by the audio and visual delights of the jungle, butterflies flitting in and out, squirrels scampering up coconut trees, and more. There are several seating areas on the long L-shaped veranda and a fish pond with koi at one end.
Laundry room: There is a small laundry room containing a washing machine and dryer which you may use.
Setting: The best part is this villa is its setting on the edge of the jungle with rice paddys on either side, and the jungle to the west, where you can watch wildlife from the comfort a large covered porch. And all within a 5 min drive of town.
The Bali Buddha Villa is the perfect combination of modern and open air Balinese with lush tropical garden. It is a partially open style and I strive to keep it an eco conscious villa with ceiling fans throughout and open windows to provide natural cooling. There is A.C. in the downstairs bedroom for those who must have it. The wrap around covered porch (also with ceiling fans) helps the villa to stay cool and shaded.
In addition: There is a landline telephone and Wifi/Internet.
Pool: Refreshingly free of most chemicals as it is a salt water pool on the edge of the jungle. 9 X 3 meters.
Staff: 'Made' my house angel, comes for 5 hours per day, six days a week to prepare breakfast and clean. She can also help with shopping, laundry and cooking for a small additional fee that I let her negotiate with you. She speaks English and can help you with your every need including ordering restaurant delivery, drivers, tour guides, car rentals, mobile phone sim cards, etc.
There is a gardener who comes 3 times a week to keep the garden gorgeous. He is quiet and usually comes and goes without notice early in the morning.
We have several wonderful drivers at your disposal. They all speak English and are incredibly helpful and very reasonably priced.
Property Management Company: There is a property management company in town who can help with anything that can’t be handled by the onsite staff.
Transportation and tours: Airport pickup and drop off can be arranged for approximately $30 each way as well as shuttles into town. We can also provide you with driver/guides for any trips you may wish to take to other parts of the island. If you would like to have a driver on call, this can be arranged for a reasonable fee.
Scooter rental (highly recommended!) is $5 per day. Auto rental about $25 per day. Car rental + driver averages about $25 half day, $50 full day, and about $3 per trip into town.
The listed rate of $240 per night is for up to 4 guests. Each additional guest is $20 more per night.

See you at the Bali Buddha Villa in Ubud, Bali! This villa has amazing energy that I have not found anywhere else in Ubud!
I am a travel writer who writes about the nomadic community of expats and about the things that connect us wherever we live on the globe. I have a company called Oneworld ltd in Turkey that is a vacation rental business. This home in Ubud, Bali is my personal home which I rent out when I am in the States visiting family or in Turkey working. It is a large home with separate entrances, so I sometimes rent out the downstairs and/or Lumbong separately when I am here.
I love Bali and I cherish the peaceful beautiful vibe that is my home here, and I am certain you will too.
Robin Sparks purchased this villa in 2010
I chose this neighborhood because it is the perfect combination of what I seek in a home abroad. Near town and authentic ( not a McMansion or concrete condo plopped in the rice paddies as so many new villas sadly are!), central location, jungle and rice paddy setting, and living that combines the indoors and the outdoors with beautiful views. There is amazing energy here!
It stays cool due to its location and the wrap around porch.
Mostly though I love this house for its serene, off-the-road setting, and easy access to Ubud. The salt water pool is wonderful and the garden lush.
A saltwater pool and eco friendly home. 'Made' can make delicious fresh healthy juices and food. Fresh juices and/or smoothies or bowl of fresh fruit with muesli each morning if you like. Lunches, dinners, and/or picnics can also be arranged with Made.
We've just added A.C. to the downstairs bedroom, altho with ceiling fans and shady verandah, it is rarely needed.
Beauty beyond belief combined with easy access to central Ubud, just 5 min drive away.
So glad we decided Not to stay in a hotel -I live in a house full of Buddhas and persian carpets etc so feel completely at home here! When I got here I was actually overwhelmed by how beautiful the villa and surrounds are I had tears in my eyes! All has been wonderful we love your villa- exquisite -and everyone has looked after us so well. - Michelle Cleary
We just stayed at Robin's villa for 5 days. It was absolutely wonderful. We were a party of three, me, my husband and our 15 year old son. The pool is great, clean and cool. The villa is on the edge of a river valley forest, great for bird watching. The entrance to the villa is surrounded by rice paddies. The grounds are exceptional, many places to sit, relax, and deflate from stress. There is one room with air conditioning, which worked for us as the second bedroom was cool at night. We rented scooters, if you want to eat in Ubud you need transportation or its a pretty long walk. You could do it by bicycle. Wayan the driver and manager really helped us out by being an exceptional driver, very knowledgeable and friendly. Made the villa keeper is super nice and cooks really nice meals. We loved this villa's staff. We usually spend more on villas but this one is a true gem especially for the price. Highly recommended.
For our belated honeymoon, my wife and I just finished a 3 week stay at Robin's beautiful villa just outside of Ubud. A short ride to town, but seemingly miles away from the great shopping, fabulous restaurants and numerous activities that abound there. The grounds are wonderful and very well kept, and the pool is so inviting and in total privacy. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious, clean and beautifully furnished. The housekeeper Made, was a delight. Very sweet, pleasant, polite and efficient. She made breakfast for us every morning and it was delicious. I would recommend Robin's villa to everyone !
I just spent three of the most glorious weeks of my life at Robin's villa. The villa is an expression of the beauty and sacredness of Bali. You walk through a rice paddy field to get to the villa, which is right at the edge of the jungle. The villa itself is surrounded by an outer wall, giving you complete privacy. The private swimming pool is the perfect antidote to the hot afternoons. The close proximity to Ubud (an 8 minute scooter ride) gives you access to great shops, restaurants, yoga, and healing modalities. The staff is wonderful. I wish I had stayed longer, but I'll be back!
Robin Sparks has created a beautiful and quiet Villa in the lush jungle of Ubud, also with stunning rice patty views. Her staff takes care of many needs, including picking us up from the airport, taking us all around town; her housekeeper makes delicious fresh juices, beautiful breakfasts, and has done our laundry impeccably. This villa, with a beautiful pool and lovely Balinese details, makes you want to stay here and relax to your hearts content. Then, all the activities in Ubud and surrounding areas are close. Whether you rent a scooter or use her wonderful driver, this place will be a haven for your trip to Bali! We highly recommend it!
My stay at Bali Buddha was incredible. The town of Ubud was a delight, so full of love, excitement, and passion. The hustle and bustle only invigorated and energized my whole experience. THe Villa is just lovely. The pool, the rooms, and all the accommodations. It is a little blissful hideaway that is secluded and private. But it gives you the real Bali feel and experience. Made, our cook, cleaner and overall angel was so beautiful and generous. She took care of anything we needed, with a smile and a joyous laugh. Getting to know her was one of my favorite and most influential part of my time there. I would recommend staying here to anyone and everyone.
Set back from the main road, this villa feels like home, complete with cat, traditional furnishings, artworks and even musical instruments. We loved the outdoor bathroom and I really appreciated the various, fresh flower arrangements around the villa, all using plants from the garden. Great views from the upstairs bedroom balconies and plenty of flexibility in terms of number of guests and space, given the option to make use, or not, of the Lumbong. The 2 main bedrooms are large enough that an extra single mattress can be laid out on the floor if needed. It is a perfect location to enjoy the tranquillity Bali is so famous for, yet only a 5 minute ride to the centre of town and all the attractions Ubud has to offer. We watched the farmers planting rice right outside the villa and were able to enjoy ceremonial processions passing by en route to the temple. On our arrival, it was lovely to be greeted by Made and a tray of homemade ginger drinks - refreshing and delicious, and served with straws made of bamboo. Within no time at all motorbikes were organised on our behalf and we able to set off and explore! Hope very much to return one day.
Very close to Ubud (2 km), and just far away enough and off the road on the jungle's edge to provide a peaceful, paradise-like setting. There is a Japanese cafe and an Indonesian (with international food too) about 5 minutes walk, a coffee shop even closer, and numerous restaurants a 5 min drive up the street.
This house is on the same street where all the village's main evening traditional Balinese performances are held and on the same street as Ubud's main palace. Best to rent a scooter or car for easy access into town, and bicycles can also be rented - or we can arrange a driver of either a car, and/or motorcycle taxi to be on call for you. Note that Ubud is not much of a walking town and there are no walking or bicycle lanes. There are however, numerous paths through the rice paddys near the house but they are mostly for ambience and pleasure as opposed to actually getting into town.
We provide a list of drivers, massage places (even one who will come to the house), guides, restaurants that deliver, and much more. My house manager can help you with all your desires...rice paddy walks, tour guides to take you anywhere, car and scooter rental... She is there 5 hrs per day to prepare breakfast, clean and can be hired to also cook additional meals and do laundry at very reasonable rates.
