WATERFRONT MID-CENTURY MODERN GEM SURROUNDED BY FOREVER WILD LAND.

Woodstock House Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, accessible by private bridge, water and woodland setting

Bridge House is a true gem of mid-century modern styling. If Don Draper had a Catskill getaway, this would be it. Furnished with iconic pieces by Charles Eames, Jens Risom, Paul McCobb, & George Nelson-this recently remodeled atomic ranch has clean lines, and an open floor plan. The updated kitchen, bath and exterior deck were designed by award-winning architect Barry Price, and bring the house firmly into present day, without sacrificing the cool original mid-century details. The rosewood wall paneling, oak parquet floors, ultra-hip light valances, and floor to ceiling windows are all still there – but with energy efficient glass and swanky new European sliders. Load the iPod with Frank, Dean, and Sammy, crush some ice for the martinis, kick back and relax.

Accessible only by private bridge, Bridge House is perched above the waters of Little Beaver Kill Stream which will gently wake you in the morning and lull you to sleep at night with its soothing murmur. The floor to ceiling windows in the living room bring the landscape indoors, where the play of light, woods and water combine so the house seems to ride along the currents of the stream.

In summer, take advantage of the cantilevered deck for an above-the-stream dinner. In winter, snuggle in comfy chairs by the generous stone fireplace while the snow settles on rocks and boulders below. In spring ferns and mosses surrounding the house unfurl their shoots, creating a blanket of variegated green. In autumn, crunch your way through drifts of ochre, persimmon and henna leaves. There will be a lot of them, because Bridge House is surrounded by hundreds of acres of forever-wild lands. Want to take a hike? Just step out the back door. Don’t be surprised if you see deer, raccoons, rabbits, groundhogs, and birds-a-plenty! Heron, ducks, kestrels all are frequent visitors to the waters’ edge.

Private, but not remote, Bridge House is short drive from Woodstock’s center and a shorter drive still from Phoenicia, recently named one of the 10 best small towns in America. It is also within walking distance of the NYC bus line, so you don't have to have a car. Tell the driver to drop you off at Grogkill Road.

Peaceful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful holiday weekend at Bridge House! Although the property is right off of route 212, it is incredibly quiet and really does make you feel like you're "getting away." The description on Homeaway was spot on -- the newly renovated kitchen was beautiful and had everything you could need to cook a gourmet meal; the main bathroom was lovely and had a fabulous shower (great water pressure); and the master bedroom was cozy and had a view of stream.

Raye, the property manager, was a huge help -- she provided us with detailed driving directions (cell phone service drops off after awhile, but she gave us several landmarks and even provided us with a map); emailed us to check in when we arrived; gave us a list of several things to do and places to eat; and promptly refunded our security deposit after we departed.

All in all, we had a fantastic stay and would definitely come back the next time we're in Woodstock!

Lovely and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I recently spent a week in May at the Bridge House. A lovely, peaceful setting - the perfect place to rest, relax, read, listen to music, or the sound of the rippling Beaverkill. We strolled the small towns along the Hudson, never tiring of the beautiful views or the history of the area. Thank you Vicki and Eric, we'll be back. Barbara and Roy; Ramona, California

Magical and wondrous!

  • 5 of 5
My boyfriend and I made a last-minute decision to escape New York for a few days. Brant is wild about all things mid-modern, so when he saw this listing he was a goner. The house is absolutely magical. You cross that bridge and enter this sort of nature wonderland. I fully expected to see wood nymphs frolicking on the hillside among the moss and ferns each morning. The sound of the stream rushing by outside the windows was so utterly soothing. We had all these plans about hikes we were going to take, things we were going to do, but found ourselves so mesmerized by the stream, we essentially became one with various pieces of furniture. Just reading, relaxing, and watching the clouds and the light and the water. The study has to be the most amazing room ever. It was a little too cold for swimming in the stream, but we're already plotting our return in August. My big plans are swimming followed by roasting on this one big boulder that's in the middle of the stream. That rock has my name on it! Thank you again, Vicky & Eric for making this home available to us.
