Philo Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Detached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-4)

Welcome to Wild Iris Retreat. If you’re looking for a quiet place to relax and unwind then you’ve found the right vacation rental. We are a 300-acre working farm with a focus on organic and sustainable living- located just one mile off of Highway 128. Here you will find acres of vineyards and whimsical gardens nestled among rolling hills and secluded by the beautiful Redwood trees of Northern California.

Upon arrival you will find a welcome package with a bottle of our very own organic wine, organic granola, yogurt, coffee and half and half along with a basket of in-season fruits and freshly cut vegetables waiting for you.

Once here spend your days relaxing by our large saline swimming pool, walking our nature trails, exploring botanical gardens or wine tasting at the many prestigious wineries just minutes from our driveway. The retreat also sits on a full mile of river front property where the confluence of two creeks has created a number of hidden swimming holes.

Our cottage sits next to botanical gardens and is just a few yards away from the pool. 'Garden Cottage' is equipped with a full kitchen, living room, woodstove, dining area (with a dining room table for six), bedroom and full bath. We have room for additional guests in the cottage. Ask for details.

Our retreat is an ideal choice for families, friends and couples. We have special discounts from time to time, call or email us today!

My wife and I purchased this property over ten years ago. We fell in love with the beauty of the land and the relaxing qualities it holds. We began farming that same year and we now raise sheep and chickens as well as grow a variety of fruits and vegetables.

We look forward to sharing this special place with you. -The Wentzel's

I am not exaggerating by calling this place paradise. We spent the most fabulous 5 days here. I highly, highly recommend it! I cannot wait to come back in the summer and enjoy the beautiful pool.

Over the Top Family Vacation

The setting at Wild Iris was breath-taking - beautiful vistas, hidden meadows, stunning scenery both wild and cultivated. Because much of the fruit was ripe it was like walking into the Garden of Eden, picking and eating as we went - plums, peaches, berries. The accommodations are quaint, shabby-chic cottage with pretty much everything one needs to get along for a few days. Roland was helpful with directions and suggestions and a refill on the fabulous granola. We enjoyed the grounds and the nearby villages during our stay but chose to do our own cooking, sometimes using the fresh-picked produce. Wonderful location - hope to return again someday.

Amazing

This property is hands down the best rental we have stayed at on VRBO. The grounds are immaculately kept and offer a great deal of activities within the 300 acres. The cottage was very clean, furniture was higher end, and organized well. Fire wood was provided to keep the cottage warm at night in the fire place and made for a very romantic setting.

Do not expect to come here to watch tv and get wi-fi, this is a property to unwind and be in the wilderness, there is cell service (ATT & Verizon). However, this location is close to (<5miles) the Anderson Valley Brewery and at least 10 wineries. There are sheep, deer, and turkey roaming the property and redwoods right outside your cottage door. Take a hike across the property to the river and go for a private swim. The pool is an oasis that we enjoyed on a hot day while just relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet.

I have already recommended the property to other co-workers, we are planning a return trip with family, and I would highly recommend it to other travelers. It would also be an amazing location for an intimate wedding.

A lovely experience

We spent more than a week with our grandson in the Garden Cottage. The grounds are lovely, landscaping is fabulous, cottage is charming and well maintained. The pool and the "frog" pond were our grandson's main preoccupation but we spent an afternoon on the river exploring and swimming in total privacy. There is so much wildlife and sheep sometimes wander through. It is a place for those wanting to get away from high tech, which we prefer although we went in to town daily to check our e'mail. We certainly hope to return and highly recommend this property for those who love gardens and nature and quiet.

Beautiful

I was surprised to find all the manicured lawns and gardens hidden up in the hills. My wife and kids enjoyed the pool and the gardens and the river. I enjoyed the jacuzzi and the hammocks by the pool. Reading a book on the deck was very relaxing. My wife enjoyed the local organic farms and vineyards. I went to the Anderson Valley Brewery (short drive away) and had a tour (free, twice a day) and you get free samples.

Answers to the questions from the "Review Tips and Guidelines:"
The location is accurate. It is off the main road and very quiet.
The listing photos are accurate. They should have a pic of the jacuzzi. The river is a short hike away for adults, or a 5 min drive since our kids are little and I know I'd end up carrying them.
Property was clean and well maintained. That leather chair is great.
The owner was great, and runs the vineyard, and knows a ton. The young lady that manages the property is very friendly and helpful.
Yes I would recommend it to friends.
I would recommend touring the brewery. They also have a tasting room (bar) that is much larger and nicer than I expected. There is a restaurant in the hotel in Boonville that serves oysters. There is a good Mexican restaurant in Philo. I liked having the BBQ and the kitchen so we could just relax and stay there.
