About Robert Bednar

We live and work in Austin, Texas. We are both graduates of the University of Texas who stayed and made this city our home. We are raising two amazing kids and two big dogs, and we all love to explore the outdoors.

Robert Bednar purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Robert Bednar chose Bastrop

We bought this little cabin as a place to escape the noise of the city without having to travel far. Over the past few years, the cabin has become a second home to our family and we have put a lot of love and care into the place. We have traveled all over the country and various parts of the world but always find our hearts pulled back to the simplicity and peace of a quiet spot in the woods. We welcome you to share our place and hope you will enjoy it, too.

What makes this cabin unique

We knew this was the place for us as we pulled into the driveway and saw the towering pines and oaks that enveloped us and transported us to another place. Fortunately, the fires of 2012 missed our property and we only lost a few of our grand old pines in that summer's drought. Those losses, and the losses at nearby Bastrop State Park, inspired us to renew our little piece of the forest by planting and nurturing hundreds of baby pines and oaks. Come visit the trees and stay for a while.

This was a wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED the Little Yellow Cabin!! All of the little touches made the place feel so so cozy & comfy! We loved the sounds and smells of nature and all there was to do on the property. The adult tree house was really neat and there was a small clearing near the house that was perfect for stargazing. The only downfall of the rental was the smell of the water from the faucets and the shower. The owners provide spring water for drinking, but taking a shower and washing hands was an issue. Other than that, the experience was AMAZING!

Peaceful Cabin - No surprises!!

  • 5 of 5

Peace and tranquility - that's what we were in hopes of when we reserved the cabin from Robert...That's exactly what we got!! We truly enjoyed our time at the cabin, and visiting Bastrop and Smithville. The wildlife and birds provided a quiet entertainment for our leisurely mornings. We loved watching the rabbits and squirrels.., and the hummingbirds taking their share of the honeysuckle. Everything is exactly as pictured - there were no surprises! Our 9 yr old rat terrier even felt at home here. The entire place was clean & easy to get to love...we'll definitely be telling others that are looking for a quiet retreat! As a note to anyone visiting the area - Maxine's on Main & PawPaw's Catfish House are well worth the short drive into Bastrop & Bassano Del Grappa Italian Restaurant was a pleasant surprise in this small town, offering fine Italian food, and although we didn't try it, apparently makes really good pizzas, as we saw many locals coming in to pick up pizzas while we waited to be seated. All in all, we had a great experience and would welcome the chance to return.

One of a kind stay!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay here. This was our first time to get a cabin and this was everything we expected and some. If you are looking for a quiet place to get away from it all, this Little Yellow Cabin is perfect for it. The cabin does show up on GPS which made it easy to find. Austin is also not too far from it which allowed us to visit it while on this trip.

“Not for the Faint of Heart”

  • 5 of 5

Potential guests beware. If you are not fully prepared to have a magical experience, don’t stay here. There are a dozen different places to sit and relax, climb, nap, cook, and play. That’s only the stuff outside! We couldn’t be happier with our decision to stay at the Bednars’ getaway. The kitchen is more than adequate and the knives are even sharp (A pet peeve for this wannabe chef)! The bed is so comfy and even though we had no overnight use for the futon, it was super plush too.

Saturday night a huge storm rolled in so we relaxed on the screened-in porch, played guitar and sang over the rain. It was truly magical. We will most certainly come back. I wish we could make it a once a month event; a way to recharge the batteries…

From the hubs: “I loved the "Come and Stay" appeal of the place. It is laid out for a couple to rent, and then entertain other friends, as all have a relaxing day in the country. Each seating area beckons for friends and family to sit, have a cool drink, and chat.

The are many activities for the kids as well. From exploring the wooded grounds, to catching frogs around the pond, climbing in the tree house, and lawn games for outside fun. Then there's a ton of board games and fun inside stuff for them as well. And the Bednar's place is pet friendly too!”

We own a vacation rental in Austin, TX and know what it takes to make a place feel homey and welcoming. The Bednars’ have inspired us to up our game! Good Job!

Slice of heaven in Paige, TX

  • 5 of 5

Private retreat to let go of the daily grind. Drinking coffee on the patio in rocking chairs, napping in the hammocks, courtyard cafe lights add a special ambience of an outdoor party. Safe area with the coolest fort /tree house for kids. Good antique shopping close by. thanks for sharing your great cabin with us.

Great Getaway

The cabin was wonderful and better than expected. Completely secluded and alone on private property, you could not ask for a better getaway. It was the perfect weekend of reflection and inspiration.
