My husband, young son and I thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay in one of Martine’s studios. Martine was responsive via email and quickly confirmed the arrangement telling us everything we needed to know on the apartment. Martine works with a husband&wife team who live at Mont Vernon and act as onsite contact. They were around the property often so if anything was needed they were easy to contact. The wife was very helpful in showing us how to drive down to the entrance to our building (careful driving skills required) so we could unload luggage/groceries closer to the unit. That was a big help. Mont Vernon is on hilltop–hence the beautiful views–but honestly the walks were not as steep as some other reviews would indicate. Not flat–but not vertical either.
The studio’s location is fantastic–right on arguably the best beach in St Martin. Within two minutes pleasant walk our toes were in the sand. If we wanted a quiet day within reach of apartment and pool, we stayed at that end of the beach. For water sports or beach bars we walked down the beach. The pool is lovely and quiet. Although some chaise cushions were weathered, overall the area was quite clean.
The apartment’s view was superb, looking directly onto the ocean and length of Orient Bay to the South, with St Barth visible in the distance. If all we did that week was sit on the comfortable balcony and gaze out – the vacation would have been worth it!
The studio was very clean and newly renovated with a vibrant blue scheme. The quality linens were European, and kitchen, with new LG appliances, was fully fitted out with every utensil, pot, pan and serving dish that one would need. We cooked for ourselves quite often, shopping at well-stocked markets down the street. Refrigerator/freezer were normal size (not minibar size) so it was possible to store enough for our needs. The small boulangerie down the hill baked yummy croissants and baguettes.
The bathroom was spacious with lots of counter space and a washing machine–a real convenience. The shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water-even when we all showered in succession post-beach.
The reception buildings (used now to house the postboxes and resident cars) are quite weathered from the elements. That shouldn’t discourage you as the plusses of this place far outweigh the worn look of the reception building.
